  1. Alan, I've just discovered this thread. I'm researching various threads as I'm coming from a long way behind. I intend to continue with the thread until the end as I'm finding it very interesting. I would like to get involved in the project, I want my own plane and this ticks a lot of boxes. I don't know how to PM anyone, butvI definitely want to follow the development. Regards, Mike
  2. Brett, Do you have any information you could share regarding the Aerovee engine. From the fact you plan to build a Sonex, I expect it must have been at least reasonable. I'm right at the start of my journey, taking lessons and working out what to build or buy. My inspiration came from visiting the Oshkosh Airventure this year. Seeing the 7 day wonder come together and later seeing the Sonex stand including the Aerovee and of course the Subsonex among other sights was quite a revelation. Until Oshkosh and the LSA aircraft exhibited, aviation for me was being carried as freight around the country and visiting avaition museums. Now I suppose the bug has bit. Regards, Mike.
  3. This would be the Wyex Jan Egg "improved" I read about it on one of the American forums. There was a lot of anger about this machine in that particular thread. I suggest it will be somewhere in a Sonex forum. Mr Monnett is not amused. You would need to read it in its entirity to get the gist. Definitely not pretty. After he had realy loused up the handling he came on asking how to put the Genie back in the bottle. The whole sequence is almost parallel to the NTSB report on the crashed RV10. One thing I want to clarify is the "plane" (or remains of one) isn't a Viking product, it is a heavily modified Sonex. The problem started with a weight and balance issue after the engine transplant. From there it was all Homer Simpson rather than Bush Mechanic.
  4. Summer blend could be a real problem. I've seen the result when it was supplied to a contractor in winter, poor bugger couldn't start his Grader until after 10.00 am. It was Mobil fuel remeniscent of the Avgas debacle.
  5. Probably more wannabe. I'm teaching myself various peripheral skills such as metal casting, machining etc. Need to retire to have the time, but if I do that I mightn't be able to afford "Hairyplains"
  6. One thing I notice on this forum is, when someone asks for assistance the original poster seldom provides feedback to the people offering assistance detailing what was actually found. Hopefully this thread will not end this way, but by now I would expect that an accurate diagnosis and a detailed report should be available.
  7. I've had my first 5 lessons toward my RPL via the GA school in Mackay.
