Flew today to the wonderful city of Ararat to enjoy their roadhouse culinary delights!
It was great fun, and I got to share the experience with my student pilot friend Shane. It was sooooo much cooler than driving.
Next, on to Tooradin!

Great work!I'm hoping to do mine soon, so I'll look at your blog with a "could I have done that?" interest.
Thanks Chris and Eighty, you'll get there!! I haven't had a chance to exercise my new qualification, but the idea of being able to blast off into the sky and end up in another far away place is pretty exciting!Well done ::Evan:: ...now you can fly your supersonic Jabiru and Tecnam all over Australia. The write up was really good. That stage is still ahead of me.
Thanks Neil. The question is now: Where will I go?Hey Evan,Well done, mate! Class G is now your oyster! Enjoy....Cheers

Yep, as of yesterday afternoon I'm no longer shackled to the 25 NM circle! It took close to three hours of flying, but I passed my Nav flight test! There was a bit of everything thrown in - good weather, bad weather, strong winds, diversions and some crosswind landings. All in a days' flying!

Thanks everyone. That helps a lot.
I won't be flying it any time in the very near future, but eventually it would be a nice efficient way to get through to Tyabb, Tooradin and Latrobe Valley!

Somewhat jealous right about now!
Today, I just had to put up with watching the departing aircraft from Coldstream Airport into a beautiful blue sky and the rolling hills of the Yarra Valley. Not as good as actually flying!

That's the area, isn't it Moz?
-
Thanks Turk. I plan to do it with someone experienced before tackling it alone.
The 2500' issue still confuses me, though.
-
I figured that they had to make some kind of limit that is safe for everyone (as per Mick's comment). 25 NM is a pretty easy number to remember.
If you were to fly out close to the edge, turn and fly around the inside of the circumference and then fly home you'd be flying over 200 NM. That sounds a little more exciting than 25 NM!

I am looking forward to flying this some day when I get my cross-country endorsement.
My question is regarding the assigned heights for this route: 1500' West to East is fine... No worries there. East to West is assigned 2500'. Wouldn't that encroach on the 2500' Class C airspace?
When is it considered 'busting' controlled airspace? 2501'?
Thanks in advance for your guidance.

I have wondered the same thing... Mostly because there are no other airports within 25 NM of my home one! I always wanted to visit that one airport 27 NM away!

Thanks Linda! I think that will be one of the first things I do after I've qualified. Can't wait!
-
Woohoo! A beautiful morning for flying here in the Goldfields!

Only one more nav to pass before x-country endorsement! Can't wait!

The 170 seems to be a little more forgiving at slow speeds. During the hold off/flare there us a nice roll off of lift (I think possibly because of the bigger wings, but also the winglets). When the 160 decides it is finished flying, and if you haven't got it nice and close to the ground - be prepared for a simulated carrier landing!
-
Thanks guys! I suspect that my instructor was secretly laughing to himself. Oh well, it gave me a real excuse to transition to best endurance mode!
-
One nav closer to that cross-country endorsement!
Went on a low level sortie, which was supposed to go to Wedderburn and St Arnaud, but we may have gotten momentarily geographically embarrassed and ended up in Charlton!
Oh well, I guess it's all part of the learning process!

Thanks Louis! Can't wait for that day!!!!!

Today I finally got to go out beyond my normal boundaries - but this time by myself!! It was a great feeling, even though it was a nav that we had done dual a week before, but it still felt great to get out and about!

Inching closer and closer to that cross country endorsement and adventures beyond!
