  1. Skydivers are have also done it a few times where a team 4 way (group of 4 skydivers) all went in together because they where so rap up with the jump no one was watch there height.
  2. The catch is with formation flying you are not meant to think for yourself you think as one big aircraft. Its the responsibility of lead to maintain seperation with other aircraft outside the formation and with the ground so in all fairness formation is just follow the leader.
  3. Yes Peter I do agree a radio does give you great situational awareness if used correctly. I am biased, I fly for a living and get stuck listening to the radio pretty much every time I go flying. This is great for work as its a busy area with a big mix of aircraft. On the other hand when I get out in the Thruster I love the fact that I have the wind in my hair the Rotax screaming away and thats it. Its nice to relax and enjoy the view. In saying that I fly at a resonably quiet airfield and I keep my eyes firmly open! I am in no way saying radios are evil but I don't agree that everyone should have to have one! I believe the CTAF and CTAF® work well keeping the busy airports radio bound but allowing those fuddy duddys like me to still have the freedome to have a little bit of quiet time! Adam.
  4. Sorry Tony I don't agree. We've been flying for over 100 years now without radios! The mark one eyeball has always worked well the radio is only a back up.
  5. The Whitsunday airpark is about 80% sold for all stages. I'm working out of here at the moment and it is going to be a tight squeeze with all the houses and the new taxiways. The strip has just been shortened to 900 meters (about 700 useable) to start the sealing of the stip with restricted access to parking and fuel. So if you are coming in here give the airport a call and get the latest info as it will be always changing over the next year or so. Not much work going on at the moment as our parking area is under about a foot of water! Got to love the wet season!!!! Adam.
  6. What was the weather like? Any chance of carby ice? Would explain the regain once you where on the ground and it had melted. I know Rotax's do get it and there is no real "good" solution to fix it.
  7. Ground loop the aircraft. Depending on what type of aircraft your in you may get away with not doing any damage at all to the aircraft at up to 25 kts. Worst case you will probably wipe out the gear and touch a wing on the ground but its better than going through a fence and getting thrown on your back. My 2 cents. Adam
  8. Thats actually in Pounds Per Hour PPH so not as bad as you think. Metro's... they don't call them the san andraos sewer pipes for nothing. Horrible Aircraft to fly and even worse to be a passenger in!
  9. Hello Ed, I used to fly with one when I was doing night frieght a couple of years ago. In my opionion it probably wouldn't be worth the bother fitting one. They are not that accurate and the mark on eye ball was always a much better tool than the little green screen. In day VFR you should be able to pick the storm cells from a normal CU although I haven't done that much flying in monsoon conditions. Thats my 2 cents. Adam.
  10. Not really on subject but you say you are only just doing your licence. I would suggest waiting until you get it and fly a few different aircraft and see which one you like the most. It can all get very exciting buying an aircraft and before you know it you can end up with something that you didn't really want. So my advice for anyone buying a plane. Slow down! and make sure its exactly what you want. Just because its what you can afford doesn't mean its the right one for you. Adam.
  11. Shute Harbour is a has a nice cafe good food and a caravan park right next door. Or there is always someone around to get you into town. But beware of windy conditions lots of turblance and down drafts not for the rag a tube on days like that.
  12. Sounds like you did the right thing Ian the only thing I can see is that it is HIS airfield and he has the right to do what ever he wants on it I don't know the arrangment you have with him for use so I can't really say anymore. Would have been easy for him to pull off to one side though!!! Just proves common sense isn't so common! Adam
  13. This was a very sad event the loss of a great pilot (Very experianced Reno Air Racer) and a one of a kind Mustang. These guys are super experianced and this happened so next time you go flying remeber it can happen and be careful. Adam.
  14. Hello Tony, Sorry to hear about your hard time. I'm trying to get down to Brissy later this month and catch up. Hope is getting better. Adam.
  15. Hello, For small holes I use sail patch which is dacron with a sticky backing that can be found at any boat shop. It is strong and can be painted to any colour and have never had a problem using it for small holes. Hope this helps. Adam
  16. Cheers Ian, Another year older and hopfully a little bit wiser! Great new look of the web site as well! Adam.
  17. I'd have to disagree with you J430. The entire idea of ultralights is keeping it simple. I don't have a radio in my aircraft let alone a transponder and I would not even consider ADSB. If I did, I wouldn't be able to get in the aircraft with all the extra gear and weight. If you want to go into GAAPs and International airports jump in a GA machine. If you want to go for a fly have some fun and not pay through the nose fly RAA. Thats why the AUF came about many years ago, lets not forget that and try and make us GA. Adam.
  18. Watts bridge usually has some hangar space (Ask Tony Hayes aka TOSG on here) Caboolture may be another option although its usually pretty full and $$$. Adam.
  19. Hello, I looked at this a couple of years ago when I was in sydney and thinking of bring my plane down south. I looked at Watts bridge towards moree then down towards dubbo and across to sydney that way it would keep you away from most of the high country and over "reasonable ground" Hope that gives you an idea. Adam.
  20. Hey Geoff, Nah I flew out for Alligator out of kunnanurra didn't get out to the coast alot but spent alot of time on lake argyle and the surrounds. Awsome country up there looks like you had a great trip. Adam.
  21. He Geoff nice photo's from up north funny thing is I used to land in the prince regent river (not the bit in the photo though!) So for me your caption works well!! Adam.
  22. Not just you it happens to most members the reason being the are printed and then the memebers one's are sent to be packed in plastic and addressed while the others go straight to the agents. Means they get them quicker but also means they are selling sooner therefore costing us less in the long run. Adam.
  23. Great report, You probably won't be thinking it now but your trip was probably the best thing that could have happened. I would say next time out you won't have any of the problems and will have learnt from this experiance! Just think of the hours! Adam
  24. We are still here try the Thruster, Drifter and lightwing forums. They are more challenging and thats why half the people fly them! Heaps more fun than flying on training wheels! Adam
  25. Great story Ian! Thats why this site is so good! As they always say learn from other peoples mistakes because you won't live long enough to make them all yourself! Adam.
