  1. Sorry Jim, missed your post Haven't found a local auto shop that has them in stock but am going to try a local place which I overlooked "Gladstone Air Filters" tomorrow as I'm a little doubtful the one I ordered will get here as quick as they said it would. If they've got one I'll just keep the other for my spare ea81 (currently turbo'd and in need of a rebuild) Ebay has a few different shops that sell them - here's a couple of places - the first is where I bought it. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321316434586?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BB-0011-UNIVERSAL-POLISHED-OIL-SANDWICH-PLATE-COOLER-ADAPTER-KIT-/221305868708?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3386db91a4 Just do a search for universal cooler adapter on google.
  2. oops my apologise the box is a 2.21:1
  3. Yes I agree that 5600 rpm is a little to high. ASI indicated 60 knots on climb out - a little too slow and steep I think. The pilot said that he lowered the nose at around 1,000 ft but I think he should have dropped the revs after getting in the air adjusting to maybe 5,000 for the climb and climbed out at 70/75 knots. By the time he reached 1500 ft it had reached 265 F and didn't want to come back down on the downwind leg - 4000 rpm / 85 knots. A courser prop would help to lower the revs and decrease the climb angle a bit - he was at 1000ft at the end of the Gladstone strip which is about 6000 ft long. Not sure how much courser a 3 bladed Warp Drive can go to and remain efficient - its through a 2.1:1 box and has 14.5 degrees at the tips now. Ive got a universal sandwich adapter coming and will try and get it test flown again in the next couple of days.
  4. Yep .... ordered one first thing this morning !!
  5. Test flying a fuel injected ea81 running electronic ignition in my Jodel D18 and my oil temp today reached 260 Deg F on climb out. Water was only around the 190 Deg F mark. Engine did 5600 rpm with a 2.1:1 reduction box and 14 degrees on a 70inch warp drive prop. Flew beautifully except for the oil temp that didnt seem to want to come down after climbing to 1500 ft. I've got a nice little oil cooler off a 3300 Jabiru engine but I haven't got a clue on where the best place is for pickup and return lines from the motor? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Geoff
  6. Lets face it! I have an ipad and I have paper charts. The ipad is an excellent backup for the paper chart! To which I might add - I've never had to charge a paper chart and it has never let me down when I most need it! Even if you use an ipad you still have to have your chart with trip info up to date don't you!!
  7. Jabba, these are aircraft that live at Gladstone - not passing through. They live here! I think you've missed the point I'm trying to make here these people are paying hangar fees or yearly parking fees. This is THEIR airport. Up until now even itinerant aircraft below 2000kg havent had to pay a landing fee!(including GA aircraft). Now, all aircraft have to! Having come from a managerial background I can understand the way your thinking. It always amazes me that once a council becomes incorporated they think that they have to make a profit out of their rate payers!!! All of a sudden we work for them whereas they once worked for us!!
  8. One fella got his bill that had 4 landing on the one day stating "Training" on it ...... he's a bit disappointed he missed out on the flying, as he was at home that day and there must have been a gremlin flying it! Frank, I can only find the 2011-2012 fees on their web page??
  9. Apparently from discussion with the aerodrome office, yes. All landings will incur a landing fee.
  10. Yenn the only reason they upgraded and lengthened was for the Gas companies fly in fly out .... why should we have to pay for their upgrade!! Bundaberg just had a big extension and they didn't place additional costs on the little man. Next year after the construction is finished they expect the rpt traffic to drop to 40% of what it is atm. Fuel at Old Station was cheaper than Gladstone last time I looked ...
  11. New rules for Gladstone Airport are definitely not good. All aircraft - no matter what size or registration now have to pay landing fees! For us little folk that fly ultralights the fee is $10 plus GST. This also applies to the owners of Hangars and aircraft that have paid the yearly parking fee. I'm led to believe that this is the only airport/airstrip in Australia that have these tough landing fees.
  12. Just found this thread .... I'm unregistered now so it seems ... S h i t ... 37 pages to browse through people!!!!!! I've got to ask the question - WTF is going on!!!
  13. Hey, forgot it's a version 4 Wolf computer. I've got the software but not the know how to get it just right. I had it tuned in Brissy - put it onto a gyro and trailer to get it there - problem is the exhausts are shorter than the ones we tuned on it and it's running like crap with the shorter ones.
  14. Hi, Can any one or does anyone know of an individual in Central Queensland I can get to tune my Fuel Injected ea81. I'm in Gladstone and the car places really arent any help at all - excuses range from "Fuck, its an aeroplane" to one shop getting really rude and looking like he wanted to throw me out on my but! I can get this done in Brissy but thats a long way away and I really need it tuned to get it there
  15. Update .... Couldn't get a JPI 450 to suit a fuel injected ea81 because of the return line back from the rail to the tank. I dont know much about the fuel injected aviation motors but they must not have a return line I'm guessing ...
  16. so are we in the rise or decline? ... never mind I already know :)
  17. hey fancy meetin u here fella So as I said no one wants to tell me about em and realise you bought this for your machine - do the two transducers come or did u buy seperately ?? Will try to call you tonight at work ....
  18. I've been bouncing emails to JPI for a week now and even queried a few local suppliers and still I'm no closer to an answer :DirtDOG: I'm running from 2 tanks - front and back through a FS2020 Duplex Fuel Selector. Can some one enlighten me as to whether the J.P.I Fuel Scan™ 450 will do fuel injected systems? And if it can't then an alternative please ..........
  19. Bones .... few hours before I get up there mate  but I'll get there ... how are the xenons coming along? Yenn ..... I appreciate your time and effort very much. I was more worried about you than the plane - the plane can be replaced mate! You could be right about the boots and the brakes. Look forward to seeing your rv4 geoff
  20. Nev, The plane has a Matco 6" tailwheel assembly set up as it should be - no jamming here. Before Yenn went out I did stipulate not to try doing fast ground runs and to keep the stick back and the tail wheel grounded. This was what I had been told by people that knew Jodels and their apparent bad ground handling characteristics. I put the whole episode down to bad preparation before the test run. The consequent test flight was fine as far as ground handling went on take off and landing. I did ask the pilot about the ground handling to which he stated that the ground handling was fine. Geoff
  21. Hi all .... bit late but adding to what's already been said. Without changing anything on the plane, it was successfully test flown without any ground problems at at all on take off or landing. Having said that the test pilot was a very very experienced tail dragger pilot. Toe in Toe out - from memory the jodel plans advise this be nil - I should look again but during construction the tow in/out was as per the plans instructed. I haven't done anything with the plane since that test flight - simply been to busy with work and family, but have got back into it this year and I'll be continuing and hopefully completing very soon. I'll keep you posted on the ground handling - as I don't have as many hours as Yenn - but I have a couple of very good tail dragger pilots now to pass on their knowledge .... Cheers Geoff
  22. Out of interest ...... ASRA are charging $10 a year for gyrocopter registration .... twin and single seater's alike .... they have a lot less members ... provide the same 3rd party within licence renewals ($170PA) .... have nearly the same rules of the air ..... ASRA do not pay wages - all of their offices are volunteer positions ! not for one moment am I suggesting that this would work with RAAus .... I'm fairly certain these figures are correct but may have changed slightly since I last looked. rotor

    Hi

Hi everyone, I'm currently building a Jodel D18 and hope to have her flying in the next couple of months. I haven't started instruction as yet but have a gyro licence and a few hours up in them. Plan to have the Jodel finished in the next couple of months and am planning to head down to Gatton to undertake a bit of training in May. Here's a pic of the Jodel D18 "Sovereign" rotor
