  2. Congratulations Techman and Mrs Techman. May you enjoy lots of happy moments. :) Regards Phil
  3. I'll start by saying I'm not sure if this fits under general discussion, incidents and accidents, weather or somewhere else. What I will say is get yourselves a copy of Australian Flying January/February 2008 issue. then sit down and read the article on page 54 titled Very Nearly History. It is a spine tingling account of a Melbourne based Warrior pilot that flew into IMC on the 29th of July 2007 on his way back from Echuca around Kilmore Gap. There were 3 pob and he was only day VFR rated. What ultimately saved him was that he confessed to having screwed up and he let ATC help him at the same time as remaining calm during the ordeal. This is real and VERY close to home for some of us. What brought it home for me is that I know one of the ATC people that assisted this chap on the day. It makes compelling reading and I look forward to further discussions. Regards Phil
  4. Wow, what a beauty. Love the photos as well. Stay dry and get the flippers out just in case Regards Phil
  5. Hi George, Welcome to the forum.;) As the Captain mentioned, a bit spooky given the recent events with our mate Browng. :;)2: dont let that bother you though....:) regards Phil

  7. Hi All Welcome to the fold Squid. i'll be over in Adelaide in Feb somewhere around the 18th I think. Would be great to catch up with you all at Aldinga and put faces to names. regards Phil
  8. If that wasn't sooooooo true I'd fall over laughing ;) Oh, what the hell, hadn't finished typing so I changed my mind regards Phil
  9. I'm getting the distinct feeling that being a glider tug pilot is NOT a great occupation.:;)1: I take it that you wouldn't be using a 100hp rotax powered sportstar to pull a glider aloft? Thanks for your replies sofar guys....I'm learning at a great rate of knots;) regards Phil
  10. Is somebody falling on their sword here?? Regards Phil
  11. I might just take you up on that one day when I decide to make my PPL current again. I must admit that I'm having a lot of fun with the J160 and the Texan at the moment (there's a climbing machine for you) ;) looking forward to the J170's regards Phil
  12. Welcome aboard Matto. You'll find friendly people here and lots of good information. Shortlisting a shortlist.....tough job. I like all the lollies so I want to buy the whole shop . Again, welcome aboard and have fun.....also no such thing as a stupid question unless you dont ask.....;) Regards Phil
  13. A friend of mine has recently aquired his glider pilots certificate and has been doing a bit of towing behind an Evektor Sportstar.;) (Apparently it works ok as a combination.) I was asked when I was going to get my glider towing endorsment. :;)2: I've never considered glider towing but dont have a problem with it so I suppose the questions are.... 1. Is there an endorsement for glider towing? 2. Does it fit in the RAA category or do I need to use my PPL? 3. Any idea who would do it? I've never flown a Sportstar but imagine it would be similar to the Flysynthesis Texan which I do have time in. All comments welcome. thanks guys :) Regards Phil
  14. I stand corrected, maybe we're getting 6cyl J170's at Tooradin... ...hmmm...dont think so somehow.... regards Phil
  15. Any more of these gems around.?;) regards Phil
  16. Thanks guys...I've just learnt something as well. I dialled the number and ... wow theres an automated bloke on the other end that gives you a weather report at Kilmore gap.....AND......I understand what he's saying:clap:;)....gotta love technology Regards Phil
  17. Yep, it's called a J230....;) regards Phil
  18. Sorry Yenn..... My posts are a bit tarnished because I have a PPL as well. I should give more consideration to the RAA laws as they stand. ;) You are correct that RAA should not operate above 5000' unless operationally required. Regards Phil
  19. Hi Sixties I noticed that you didn't get abused in this forum for asking a question either I really havent worked out what to make of pprune yet... Regards Phil
  20. Ok. Given that a bolt of lightning may strike me to a pile of ashes, and I get moderated I'll ask the question anyway.:ah_oh: Can we name this CFI fool so we can all avoid him !!!;) Surely we can be warned BEFORE he KILLS someone... We've had enough deaths recently thanks... Regards Phil
  21. Just had a go at that myself. 12 years since I did the BAK...brought back memories. I passed again and had some deficiencies in the knowledge highlighted like... Gliders are in operation at the field, what marker is used to indicate this? a double white cross displayed adjacent to the primary wind indicator. Just relearnt this one. Probably a good idea considering I fly into known glider operation areas. Haven't been in while they're operating yet but it's only a matter of time....:) I'd challenge everyone to have a go at this just for the fun of it....it'll bring back memories....;) Regards Phil
  22. Women claim they can multi task so it sounds like you have permission. Well done my man, well done indeed. regards Phil
  23. I'll agree with Blueshed on the Texan. I'd put the cruise at 105knots to be comfortable though. It'll land in a couple hundred meters without flaps (I've yet to use them) and take off in the same distance. It'll hold a climb of 900fpm at max weight, burns 16lph and is easy to fly and has great visibility. Downside....wear a hat and some sunscreen or you will pay with sunburn. Good to see your not Jabiru bashing there Pelorus32 .... The J160 climbs fine ;);) (when its 20 degrees) I'm expecting the J170 to be much better. ;) Regards Phil
  24. Ozzie....youse never gunna understand a female bro and as for tidying up after yourself, correct, that's not housework as you've found out but it still has me buggered how we get lumped with putting the garden tools away:censored:. Oh well, we're all in the same boat;):;)6::big_grin:... Regards Phil
  25. Ozzie.... you appear to have forgotten 1 thing....you are dealing with a female and asking her to be logical...;) whoops...that's gunna get me a hiding :black_eye: There's a great book out by Barbara and Allan Pease called "Why Men Don't Listen and Women Can't Read Maps" It explains the differences between us and makes for a good laugh at the same time..;) Regards Phil
