1. Thanks Feathers, and if anything comes back from HARS I'll pass it on, too.
2. Looks like an oversized kitchen accessory escapee ... www.barnstormers.com/eFLYER/2007/070600eFLYER.html
3. "I've emailed HARS and have had no response" me too, Glenn ..... :frown:
4. I'm still hoping for unequivocal information regarding the various questions asked in this thread - in the meantime, here's an image I pulled off the web some time ago: it was taken toward the end of January 2007, I think.
5. There was another -DGA, wasn't there? Met a sad and fiery end some years ago but thankfully nothing worse than the aircraft loss (& that was bad enough!) Enjoy the group, Wingnut - and welcome!
6. Anyone for tennis?
7. A wonderful story, Sixties - thank you for sharing it with us. And yes; I also agree with the "milk stool" title!
8. Thanks for that -JJP .... but: do we have any info on what (if anything) is happening to it?
9. Smithy's original aircraft is the one in Brisbane - we're talking here about the replica. I have a suspicion the wings and fuselage are now at different locations but would like some real-time info.
10. Can anyone out there tell me a) where the Southern Cross replica is at the moment ( I thought it was with HARS, but can't see any reference to it on their site) b) what is its current condition? - eg being worked on, stacked in a corner & forgotten, flying, static etc..... thanks in anticipation. 11. Anyone heard how Kempsey has fared with the recent near-Biblical floods? Adelaide and the bottem end of the Murray could have done with just a bit of the east coast deluge...! One hopes no aircraft have been damaged through it all.
12. Welcome aboard, Harry .. your airtime's about 19.4 hours ahead of me, and likely to stretch out even further, but that doesn't mean that this old chook is any less enthusiastic about planes and flying! Have a great time with TAA and all the best for your career!
13. Hiya, Beemster, and welcome to the group. I've found it to be very friendly and not "up itself", so I am sure you'll enjoy your TAA cyber-time. I have great memories of Jandacot from about 30 years ago - very laid back and relaxed place to sit on the side lines and watch the take offs & landings: hope it hasn't changed too much in the intervening years, 'though I suspect there's a bit more traffic these days....
14. And can I alert you all to the superb audio CD sets by Michael Veitch - titled "Fly" & "Flak". These are a wonderful record of the people who, in many cases at ridiculously tender ages, flew for freedom in WW2. Bud Tingwell was among those who told of their experiences - including in his case a photo recce Mosquito. We should all be very grateful to Veitch for having acquired these memories before the opportunity passed.
15. .. kick this section along again (am I the only Old Fart around?). 1911 Hanriot - a masterpiece of aeronautical engineering.
16. Star Wars - definitely so ....
17. Two more Winter shots (not mine...) from Monino. We went through the USSR in the Breznev era, and this place was definitely off limits at the time.
18. The work carried out here is simply incredible: not quite the same or easy as exchanging a handful of money for a box-full of ready made plastic! http://www.collectair.com/woodason.html
19. Scroll down to "REIMAHG" - this was doing it the hard way. http://www.thirdreichruins.com/thuringen.htm
20. I have long been intrigued by the end-of-hangar mural in the Temora hangar. It depicts all of the museum aircraft plus one: a Mirage. I've fantasised that a long-term intention of the Lowy's is/was to have an airworthy Mirage as part of their collection. I might just be dreaming, ...... but it's a nice thought, nonetheless.
21. Here's something else to kick the history/nostalgia category along again. (are you all too young out there? .. or maybe I'm just too b****y old!) Don't answer that! Now: The WW2 Jeep fits nicely through the cargo doors of a C47 .. BUT .... was the Jeep sized so as to suit the C47 door width, or was the C47 door width made to suit the Jeep? [or maybe - it was nothing more than a serendipitous coincidence?]
22. Sixties - my 'puter monitor has just taken on a nice shade of green: envy green. You lucky, lucky fellow - and I just love that starter pedal!
23. So given the last dated photograph of it (1987), it's a moot point as to whether she stil exists..? Gawd, it's so sad to see once beautiful aircraft rotting away like that. :frown:
24. Ah so - but has my memory done me a disservice in suggesting that the Viscount's noise level was greater than the Friendship? If not, why not, I wonder..... same engines, same compressor/turbine ....
25. Chris & I will be recovering (physically and financially..) from the High wheeler rally held at Cowra last week. Maybe head up to Mallala or Collingrove for the Easter Historic race car stuff that happens here each year. Safe travels, everyone! Attached: the Highwheelers at Iandra "castle" on the Tuesday of the rally.
