Thanks everyone! It's an exciting time.
@Akromaster: Cheers! The aircraft was Inbound Aviation's Jabiru J-160.
@Kyliefil: Thanks Phil! Yeah, I was amazed to see that on the GPS track I could see exactly where my correction was.
@Louis: It was great to go beyond my little local bubble. I will feel like a real pilot when I can actually go places.
The GPS tracker is on my Android phone. It is a free app called My Tracks. I'm sure there is a similar one for iOS. It was fascinating to see the actual tracks at the end - then compare it to the planned ones.
@Brian&Linda: Thanks!!! We'll be able to go places soon!

This nav was all about diversions. I planned a much larger route, but we never got to one of them because of (imaginary) bad weather.
I also had to navigate to a turning point that was a tiny little town on a flat plain. No large paved runway to identify it with this time!
Track was YBLT - Woorndoo - YARA - YBLT.
It was two and a bit hours of great fun! Next: solo nav!
Full story (if you wanna) here.

Thanks Andy, will have a look!

Andy, do you have a web link to SPOT. I can't seem to find it!

What a pity you're not in VIC! I'd jump at the chance!

What about Spidertracks? Would that be an option???

Hey Adam, I've been wondering the same thing. Still confused.....it does seem that when i try to use google etc to just try and get a straightforward idea of what is involved, it doesn't appear that any 2 sources agree. Am i going for a full-blown radio operator's license? Is there a written? Oral? I am using this as my guide: http://www.auf.asn.au/opsmanual/3-08.pdf - so I thought it was pretty cut and dried, and hence don't really understand the difficulty of getting info on it. -

I've always wondered what the advantages/disadvantages are for small turbines in light aircraft would be. Cheers Nev.

Hey techy people! I've just joined the 21st century and finally have a Twitter account.
I was wondering if anyone around these parts know of any great aviation-related Twitter accounts?
So far, I've found people like Airbus, Cessna, AOPA, Plane Crazy Podcast, Airplane Geeks, etc. (oh yeah, not to mention Aircraft Pilots!)
Are there any recreational aviation Twitter accounts?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Christine,
If you are out in the West or the North of Melbourne, you could consider Bacchus Marsh, Penfield (Sunbury) or even Ballarat. All three have various Recreational Schools on site. I can personally vouch for Inbound Aviation in Ballarat.
Cheers, Evan

Looks like fun, Tomo!

I liked the reader stories.

My instructor always opens a door and says "Clear to start...Starting!" It makes a lot of sense to me. However, I (with an open door too) still say "Clear prop"... Not even sure why I still say that, but I do. He hasn't told me off for it, though.

Heh, no. Your avatar!Spiral: You mean the communication in this thread, Evan?Could be twenty knots, could be one hundred and twenty!

I like how it's like a spiral!

My apologies Nev. I may have read a little too much into it as you were speaking to me and then to everyone within the one paragraph.
-
....And it happened just after Sport Pilot did a little feature on them!

I wouldn't put something that irritates me, nor something that would purposefully irritate anyone else. I can replace it if it offends your mathematical sensibilities, FH.I've seen the thruster one. Yours is fine too ( if almost as unlikely). I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I would rather not have something that irritates me ( and maybe others). Avatars are a personal thing. I am not much into personal imagery and a significant shift to being concerned about it is not likely.I value integrity because it's necessary, you can't buy it, and I value it in all my friends, and it is lost easily. ( Bit of thread drift there? Maybe not.) NevI value integrity. I also value a bit of a giggle every now and again. That's not a bad thing, is it?

Mine is just some silliness.
I borrowed the idea from a pic I saw with a Thruster in a similar position. It made me laugh.
It's what happens when boredom and Photo-chop meet! Also, I used it for my FarceBook avatar - some guys in an international aviation group started working out the improbable maths behind it! Nerds!
