  1. Not being picky, but last time i was at Christmas Island, it was in the Indian ocean. You possibly could've done it with floats, and met one of the trawler motherships.
  2. G'day Wayne, There was an instructor at Rainbow Beach who had a Drifter. I believe that he has dissappeared (with my cash for a 1/2 share in a drifter) but the other instuctor still lives there as far as I know. I've been out of the loop too long but I can look up the requirements for a training aircraft if you like. Rainbow is a great place to fly, just have too watch out for the para-gliders and hang gliders around the blow. Cheers Engineer
  3. YES, YES, YES!!!!! I see what you mean Doug, Undercarrige Failure????
  4. Not the most intelligent comment to make..... Sounds like my jealous wife!!!!:black_eye:
  5. Awesome post Wayne, makes me want to call Farri and see if he wants to have a fly this weekend, great stuff mate. Congrats Bolero on your first solo mate!!!!!!! may it be the first of many, many more to come!!!!! Loving it, Engineer
  6. That wouldn't be fun in the wet season up here.... absolutley shocking trait to have to tolerate. They used to have to start the Garrets with a remote power pack in Bamaga, Makes you wonder why any business would put up with them, being such a can of worms.
  7. Can anyone tell me if CASA and ASA are managed under DOTARS (dept. of transport and regional services) or are they managed under another entity?
  8. Your signature is very truthful facthunter;)
  9. Ah yes, the flying cigars. Unfortunately, a good friend of mine was lost in the Lockhart River tragedy in one of those.:yin_yan: RIP Rob Brady Without starting a fight, I don't wish to discuss the issues there, but they seemed a nice aircraft. Mac still have a few running up here. I never knew they had a weight gain issue though:laugh:
  10. But what about the fuel burn?
  11. CASA would get a small management board with full delegation to manage the authority and Labor would separate regulatory reform from compliance and enforcement. Labor would ensure that all regulatory functions were removed from Airservices but fire fighting and control towers would not be contracted out. The politicisation of airspace reform and its capture by "the personal agendas of powerful individuals" would not continue under Labor. I wonder if they are referring to a certain "Mr Smith";) who contributed alot of funding in the last election for John Andersons campain, and then "paddled his own canoe" pushing John to get his way?:pig:
  12. Have you bought any H.P.Drifter? They look like a great addition for the 727 archives!!!;)
  13. have a look at the burn rate, remember it is measured in gallons!!!! and I was worried about fuel burn in a Drifter!?!?!;)
  14. Sorry you didn't find it as Impressive as I did mate, I really thought it was a great shot of the twatter!!! Me? I'm a fleet manager for one of the Cape York tour companies, We were chartering the Twin Otter for our Scenic work for BAM-HID-BAM. Unfortunately Regional Aviation (Hevi-lift PNG) have removed the otters, so now we use Barrier Aviations Islanders (piston), wow, they are loud!!!! I was first amazed by the Twin Otters whilst landing on Lady Elliot Island, and from all reports, they can really take a pounding. Anyway, thats me.
  15. Impressive, but not for me!!!!! Amazing to see people push the boundries, I wonder how long until they get hit with heaps of regulations?!?!?!
  16. Sorry fellas, try this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErgpJzcAS6s Rick, you were right and there is no need to apologise. Deskpilot, there was a copyright problem, has been happening alot since google bought it out. sorry about the stuff up, 727engineer
  17. It is great to see that manners still exist in the wonderful world of Rec aviation. There was an incident the other day at CNS where some GA private wouldn't talk to the tower and Jetstar had to do a go around just to "keep it safe", He was stopped on the apron just before the Runway by a security vehicle, and thought that he didn't have to talk to control??!!??? When they asked him where he was turning after take off, he was very vague and didn't seem to want to divulge any communication at all. I believe that it is a great responsibility to those around you to let them know what you are doing in a high traffic area, whether you have to or not, but those (like us) who are responsible and have good manners will keep an eye out, and an ear for what it is worth. 727engineer
  18. How good is your engine out landing ability? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XetJqOvsZuE Interesting 1/2 circuit, hope he wasn't hurt......
  19. Welcome on board mate, great to see another North Qlder on site. Hopefully one day we can all have a social day!!!!!!

    Hey

Hey Jordy, have you posted any photos of your Drifter yet mate? I'd love to see it, sounds like your really enjoying it .;)
  21. I think it's the starboard side main gear Farri ;)
  22. Well, the legend lives..... it is nice to see the trusty struts are back. has anyone had the opportunity to compare the strut braced with say Mr Wayne Fisher's Aircraft? The Fisher looks like it's a good aircraft, and I like the $22,000 engine inclusive part. Helps limited budget folk like me get into the air easier. Anyhow, lets hope the SB drifter makes a comeback!!!!
  23. Have you ever given Model aircraft engines a though? I know it sounds ridiculous but have a look at this page http://au.babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?trurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.funsonic.de%2F&lp=de_en&.intl=au&fr=yfp-t-501 And click the link at the bottom of the page to watch the video, You could make a nice multi engine experimental with these. I've seen stranger things done!!!! 727engineer
  24. Thanks Mathew & Farri, Farri mate, I would love to go flying with you. I'll even pay for fuel and other stuff if you want!!!! Thank you kindly for the offer. Mathew mate, do you have any contact details for the guy in Innisfail?? I'll try to get a hold of the bloke in Atherton first, but I prefer 3 axis:radioactive: Farri will understand the feeling of pushing the throttle with you left hand and pulling back on the stick in the drifter....absolutely fantastic, awesome:star: They are a light aircraft onto themselves and don't really have a peer IMO, but then I haven't flown for a long time and there are possibly similar aircraft out there now.
