  1. There you go Captain. Really I think everyone should try to accept RA is finished. Why, because of the law suit and the ones that follow will give RA no choice but to file for bankruptsy. Its pretty obvious CASA audited RA because of the law suit and found a complete mess which tells me they will probably lose. Then all the other widows out there will jump on the band wagon leaving RA no choice. The Board and management of RA are part timers really using RA as a stepping stone for something better,really what did you expect. RA isnt paying all that much to keep anyone who knows there stuff and would want whats best for the organisation. We live in a world of greed and selfishness peoples. If I owned a aircraft id be registering it GA and getting a GA licence. If you want to keep flying. Id be surprised if RA is still around in 6 months to a year.

I think the public should be able to find out accident causes so people can learn from others mistakes, or may use a LAME instead of reading some books or using hear-say and doing specialised work on their aircraft that might affect the airworthyness of the aircraft just to save a few bucks. All our rules and regs were payed for in blood so I dont understand why RA doesnt do the same as CASA safety magazine and make public when appropiate the findings. If someone reads something and changes their mind and it saves their life then its a successfull outcome. Education is a good thing, RA cone of silence on this and other internal issues really is unnecessary in my opinion.
  4. You will need a PPL for more then 1 passenger. If your interested in buying a plane get it before training and pay for the instructer only which should save a few bucks, Maybe ? If it was me id get a 3 seater and aerobatic like the Fugi so you can have a cruiser for journeys and a aerobatic plane for the afterwork excitement.
  5. Flying in Perth, Superlight Aircraft Club at Bindoon has just about everything.(only fly on weekends due to Millitary Airspace). You Have microlights and 3 axis at Whitegum Farm at York You have the Ultralight Flyers club at Callingri ( Drifters. Rag And Tube) again in Millitary airspace. Western Microlight Club in Bunbury. There the main ones.
  6. Yeah i saw that one before. All they say is they supplied GPS results to RA Investigators,not an actual finding. There must be something available as RA have been responseable for recreational accident investigations for years but I am unable to find conclusion reports.
  7. Does anyone know how to find outcomes from RA investigated accidents. The actual one im wondering about was a fatality in Dec 2007 from Bindoon 2 people in a Sportstar 24-4148. Some say the wing came off,some say the prop came off. Anyone know more ?

  9. It is a worry about RA and how the organisation is being run. When you consider that we are only allowed to fly while RA is alive because we have a pilot certificate,not a licence so if you discontinue your membership you lose your right to fly as well as most people in RA positions are part time employees or have other interests which take up alot of their time so they cannot dedicate their time to RA issues and to ensure everything is correct. That includes all the people in high level positions,as well as this law suit at the moment and the others who are waiting to sue after seeing what happens with the law suit in question might mean that a CASA recreational licence and GA registered aircraft a safer option perhaps.   10. From what I understand from another another site is that CASA did an audit on RA and found the paperwork incorrect or incomplete on LSA which have been imported from overseas. RA was told to get this sorted before another CASA audit 2 months later. RA has'nt been able to show the results CASA wanted so CASA has shut RA down untill all this mess is sorted. Some of the LSA imported are not to Australian Factory built standard and other manufactures have bought aircraft over in kit form which have been built in Australia by the distributer and sold as a factory built aircraft. Aparently this is illegal, they must come over factory built. From what i have read this is a massive stuff up with the paper work and the understanding of what is factory built and what is not and CASA cannot turn a blind eye. Untill the paper work is up to speed and the rogue aircrafts are discovered i suppose the fleet will remain grounded.

  12. Very lucky boy. Nothing but tiger country all around there,as well as flying low due to controlled airspace. Pretty scary 80km trip till you get to York and paddocks hey.

I would be calling Jabiru,sending the engine to them for a complete strip and inspection (at their cost) and they can report to you whether the engine failed due to incorrect maintanence or other reasons. Only then will you know the reason for the failure. It is a worry why these engines ar'nt making 400 hours,most second hand planes for sale have a new engine fitted at some stage. Does'nt look good for Jabiru, but if the aircraft is maintained incorrectly by the owner then one could understand. I know that this is not the case for you because you must use a lame. I guess the only way you will find out if your engine is being maintained correctly is if you have Jabiru do the strip down and report. Chris

  15. Well how do all the council,CALM,Station strips get away with it. White crosses, hmm, what if you damage your aeroplane at your own strip, your in hospital, the assesor see's white crosses that would = no payout I would imagine. Probably not a good idea.

  17. One thing I learnt is read, understand and most importantly "believe" the Area Forecast. I understand CASA has a DVD out on weather. Has anyone viewed this? I would love to see a dvd on different clouds and weather systems that is instructional.ie with this type of cloud this spot here and here will be mod to sev turbulance. rather then learning through experience. Same goes with mechanial turbulance off mountains etc How high over hills or mountains to be out of the turbulance. Then you see the glider guys using the lift off terrain and the Morning Glory cloud in Queensland they chase every year. I look at the footage of this in amazement and some fear due to a lack of understanding on where the lifting air is to where the danger on the lee side starts. So many things to know and understand but no video footage on the subject. Unless someone knows different.
  18. Correct me if I'm wrong but is'nt any additional information, circuit direction, landing direction due to terrain or noise listed in ERSA. I dont know of any RPT airstrips that ar'nt listed in ERSA.
  19. Wind was calm and not a cloud in the sky today in Perth. Expect the same tomorrow.
  20. I was there with family 3 months ago. There is a pub in the same carpark as the museum that has great meals and cold beers. You blokes should meet there. When you drive in past the spitty gate guardian continue into the carpark and its to the right. Im in Perth now but fly back to Hedland on Sunday so I'll have to go on the next one.

You made a good point about changing instructors, if it does'nt feel right it probably is'nt right.Changing instructors could be all that is needed to restore confidence in your flying abilities,worked for me early in my training and has made me a more confident and safer pilot. Landing in turbulance and or with rotors off trees and hangers less flap to no flap is the best way for me especially in a crosswind,plus 5kts extra speed. My normal approach is 70 kts. Quoted from the book: In turbulent conditions,it is advisable to carry a few extra knots on approach to give you better controllability. A flapless approach should be considered, since it will make the aeroplane more responsive to a power increase due to the lower drag. End Quote. Plus with less flap, less wing area for the gusting wind to grab onto stabilizing the approach, less fighting the aeroplane, less pilot stress, better approach= better landing. Having flown both the 160 and the 230 the 230 wins the best jabiru to fly. Why? More power, better climb, faster cruise + with the bigger wings more stable in the bad air. This is what I have found.
  22. Facthunter and Turbo have hit the nail on the head in regard to why straight in approach for the big birds is a good idea.This is how it goes at YPPD. Qantas 737 abc 30 miles inbound for straight in approach runway 32 currently at 10-000 on decent,eta 45. That is usually 10 minutes later so everyone knows 10 minutes in advance the 737's on his way,everyone knows where he is coming from and can manouver to let him land without delay. Captain Qantas will then call 5 mile final for 32, will turn his landing lights on and if you cant see that you should'nt be flying. He will call 3 mile,1 mile and then he's on the ground and out of everyones hair which is a good thing because a 737 is big and fast and I dont like the idea of mixing it with these guys in the circuit for too long.
  23. My approach speed is 70kts. Better to be faster then too slow. You should also vary your flap setting and not just do the same thing all the time. One day your electric flaps may blow a fuse and not work so you need to practice in all landing configurations. In strong crosswind or known mechanical turbulance conditions you want to come in faster and with less to no flaps to limit being blown offcourse or to fall out of the sky close to the ground due to loss of lift from the gusting wind. You can limit float by approach angle, shallower approach less float.
  24. Thats a bit harsh Motzartmerv. If you look at your ERSA for Port Hedland and relise 737's,717's can't land on a 1000m runway so lighter aircraft using 36 would need to allow the RPT to land on the 2500m runway. This is why I asked the question and Youngmic answered it and I thank him for that.
  25. Thanks for that Youngmic,you helped turn the brain over another cog. Obviously if your in circuit for into wind runway and RPT on approach for main crosswind runway, calls 1 mile final you would adjust airspeed to ensure you are not on RPT's runway centerline should they require a go-around. You also mention the sun which is a good point. No guarantees RPT would be able to see any downwind traffic in a go-around, so yeah best plan of attack, make sure your not in their way to start with.
