  1. Not so long back I was involved with a coronial inquest involving 2 fatalities in a 19 registered drifter. Their families council tried very hard to prove that the aircraft was at fault, (wich it wasn't) Raaus representives St and zt (there initials) did very little to convince them otherwise. and the outcome? The coroners recommendation was that Raaus aircraft should have regular inspections to prove air worthiness by qualified persons. Now in order to do this one needs to have a bench mark/syllabise to address such issues that arise from modification/maintenance, seems to me Marap will be the perfect instrument.
  2. How will Marap be enforced/policed? Simple, bi annual inspections.... Oh joy!!
  3. Yes, it is about 2.200 ml. I will admit that I have been too lazy to top up as it was only a local flight. I am then surprised to find that it did not appear to use oil during that sortie.
  4. It has force fed distributors due to a bush failure at around 220 hrs, rockers replaced with .05 larger oil holes as abnormal wear was detected. Strangely tappets remained a constant and adjustment a rare requirement. I have higher oil consumption when cruising, I do have cool temps. No1 around 97 through to no 4 being 126. And oil hovering 75. Felt this cold state maybe cause of consumption, I run her 2800 rpm and have original jetting. Another odd thing is that it never needs choke. Have started in sub temps no problems (unlike my last 2200) and no leak down test. But will start as it is getting up in hours
  5. Sorry I did not ask, it was a 230 though. My 2200 solid lifter oil use is about 1/4 dipstick for every 1.5 hours, have been told that is excessive but has been that way since install 2001 with around 678 hours thus far
  6. I had a conversation with a casa rep at a flyin over Christmas. I was sure surprised to hear him say that he loved his jabiru, and no it's not for sale. This fellow is in the new sports division working with lee..
  7. Old post I know, When I obtained my LL from Raaus it was because I flew out of private airstrips wich often included steep landing areas, this requires a much different techneque than those used in a standard circuit. Such as height and approach... I do not consider myself as a cowboy, And am no longer afraid of low level manoeuvres any longer as I gained a valuable skill along with a better understanding of consequence. I am guessing that the powers to be think that we ALL will become misfits after we undertake such training. How do we become better trained if our CFI's are hamstrung? Personally I think this type of training is just as important as spin recovery, it just may save 1 or 2 lives.
  8. Rotax 912 have tbo 2000 hours or 10 years, which ever comes first. Seems we both exceed those limits in years, mine is s/n 738.
  9. I have been watching this thread for a while. It seems to me that what has emerged in all this is, that casa has taken some 20 years to claim jabiru engines are not safe.. Really? If casa audit was only compiled using only recent 12 months worth of statistics of engine failures, then that should reflect on current engines and not engines in service 12 years or more such as mine. especially experimental wich are most likely modified.. If casa had done its home work all would be not doom and gloom for jabiru, but offered a way out to improve its reliability.
  10. Oops sorry about that. Posted in through bolts not as new thread. From where I sit with all the consumer complaints aside,, is Casa targeting just jabiru or is it Raaus? Is public safety at risk because of my jab engine? I think not.. If aircraft are flowen accordingly no risk to public should occur. I strongly feel that our flying privileges are at serious risk here as Most are aware that 19 Cateroy aircraft can be powered from any propollsion unit. Safety issues with certified power plant I can understand. So why is lee ungerman bundling up as one hopeless case?
