  1. (Just love the rolling on the floor laughing smilie from Ozzie.)

Ok, I shouldn't say anything, but here is what I was told:

Once you have your licence, you can fly up to 25 nm from your "starting" airport. You must also avoid controlled airspace, restriced areas and all that stuff too.

You can NOT land at another airport within that area. You are not familiar with it and so have to return to your "starting" airport at the end of each trip.

This is not to say it doesn't happen. I am sure it does and I can't comment on what happens if there is an accident.

There may be times when it is ok too. I don't know the specifics so shall leave it there.

  2. Well here's a thought:

Although X-Country allows you to fly away, maybe an "extended" X-Country ticket should be introduced. OR a weather course.

That way it gives deeper knowledge of weather and trip planning.

Then: If the person does want to fly from A - B they get their XC cert' but if they seriously want to do trips, do the extended course and get more info which will be useful.

    How's that?

  3. Hi Simonflyer.

    Couple of things. Mearly statements.

I can appreciate both sides of the discussion about SIGMET format.

1: They are complicated/difficult to read.

2: That is how they have always been.

Although the technology may exist to make the easier to read, is there really a need, but: HOW does someone become proficiant at reading them?

It is one thing to look at the letters and THINK you understand them. You go flying, have a safe trip and so it re-enforces (to you) that you understand them.

This is a bad thing, as one day something will be there which you don't understand or dismiss as trivial. THEN YOU DIE!

    This is not good.

I try to understand them and often check with others with my understanding of them.

On the other hand, if we make them THAT easy to read - ie: using common English words - it would not be fair on people in other countrys and it would/could go from a couple of lines to a whole parragraph - ultimately telling you nothing more.

(P.S. "up is still up even when you're upside down" YOUR is the wrong word.)

  4. Only one thing if someone is thinking of it:

Make sure you plane doesn't need avgas, and *CAN* run on ULP or E10.

Expecting Premium ULP may be stretching it a bit in some places I believe.

Suffice to say check the plane can handle with worst petrol before you go.

    Happy/safe flying.

  5. JUST ASKING... Spare seat in plane. (Trip 24-27 July to Leeton)

I am expecing to leave Friday 24'th.

I am not sure on the exact track, but it is starting at YWOL and ending at Leeton - probably Friday.

Anyway, coming back MONDAY (Sunday if it is not looking good).

    I shall probably be flying a J160 or a 230.

So for now I am ONLY asking. I have over 400 Hrs PIC.

Oh, and don't worry. I don't get lost. People keep telling me where to go. 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

(BTW, where is the "flying man" icon?)

    :man flying:

    (Don't worry. Found it.)

  6. Hang on!!!!

Well the saga continues. The current Developer who is looking to buy the airport is making a presentation to Council tonight. It's a public meeting so we're encouraging as many people as possible to attend. We feel it's a good chance to show the new Council that the community actually cares about what happens out there.

We have had several run-ins with the Current proponent including one of our pilots being forced to move out of the way of his Landcruiser as it hurtled towards him along the grass runway. When our CFI approached the vehicle a little later to tell them to get off the runways/taxiways he drove toward her until she had to move and carried on with the windows rolled up.

This is not the kind of person we want in charge!

If anyone is free and would like to attend the meeting is at 5:30pm in Council chambers. It is a public meeting. The presentations should be over by 6pm I would imagine so it shouldn't take up much time. Some of us are taking small protest signs so if you would like to join us in doing this please feel free. I think it's time we started making a little noise. Tony Lamarra will be talking to Council also to implore them to retain the airport on behalf of all users.

Hope to see some of you there. Sorry about the late notice.

    Errr, but that is illegal.

I hope the rego was taken and the police notified. Yeah, ok probably nothing will happen. 051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

But you shouldn't let them get away with it all the same.

If you don't report them, it is telling them that you don't "care".

Present it with an analogy that if someone was on their property and making a mess, drove at them in a car.

    Good luck.

  7. I have been told that the airshow is very badly run. That is why they do it every two years. If they did it yearly, people would remember the previous year. So it is JUST enough time for people to forget how bad it was last time and go again.

Hey, I shall try to go in two years anyway, but reading what has been said, I shall have my ASIC card.
