  1. Hi Kasper,I would be interested to hear more or from others on your Streak III comments as I was under the assumption (only from others as I have never flown a Streak III) that this wing was a generally well rounded and stable wing in comparison lets say to the earlier Streak and Streak II versions.

Would like to hear anything you or anyone else wants to add on this especially when you say "I can see people getting into trouble with quickly".

Whilst this may not be the thread for it I am always interested to hear the more experienced among us comments on the likes of the Streaks, Cruz & Arrow S & K wings. It's all information I like to tuck away for upgrade time :-)

    Cheers

Most of my trike time is in a Pegasus Quantum with Q2 wing and Pegasus Q with a Q wing. Both these machines were sweet, particularly the Q. I have also flown and Airborne Edge (very ordinary compared) and the streak 3 which was the closest in harmony with the Q2. I also had an Airborne with the old Arrow wing (based on a Moyes GTR) and it was very poor.

  2. Very few have said there wasnt a problem but many have said CASA action is not detailed and unjustified. If fed from this report its no surprise as it too doesnt differentiate models of engines either. Ill bet that amongst some shoddy info on the problems, the size of the engine (both makers) IS known. This report doesnt breakdown engine type or even seriousness of problem

No doubt throughbolts are an issue, the upgraded 7/16 with o rings is a full tear down to fit Id expect. Hoping for owners this isnt whats required to release limitations.

The concept that resonance is involved.....maybe but surely that makes the data applicable to engine cylinder configuration

What the report does indicate is what a bad year of problems can do to a small data set. The previous >2013 report draft indicated failure rates the same for both manufacturers.

With some stretching it also might indicate something introduced into Jab engines around 2007/08 has brought in significant issues - any guesses?

    Big heavy hydraulic lifters.

  3. I found it interesting today walking around the Watts Bridge breaky. Out of 25 plus aircraft, there was only one Jabiru. Another arrived as I was leaving but it was a Rotax powered one.

Things are a bit different at YLTV. There are 26 Jabiru/Camit powered Jabirus there including mine along with many other Jabiru powered aircraft and they spend a lot of time in the air. They even venture off on trips of great distance, Australia wide (as I have in mine and plan to do so again this year). There is also a beautiful RV7 that has been flying now for years and I don't know if it has ventured far from the circuit.

  4. yep this was amazing, nearly 1000ft/min climb, if my arithmetic is correct. In the Grob it was saying 3-5m/s. I couldn't believe that we could fly so far and so high without burning petrol. We were up for 70 min but could have stayed up for hours. Loved it.

This is gliding - Mount Broughton to Mooroopna. 2 hours 35 minutes. No fuel used. Foot launched and landed.

  5. Hi KAImpressive height gain.

You obviously knew you were very close to the 4500 step between GBR and the Gap but, seeing you and your buddy in those great photos I'll pay even more attention to the possibility of traffic in the area as I thread my way across the Range there.

    Happy NY

EDIT...I just noticed on the Melb VNC that Mt Hickey is shown as Mt Mickey which prompted me to ask if you launch from there or somewhere else. k

We lanch from a hill known as 'Three Sisters', about 1 nm north of the Flowerdale pub - which coicidentally is a popular landing area. I flew there again on Wednesday but did not get up and away. I ended up driving retrieve for a mate who broke the site record, landing in Warragul.

  6. Yesterday I had an enjoyable paragliding flight at Fairhaven, at the start of the Great Ocean Road. After getting a bit bored hanging around the takeoff hill I started exploring to the west. Managed to climb to relatively low cloudbase (orographic coastal cloud) and continue on to Lorne.

  7. My reference to CASA as maggots is at the organisation..not any particular individual, although Im sure there are many there.... and there are probably lots of nice people too...but the "CASA" yes is a maggotCASA as an organisation is feeding on the carcass of general aviation and pilots, to grow into more blow flies and feed on it again until it is non existent....

And whilst i respect you right to object...I also reserve my right after such a long drawn out frustrating effort...i have never had to deal with such an inept organisation in my life!

Put that way, fair enough. Trying to get somewhere with some of these beaurocracies is emotionally very draining.

  8. My 3300 Jab engine has to date been excellent. I installed a separate naca inlet and large duct to the latest issue jab oil cooler. Just forward or cooler is a controllable butterfly valve and manifold. (same effect as cowl flaps) Oil temp is fully controllable, and kept at the 80 to 90 degrees range. It is a great option with jab engines, and is usually fully closed in cold weather cruise, to fully open during a hot day, to anywhere in-between as required.

Lower engine cowl has a ram air opening directly on to sump fins also.

    Dave.

I am running the same set up, separate naca duct to oil cooler with air flow to cooler controlled by butterfly valve. Same observations too, closed most of the time and opened as required to maintain 80 - 90 degrees C.
