Thanks frank, that's what I thought, so how high can you go?
-
I understand the upper limit for Raa , but if prepared to carry oxygen can rpl flyers legally go higher
-
Rpl Is there a height restriction for rpl , Raa has 9500 , is rpl the same
-
That's what I thought , everything from the firewall forward , and maybe some of the gauges will need to be changed, he said it cruised at 150 using just over 30lts ran smooth and sounded great
-
I reckon I spoke to him , the Rv is pretty cheap but to change the engine over to a lycombing if it failed not much change out of $60k

anyone had any experience with the jab 8 cylinder engine, reliability etc

Plane is set up for glider towing, so as it starts its run the at full fine it can't over rev because of the glider hanging off the back but with no glider it will , the owner is worried that the clutch maybe letting go as it over revs on the first tow also makes a different noise , we think the easiest way to test is to send the box back to floods, reading the Rotax manuals I think there is a way to check the torque but looks hard enough to figure out
-
Thanks nev, you might be on the right track
-
It over revs on the fine set for glider tow on the first flight after that on the same setting it performs ok,
-
I thought the clutch was designed to slip in case of prop strike which I turn saves the pressed crank from twisting. It's not a csu you manually set the pitch using a crank handle in the cab

Inflight adjustable , Kašpar

Got a mate towing gliders and noticed first tow the engine revs to high then settles down, could the clutch be slipping in the box , engine is low hours any ideas ?
-
I fitted a knock sensor to my 914, thinking it might show up stale fuel , bolted the Mike somewhere near the rocker cover , series of lights on a display inside cab which light up when engine is high up in the rev range but I don't think it picks up any detonation or maybe the motor has never had a problem

I wasn't really concerned with the weight of my Xair , I am having trouble getting my head around my sabre ending up with a lower MTOW than the Xair , although all the rego renewals have came back at 544 so l am guessing it has been sorted out and that fantastic looking blue sabre ,regardless of the dispute , can legally find a new home
-
I might need more HP , but I think yours is a bit different to mine
-
Mine was set at the higher weight when I first bought it , about 3 years ago, the point I was trying to make was the build and performance difference of both aircraft when comparing MTOW, I think my Xair at MTOW on a warm day would struggle to get off the ground
-
As well as my sabre I also own a Xair , my lame called it a flying annex and my CFI although happy to fly in the sabre not so much in the Xair . Now I am the first to admit I am way out of my depth when it comes to understanding the rules and laws of our regulators as opposed to some of the other experts on these forums but you would think common sense would eventually prevail , the Xairs MTOW is 544kgs

There has been a couple of landings with the wheels up , can't really blame the plane for that, and they come out without much damage as the wheels still run on the ground , the undercarriage all go over centre and lock into place .i had to adjust one limit switch that's about it and I have done I lot of landings,
-
Interesting , I have clocked up 1350hrs in my sabre, never had any trouble with the undercarriage flying off our grass strip, only replaced brakes and tyres, parts direct from the factory turns up in a week, the weight restrictions I believe was being sorted out within RAA . There are other Czech built planes flying in Aust with the higher weight limits

Thanks, at 43inches is there plenty of room for two bigger blokes or are you rubbing shoulders
