  1. I think the Eco would be just the ticket....its also I believe a lot safer than the std autopilots setups as you can override a faulty servo and lets face it really you just want it to take away most of the work to let your hands free for a while to do other stuff. Also I really like the overshoot programming they have in it...would be great for low time pilots to stop stalling in turns on final

I see trutack have removed the Eco from their product list, disappointing.

  2. I have flown the Nullarbor roadhouse - broken hill route quite a few times and always stop in at Mount Ive station for fuel and or accomodation. Very welcoming people, 98 oct fuel available, cheap shearers quarters up to restored stone quarters. Food, BBQ packs and alcohol available at the shop.

    Cheers rick

  3. Okay, thank you, I have minimal instructions for those assemblies, for the seats only (not the rails), with no parts lists and no mention of rivet types.Looks like I'll need to chase that up.

For now, as it is basic firewall forward construction that I am wanting to complete, can you confirm that it is all aluminium rivets? Thanks.

Firewall is all aluminium rivets A4 and A5' s

  4. Thanks, Guy. That would certainly make sense to me. But the joining holes are A4 and these are A5 rivets. However, A5 rivets are used in the various doublers that are then fixed to the firewall. But the manual says nothing about rivet type there.

So far, the steel rivets remain a mystery....

There's quite a few stainless rivets in the sliding seats, in the high stress areas where they have stainless doubler plates.

  5. So are there any intrepid flyers out there who have continued east from Forest along the rail line ?

Haven't flown it myself, have always gone the Eyre Hwy route, but others I have talked to who have gone that way usually head north west from Nullarbor roadhouse to pick up the trans line then follow it to Forrest. From there keep following to Kalgoorlie. There are well maintained strips at most all of the sidings if you need a comfort stop. The only iffy factor is rain on the strip, usually after thunderstorms that can make them slippy.

  6. I did a lot of research into oil thermostats on 912 and most people who put one on found little or no benefit. So I decided not to bother putting one in myself. Then had a guy ask me to install one for him. I told him about my research but he insisted so I installed one for him and yes indeed made little or no difference to warm up time.

    Just my $.02 worth

  7. So first I should apologise for such a late build thread. I've been building a Savannah XL for a little while now.I figured there were a few build threads going, so I was a bit slack with posting. But I guess the build took a change in direction with the decision to go with the 912iS injected engine. This was due to a bunch of different reasons, cost, safety and cool gadgety stuff. And you've gotta love the fuel burn they can achieve and the extended range (I plan on doing lots of cross country trips)

The engine is also coupled with the Dynon system and autopilot. I come from and electrical and instrumentation background, so all that stuff appeals to me.

Noticed there wasn't much info from people that had installed the injected engine, but also a bit of misinformation and scepticism. So I thought I'd do a thread if anyone is interested with installing the injected 912iS engine and possibly answer queries about it that might help.

    Cheers,

    Lee

Bring it on, I'm drooling for more photos.

  8. Hi all,was just wondering if a 2 axis pilot (TruTrak for example) can be install in a Savannah ?

If so what brand and what servo should be used ?

    Cheers,

    Xavier

I installed a 2 axis a/p using MGL xtreme plus mgl servos. Fair bit of work to make brackets and install. I wasn't super happy with the residual drag of the servos, that is the amount of drag on the controls when the a/p is disconnected, but it appears you do get used to it.

You can use other servos with the MGL system and I have heard of servos with nil residual drag.

I did look into the Eco system from tru track, looks good and easier to install and nil drag on the controls but try and get info out of them is like pulling teeth, I gave up.

    Cheers

  9. I am still reading and learning about this all. I was reading if there is a return fuel line, you should have a sensor on it to gain more accurate readings.

Yes, but you can still get the same accuracy if the takeoff for the fuel return is before the fuel flow sender, so the one sender is then measuring the total fuel drawn by the carb(s). Hope you understand that, would be better with a diagram.

What engine is it intended for?

  10. Hi All,I have just purchased a recreation aircraft, and I was thinking about putting a fuel flow instrument in, that was until I saw how much the fuel flow sensors cost!!!.

Is there any recommendations / thoughts around this, and if anyone knows where to get them a lot cheaper than $325!! (I need to get 2 sensors)

I was thinking about the MGL Infinity one

    Infinity

You can get a fuel flow gauge with 2 senders for $325?, please tell me where!

  11. Hey all,Starting work on the lower rear fuselage of the 701 and realise I need nutplates for the rear access hatch (and other inspection panels in wings).

Don't really want to do an order to the US because the freight would be far more than the item cost.

Is there anywhere in Aus that sells these? I'd need about 50 of the plates and screws.

    Part numbers are:

    Plates: MS107SL3

    Screws: AN525-10R7

Also #40 blind rivets, not sure if these have to be anything special as the nut and plate would be taking all the load.

    Thanks!

    Cheers, Marty

    Hi Marty,

I have used ASAP Aircraft spares in Caboolture, Qld a few times, they will email you a quote beforehand so you don't crap yourself later, and very quick with the mailing too. Check their website or call them.

  12. Well I know I am doing this wrong by doing things out of order but I thought this would be an easy job and would save some space and prevent parts going astray!I followed the instructions and drilled a new hole on the rim for the air valve 27mm from the edge. then I got the tire and tried to "slip it over the drilled half of the wheel, it goes maybe half way and then is completely stuck. Is there a "knack" to this? I tried washing up liquid but no luck. any advice welcome?

You reckon it's hard to seat the bead? Lube and air pressure does that easy.

What will bust your guts is trying to get it off. And if you take it to some ham fisted tyre shop bloke to break the bead you will get your rim back in pieces.

As Mark said, the condor and air track tyres fit and remove easier.

    Cheers

  13. I'm thinking I might meet a friend who is travelling by land eastbound through YNUB, and air-tour the Head of Bight area with them in January. Does anyone have experience of this strip? Is Premium Unleaded available, or just Avgas? I've read the ERSA, AOPA, and Pilots touring Guide. Just wondering if anyone who has been there has specific recommendations prior to arrival. I've read the Fly Neighbourly 4 info from AIP. Anyone with advice? Thanks.

I have flown into YNUB quite a few times, last time was was Ozkosh 2016. Avgas available out the back, PULP available from the bowser at the front.

Switch motor off at the side entry and drag plane to the bowser, when it is quiet enough to do so. You may have to wait while the campers and caravans fill up and move on. Borrow a milk crate from the fuel pay counter if you need to see into the wing tanks. Work quickly to get out quickly, some people don't register there is an aircraft at the bowser and just drive in behind you. Good if you have a mate with you to handle the curious ones while you get on with the refuelling.

You should have no problems, have a great flight.

    Cheers

  15. For my 5 year hose replacement on my Savannah XL I need to find the 25mm radiator inlet and outlet hose with the wire coil for stiffness. 1m and 500mm. The list of places I've tried in Australia is getting ridiculously long - automotive, agricultural, bearing and hose specialists, rubber specialists, performance parts... Car radiator hose is too soft. Normal suction hose doesn't handle the temperature or the coolant chemicals. I'm told it has to be EPDM rubber but no-one can help. Any suggestions?

eBay is my friend, easier than searching around town, here's a couple I found in a few minutes. I used the wire reinforced silicon hose just because you don't have to change it in 5 years time.

EPDM rubber- 25mm 1" I.D Flexible EPDM Rubber Reinforced Radiator Coolant Hose Pipe Tube uk | eBay
