  3. G`day Bob, ......I`m a recreational pilot also, starting way back from the early days of the Australian Ultralight Federation (AUF)...In the last couple of months, I`ve taken some Canadian backpackers flying in my Drifter...I fly from my own property, here at Deeral, NTH Queensland.
  4. Bob, At this stage it appears we might be lucky! Latest is, it could hit at category 5! if it does, that`s serious damage! Cat 4 will be bad enough....... Frank.
  5. Magic flight this afternoon...Sun going down behind mt Bellenden Ker...Well before last light...Exactly as the photo came out. Frank.
  6. Greetings Trooper, .........What part of FNQ are you from? Frank.
  7. Bob, I should have said, " The Croc was shot about 9 kilometers, from where Warren was taken"...It was well up the inlet, where the Mulgrave and Russell rivers meet...They didn`t retrieve it when they shot it! it came to the surface as it swelled with gas...Us locals, don`t believe they got the right Croc! There`s been a Croc that size, up in the area where they shot it, for a long time. Frank.
  8. Ian, I got that! I wasn`t suggesting otherwise! exactly why I said "presumed"..... To my knowledge, there was no real evidence and the Croc is 9 kilometers from where Warren was taken. Might do some good to let your daughter see my post. Frank.
  9. Hi Ian, My post is correct. Frank.

Print Email By Al Jones | [email protected] Follow on Twitter on March 22, 2017 at 6:22 PM, updated March 22, 2017 at 7:55 PM Stay connected to MLive.com × MLive File Photo VICKSBURG, MI -- A 52-year-old Vicksburg man died Monday when he was struck in the head by an airplane propeller. Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pali Matyas said the mishap occurred at a private air strip in the 6200 block of East W Avenue in Brady Township. It is about one mile from Vicksburg. Matyas said investigators believe the man, whose name authorities have still not released, was trying to hand-crank the propeller of his plane, an older model single-engine Luscombe aircraft "and the propeller blade came around and struck him in the head." "The throttle and ignition were on and the blocks were still in place," Matyas said. "... He turned it all on and went to hand-crank it. And something happened." He said, "We figured it happen sometime late morning, early afternoon." Matyas said investigators are not sure what time the mishap occurred but believe it happened not long after 11 a.m. The man called a friend at that time and said he was headed to the hangar. They had plans to meet later. When he failed to show and failed to contact others, friends started to make calls, Matyas said. Matyas said a concerned friend ultimately headed to the air strip and found the man by his plane in a field adjacent to a hangar where it was kept. Deputies said the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified and have asked for copies of the sheriff's office incident report. Matyas said no foul play is suspected. "At this time they are aware of it and requested a copy of our report," he said. "What they do is up to them from there."
  11. This is presumed to be the Crocodile that attacked Warren and has been shot...It is a male, over 4 mts in length...I took the photo this morning. Frank.
  12. Bob, I sincerely hope so, but knowing what I know, I doubt the message will get through to everyone who chooses to spearfish...I did it for years, knowing of the dangers and it didn`t stop me...Over the years, I`d been spearfishing with Warren several times. Frank.
  13. I`ve just been informed, that a Crock in the area where Warren was taken, has been shot by the authorities! Frank.
  14. Last Sunday, I did two flights in the Drifter, one in morning and one in the afternoon, that I hope I never have to do again! I searched the coastline where a friend and fellow spear fisherman, Warren Hughs, aged 35, went missing while spear fishing. Warren went missing on Saturday and I was only informed, by my son Michael, around 8pm that night! Michael and I immediately launched his boat and searched the coastline until 2 am Sunday morning, where we knew Warren had gone spearing, but found nothing, however, we did see the eyes of a very large Crocodile, in the area. A rescue helicopter had searched the area before me, but like me, didn`t find anything! Around 7am Monday, another helicopter search was carried out and the body of Warren was found lying on the bottom of the ocean, 200 mts south of his boat and where he`d gone into the water! A crock had taken him by the head. I took this photo while searching...Warrens boat is the silver one just out from the rocks, the other two are Police boats. The red mark on the GE photo is the position where Warren went into the water. R.I.P. Warren. Frank.

  21. Deeral, replying!....Blue sky, grey sky or any other sky, plane always available................ rod_mct. Frank.
  22. G`Day from Deeral, North Queensland, Australia! wishardjefrey.....
  23. I`ve just had a good look at the Sydney Morning Herald video and it appears, I repeat appears to me that the lines pylon500 is referring to are the leading edge of the wing! If that is correct, the aircraft has impacted the ground with a very steep nose down attitude. Frank.
  24. I`m lucky to have had a life at all, let alone the ability to fly ( I`ve just got back from a magic flight in my Drifter)!!! My Father dreamed of flying! In his teens he would write letters to his girl friend (My mother) describing his flying...As I said earlier, WW2 destroyed those dreams. This particular day, some German soldiers came into the town he and my Mum lived in, lined up a row of civilians, counted to the tenth person and that person was shot on the spot, my fathers friend who was beside him, panicked, ran and was shot in the back! I`m here simply because my Father didn`t panic and wasn`t the tenth person. On another day German soldiers came into his town and took away all the men they could find, my Father survived because the soldiers didn`t find him, on yet another day, German soldiers burnt down my Mum`s parents house. It`s been a great privilege to have taken flying, Mum, Dad, my mother-in-law and the hundreds of others, over the years. Franco, Ps, In no way is this post intended to discredit the German people! It`s just the way it happened then.....
  25. At 17 years of age, I met my wife Frances and here mother! At 18 years of age Fran and I married...I never got to meet Frans father because, four years earlier he`d had a severe stroke and had passed away a couple of months before I met Fran! He was 56 years of age...Money was scarce for Frans family and they hadn`t even owned a car. Years went by and one day I decided to build an Ultralight aircraft! I wanted to fly but couldn`t afford to any other way...Frans mother, Peg (everyone called her Peg) Maloney, had never been near an aircraft, let alone a home built Ultralight, yet she helped me sew the skins for it and when the time was right, Peg, my mother-in-aw, had the courage to be my first passenger! More years went by and I now had the Drifter....As a young man my Father had a desire to fly but WW2 in Europe killed any hope of that happening... Both of my parents, who had never been near an aircraft, got to experience their first flight, in the Drifter, with me and several more, over the years. To date, in the Drifter, I have taken flying our three Children, eight Grand Children and one Great Grand Daughter and hopefully, it won`t be long before I get to take up our second Great Grand Daughter...Hopefully! I`ll still be flying the Drifter when our two Great Grand Sons are old enough to fly. Peg, Mum and Dad, Deceased....R.I.P. Franco.
