  1. Yea but Turbines look and sound so cool . I fly model aircraft (Gold wings Powered and Glider) and every field I've been to (only 4) have all had some restrictions. The only aircraft I would suggest have a very low risk of fire are gliders. The batteries in MOST (NOT ALL) gliders are NiMh, your standard rechargable batteries. Other Battery powered aircraft USUALLY use LiPo Batteries. LiPo's can cause Fire here are a couple of examples from youtube 1) Although this is rare it does happen. Can't tell you much about liquid fueled RC aircraft as I don't fly them. It's great that you are going to let the club fly on your property, With the correct management risk of fire or other accidents can be minimal. Most RC pilots that become members of clubs are very responsable and follow the rules.

  7. Well done Av8ta. Keep us posted on the rest of your lessons. I had sore cheeks from smiling after my first solo.
  8. Need Another 3 Hours Min for the Pax and I won't be starting the navs untill Late September. I realy hope you can get your cert flight in soon. I'm sure there will be a great sense of relief when its done. It can't rain forever.
  9. 3rd times the charm. Didn't get to do mine untill the third try. The weather can't stay bad for ever
  10. Thank you everyone. Test was in the 160. Stalled the left wing. Nice pronounced drop. but easy to recover.
  11. Past my flight test today. . First landing with CFI was the furthest I had ever been of the centre line. Right wheel was left of the line. I always have the centre line between the landing gear. The cross wind was mild. Bloody nervs. No matter how much you tell yourself its just another flight the nervs get ya. Although that one landing was not so good that was the worst of it. Everything else was within limits and I nailed the tight turns that I was worried about, But had put in extra practice on the tight turns. Just as a note the CFI that tested me is not my normal CFI he was from another school asociated with the school I fly at and I had never flown with him before. It feels good to have that part completed. Now I am looking forward to all the other training. NAVS, PAKS, short field, other aircraft and generally improving my flying. Thats a lot so as posted on another thread this truly is just the end of the begining.
  12. Yep the wind was gusting to 30kt so No test Today. Try again friday.
  13. 0.5 Solo in some turbulent air today. Flight test tomorrow at 10:30am forcast for rain later in the day so I'm hoping the rain don't come early.
  14. I also ride motorcycles and would not even sit on one without a helmet ATGATT. But I would never use a helmet in a car unless on a race track. I am new to RA and maybe you guys know somthing I don't. I understand there are managed dangers and even the best pilot under the best circimstances could be involved in an incident. It should all be about choice. Do you choose to be involved in a dangerous sport and how do you choose to best manage the dangers beyond the mandatory regulations. Would I choose to continue flying if a helmet was mandatory? YES. Would I choose to fly with a helmet or should it be mandatory? NO. The other problem with a helmet is heat. In a closed aircraft your head would get very hot even with all the vents open. Motorcycles and open aircraft have a lot of airflow. Closed aircraft have very little airflow and I would be worried about the negative effects of heat.
  15. Forcast for showers tomorrow morning with rain increasing in the afternoon. Test at 10:30am. I hope the showers hold off.
  16. Thx guys, I will start a new thread if I pass. This thread is just about getting to that point. If I need to do some more work to pass later I'll keep this thread going.
  17. An hour Solo curcuits with croswind. Flight Test on Wednesday.
  18. 0.3 Solo. Overcast with no rain all day just before 4:00pm. Dragged the plan out of the hanger removed all the covers done the walk around jumped in completed runups and checks taxied to the runway. Still looking good no rain, no shower visable in any direction. Rolled down the runway took off got to about 200ft and drops start to apear on the screen. Slow 80kt curcuit, land and back to the hanger. Oh well at least I got to fly. A short flight is better than none.
