You are probably right but I don't get how poking fun at him is acceptable.I think everyone on this site would wish him well and hope that he will feel fit enough to fly again in the future. -
No not me thankfully I would not find this event funny.
For those who think this is funny-
Forced landing not funny
Inverted hanging in the seat belt not funny
Release seat belt exit plane without breaking neck not funny
Head injury not funny
Wrecked plane not funny
Pilot shock and trauma not funny
I just don't see the funny side to this.

Yeah you are legend in your own mind and you know nothing about me.Or it could be that some of us have led more adventurous lives? I have crashed race cars, rally cars, skateboards, bicycles, dirtbikes, skiing, fallen out of trees, boxed, and shared all these experiences with other Australians who have been through similar, whom I have rarely found to not have a laugh about the experiences.- 1

Not sure how some think this accident is a joking matter.

This appears to be a in flight break up not caused by hitting trees the wing was found 400 metres away.Tends to happen when you hit trees. -
How could they land after the wing came off?Having travelled Gunn Point road quite a bit , its a wide dirt road So something has seriously gone amiss to prevent landing on it or was it dark at the time ? -
Just saw it on the news looked as flat as it could get and not boggy or wet either. Completely ideal for a out landing how ever they said it spiraled in from 800 metres and no motor noise. As we have no idea what happened best to wait for the ATSB report. And the colour and texture majes them look flat- 4

You can correct someone without calling them ignorant and BS.Ordinarily, I would not be bothered to react to the adverse posts on here to my comments, it's not worth the time or effort. However, in this particular case, I find the uninformed supposition on what is as yet an unexplained accident to be worse than unhelpful. As it happens, one of my family is a member of DDSC; and as it happens, the now widow of the Instructor was one of his students many years ago when he was an Instructor at Bathurst. He last talked to both the Instructor and his wife last week at the DDSC AGM, and his opinion of the Instructor corresponds exactly with Mike Borgelt's opinion expressed in post #8 of this thread.
As it also happens, I have landed a glider in a situation of extreme medical incapacitation. Due to influenza and dehydration, I experienced an almost total physical collapse at about 2K feet AGL, just after release from the tug. I had not intended to fly that day but was asked by the CFI to move his personal racing glider ( a Hornet, and then current holder of the World record for a 500K triangle speed at the time), to the cross-strip at Narromine due to a 90-degree wind change. It was already hitched to the tug, it seemed the easy thing to do..
I cannot remember anything after turning final, until someone was pressing their fingers on my neck and shouting 'He's alive, I can feel a pulse'. As far as I am concerned, it basically landed itself due to correct setting of the trim at the FUST check.
You fly MOST gliders (I cannot speak of personal experience for an ASK21) with your hand on your right knee and two fingers and your thumb on the stick. You do NOT have a 'death grip' on the stick that would force it into an extreme change of pitch even in a case of muscular spasm.
This is a very, very sad event and the circumstances have yet to be revealed. Vicious defence of wild theories coming from a base of no knowledge of gliders, gliding, or glider pilot training does not help anybody's appreciation of actually what happened.

What ever.

Pity to see a crash on what looks like a good place for a emergency landing.

Yeah he might be however there are different ways of saying things. I thought he said it was inverted.

It is posts like this that put people off using these forums.More BS. In a glider, you establish FUST ( Flaps, Undercart, Speed, Trim) on downwind and you don't set them up for diving inverted into the ground. You modify your circuit height and speed by the use of the brakes and sideslipping.- 4

The aileron can cause the wing to twist near the tip which reverses the effect of the aileron. The mod is a tube between the rear and front spars held in place by a formed wrap around sheet aluminum piece at each end. This stiffens the wing and prevents the twisting effect.

You need the wing mod I will go into more detail tomorrow.Good day, can anyone tell me if they have ever rebuilt the wings on a chinook w t-11 single. Iam looking at buying a chinook this week. Has 384 hours always hangered but was built in 1983, was first chinook on floats by the factory owner. The second owner has had it since 1984 and it is mint condition. A challenger pilot told me to watch out as wing leading edge will warp close to VNE. Has anyone added extra bracing to a chinook wing or rebuilt with new aluminum. Any info would be greatly appreciated from someone whos had one of these. Regards Lobster Bob, Canada -
I have survived a lot of engine failures and not been hurt I believe because I practice glide approaches and avoid places where you cannot do a emergency landing.

Woops sorry about the repeats.

On the news they said the pilot was an instructor. It looked like they had an engine failure on take off and went straight ahead. If that is correct then congratulations to the pilot she made the best out of a bad situation and probably saved two lives.

Their is a lot of hysteria about drones on ch 7 there was a program The battle for Mosul where they claimed quads were dropping bombs on people. The producers clearly had no idea about the the subject they showed a dji phantom with a 'steel bomb it could never lift. Not to mention how difficult it would be to know when you are over the target.

If you need it I can give you the name and number of the person at Gympie who builds them.
