  1. Why? ...Because it is an Order it is an EXEMPTION to the Regs so they write it that way because that's the way exemptions have always been drafted... but I agree it would be much nicer if rather than being an Order that was an Exemption we could be part of the regs cleanly and openly with clear positive statements of allowable operations and areas of exclusion ... if for no other reason that because the legal structure of an exemption is that if you fail to comply with ALL of the requirements of the exemption you fall outside the exemption in its entirety and you are then in a shed load of breaches of the regs ... no licence, non-registered aircraft etc

Oh ... I just realized I wrote a whole paragraph about positive clear drafting in CASA regulations - clearly suffering heat stroke - I'm off for a lay down under a cool wet flannel for a bit.

This is interesting, it might explain why the pilot who went down in banks strait is up on so many charges when in fact I can't pick what he did wrong other than alchol less that eight hour rule. Maybe I just answered my own question.

  2. It is, in fact, the first prototype of an ingenious French ( who else... they invented Citroens) automated dried-garlic production machine. You can see the garlic bulbs on the drying platform immediately behind the wing-shaped air-blast garlic chute device used to deposit the bulbs removed from the field. The design principle was stunningly original: the machine would be driven at high speed, utilising the long-wheelbase for stability, through the paddock/field, with the unsilenced Anzani single-cylinder engine frightening the bulbs clear out of the ground where they would be collected in the capacious centre-'hold' or 'bin' area. When the 'bin' was full, the machine would be turned towards the drying platform and by turning very tightly to the right - aided by the dumpy tail operating in the prop-blast - the bulbs would roll up the delivery chute and be spread over the drying platform quite evenly. This distribution was aided by the wide but shallow shape of the delivery chute ( only required on one side, for obvious reasons) and the aerodynamic shape of the chute provided lift in the accelerated phase of the turn to counteract the weight of the bulbs as they ran out to the 'tip' of the delivery chute.

    That's what I thought.

  3. Endorsements generally don't cost anything unless you need to do the hours for a cross- country for instance. If you have been previously licensed it will still be on file...you would have to do a BFR or whatever else an instructor required I suppose to become current just like the rest of us.

''Endorsements don't cost anything'' If this is the thinking across the raa board that would explain some of their decision making lately.

  4. From what is written in the latest Sport Pilot magazine, the utility endoresment will only be able to be used by the ower of a rural property in his own plane over his own property. Unsure if you will be able to get the endoresment without this until they come out with some more info.

They can already do all of that without an endorsement

  5. Mriya , I don't want to argue about the sort of god you are describing as an unlikely but possible first cause. It is the god of the Biblical and Koran stories, the one who made the firmament as a navigation hazard for Jabirus, who sends earthquakes and stuff, who I want to dispute. And why shouldn't I make fun of somebody who says the earth is flat? These people have a dreadful record. Those who believe absurdities can commit atrocities.

Your knowledge of who said what was flat and when needs some upgrading

  6. You can claim that things are a certain way all you like, but that doesn't make it true:- The re-activation of membership medical declaration is different to the renewal medical declaration

    - When you join RA-Aus, or reactivate a lapsed membership, you don't _ever_ need a note from your doctor.

My axe to grind is that the Ops manual is a schemozzle and it should be fixed long before further privileges are sought. At the very least, pilots should be obliged to fly within the conditions on their drivers license, if those are relevant to flying (such as visual correction). It appears that Issue 7 of the Ops manual was a rush job that wasn't proofread before release.

you need to do some more reading, then take a minute and then try to comprehend what it is you just read. You jump to conclusions to quickly.

  7. Under the RAA standards, you don't even have to ask your doctor, though! That's the ridiculous part of the drivers license medical standard. As I was saying, the RAAus standard appears to allow people with early dementia to fly. Do you want demented pilots in CTA with your loved ones on a commercial flight?I don't see why the standard for flying into Sydney Harbour Scenic 1 should be any less than the standard for driving a bus down George Street in Sydney.

Subject to annual review by an endocrinologist, and no flying for six weeks after a severe hypo, assuming you have no other complications. That's the license standard for a truck driver (roughly).

I think it's great that people with early dementia can fly, Do you want demented pilots in CTA with your loved ones on a commercial flight? Well I've heard everything now, you must be running out of things to talk about. Buy a game of scrabble and find a friend.

  8. well we did vote them in......If we don't like change it at the next election.

We Did vote them in but that didn't give them un challenged power. Our job is to keep them on the straight and narrow and if we fail throw them out quickly to save our country. The idea of a mandate is crap

  9. RAAus membership is in my belief is under priced when one considers the benefits - our insurance and importantly the platform to pursue economical flying..080_plane.gif.36548049f8f1bc4c332462aa4f981ffb.gif

Are you kidding. You blokes amaze me with such statements without looking seriously at value for money.

  10. It's very easy to fit, drill 2 holes for the rods to pass through to secure the top cap on, spring fits inside the leg. The rods that hold on the cap slide over the pin that the bungee curved under. drill two holes for split pins. done.. They are excellent quality, about $500 from memory. I am very happy with it.

I'll order one this month, Thanks Keith.

  11. Thanks for the feed back.Yeah I know there is still a lot to do, but it's just satisfying to see things slowly taking shape..

A good build so far, everything just fits together.

Regarding corrosion, using what the factory recommended, Cortec.

The Only Mod so far is to do away with the bungee.

    Regards Keith

Hi Kieth, what did you use to replace the bungee

  12. Another sailor here. Spent plenty of time in the briney, never been eaten. Just like most of my mates. One day I was sailing as youngen (maybe 15) when I broke a tiller in a race. Sailed the boat almost back in but capsized in the mouth of the river. I was tired and we could not get the boat back up. When we finally got it upright a fishermen upped anchor and offered to tow us in. When we got to shore he showed us his prize catch, a 5ft shark caught about 30m from where we capsized!! Most sharks are not interested in people.

When your up too your are in alligators it hard to remind yourself that the main objective is to drain the swamp
