  1. Same thing, I did the test. It said I passed. I emailed RAA and haven't heard a thing. The whole safety thing is not about safety but about compliance and having people jump through hoops so RAA can keep the lawers and insurance companies happy. So when an accident happens they can say they are not liable. It's not just RAA but everywhere these days; church, state, business all living in fear of being sued. I just wonder how many L1s struggled with the online test, who have built and serviced planes for years while not having a clue about the internet. Like said above, "the rest is fairy floss".... that's a nice way of saying it too!
  2. Perhaps you could sell your plane and buy two Nynja's, one for you and one for me!
  3. Not sure of your logic. I would say it is neither good for those wanting to keep toowoomba airport open if the soil can be removed, nor good for Oakey folk, most of whom support the aviation base and the mine to keep their town alive. Not to mention folks like myself who have had their house on the market for years and have not been able to sell because of the bs the Chronicle and television media have been stirring up. Ironically I work in the media, for the same mob that owns the Chronicle and detest where journalism has gone over the past 3
  4. All one has to do is start rumours that the land is contaminated with something toxic and then the land won't be worth a cracker. We own a house at Oakey and despite the fire supresant condemnation being only one small section of land downstream of Oakey, houses there aren't worth anything.
  5. Hi folks Does any one know of a repairer who will repair a Garmin 296? My unit intermittently throws up a lost aviation data message and then I lose all my Jeppesen data. Talked to a fellow from Garmin and said the internal memory sounds like it is faulty. So does anyone know of a tech who could repair the memory since Garmin no longer service the 296, which by the way I think really stinks. I run Shonkmaps on my 296 and they are stored on the memory stick with my personal waypoints, would be nice if there was a way one could store the Jeppesen aviation data on the memory stick too.
  6. Yes I know about Dave. His wife Sue remarried my wife's uncle but the marriage didn't last. I am a Lutheran Padre.
  7. Thanks for the compliment Kyle. Yes it has been a while between drinks. I'm not full time in ministry at the moment, but have been working in my old trade, as a cameraman, editor, and now photographer, multimedia creator for the local rag in Kingaroy. Hence after editing shooting all day the last thing I usually wanted to do was more editing when I got home. That's why there haven't been too many videos over the last four or so years. Flying not as much as I use to. I was out of action for a while. I had four operations on my head in three years, the last one was Feb 2017 and I had a seizure on the table, so no flying or driving for six months. All well now and back driving and flying. Did some flying between the ops but it got back to about once every month or so. Nevertheless every time I fly I have at least one camera rolling. Old habits die hard, and I have hard drives full of vision of me trolling around the countryside. Do you know Mark Schwenke, he did a bit of gliding and I know him quite well. regards
  8. I finally edited my video. In June 2013 I moved my plane from WA to Qld. I followed a front across and because so got favorable tailwinds. I cruise just under 90Kts but got ground speeds of 105 to 115 Kts because of the south westerly winds behind the front. The only adverse weather was on day three when I caught the front at Port Augusta and had to fly under cloud through a pass in the Flinders Range. Day one Katanning to Esperance to stay with friends. Day two Esperance (Myrup), fuel at Caiguna, Eulca wee break, Nullabor Roadhouse for fuel to Ceduna. Day Three Ceduna to Port Augusta and Mildura for fuel then Temora. Layover day four with friends at Temora. Day Five Temora to Narromine for fuel and then to Steve Hunt's farm near Warialda for lunch and fuel, then home to Kingaroy. All up with favourable winds the first three days the flight took 22 hours and I covered a distance of 2200 nautical miles. Enjoy the video. 9. Thanks I really appreciate you letting me know of this plane!
  10. Beautiful looking machine! Might have to go down to Aldinga for a fly next time I am in Adelaide. When I studied in Adelaide I use to slope soar rc gliders down there with a mate.
  11. Hi I sent you a PM regarding another thread but you never got back to me so I thought you were not interested. However I would love to have a look at it.
  12. Plenty of later models but I suspect that the lighter 7AC Champs have been switched over to the RAA register.
  13. Is it a white 7ACA that was owned by a fellow at Watts Bridge with a Franklin 2 cylinder engine in it?
  14. Hi I looking for the names numbers and locations of folk who own Aeronca Champion 7AC aircraft. There don't seem to be all that many in Australia. I would love to go for a fly in one and eventually own one some day. To feed this addiction I need to exhaust avenues in Australia before looking OS and importing, some time in the distant future when my wife has a weak moment and let's me indulge in my lust for a 1946 airborne lady. If you know what I mean.
  15. Hi I've never heard of the 180 degree circuit. Pardon my ignorance, what is it? When learnng to fly or in an unfamiliar type, glancing at the ASI without becoming fixated on it is healthy. But when you know your plane glancing and feeling go hand in hand. When I learnt to fly and still do on gusty days, is to come over the fence much faster than on calm sedate days. When it's really rough even foregoing the final stage (full) flap. That's what I was taught and seems to work best for me.
  16. Thanks for that folks. I have tie downs screws etc. but in the event of a storm it would be nice to stick the plane indoors. The weather should be not too bad next week. I use to work down in the Northern Rivers as a News Cameraman for years. A fellow who lived at Evans worked for the ABC had a plane. Haldon Boyd was his name, perhaps he is still around. I know he was once involved with the annual flyin down there. As as news cameraman have driven on the runway and also videoed an unfortunate CAC Boomerang or Wirraway (can't remember) that hooked its tailwheel on the fence when landing. Not a good outcome.
  17. Hi folks Will be down at Evans Head for a couple of days soon. Any locals to the area know of if there are tie down points anywhere or if the the desert weather we are experiencing miraculously changes into stormy weather if there is a kind soul that might allow me to share a hangar... if the need arises? Puk

  19. As well as being a padre I was a TV news cameraman in a past life, now video/photography is a hobby, so it would be good to shoot and cut some vision together of the old girl. The pic of VH-JCP over the water is a beautiful shot. It has been my screen saver on many occasions over the years.
  20. It would be nice to cross paths with it and it's owners one day. Perhaps at a flyin or the like.
  21. What is the little propeller out on the wing? Is it a pump for something?
  22. Hey thanks for this. Looks like I might need to take a day trip to Boonah
