  1. The issue I had was that the legs were to wide to fit inside clamp. So had to be touched up to fit, onced clamped up they appeared to sit well in clamp once secured. So, I just left them. I guess the idea of flocking the saddle was to ensure full distribution over the width of leg, but mine appear ok
  2. No, I just used flap disc on sides to ensure the leg sat inside saddle. Not sure what flocking saddles in would achieve as they firmly hold leg in place, I understood flocking axle in place once alignment was done. There was no flock on my saddles but was evidence on my axles. I figured the inboard rubber mount was allowed to flex and having rubber on top of the leg at saddle would also compress to a degree to absorb arrivals. I can see heavy arrivals flexing leg forward, but the result will stretching aft saddle bolt.
  3. The way I understand it, some use masking tape plied up to get the desired setting, you then lightly flock the stub axle in place. The alloy shim can be quickly fashioned and won't require flocking in my view.
  4. Glad to help a drifter driver, fading is not a good sign, would most definatly get qualified person to check out fabric. Some including myself have coated the fabric with acrylic or 2 PAC paint to slow the deteriation rate.
  5. I have been using Sakura on my 2200. Made in Indonesia I think. Found the only noticeable difference was the base of the filter bigger that ryco. Still fitted ok but a bit tight due to my air ducts.
  6. You only need to replace wires if rusty and 3 or more broken strands. They usually break at the rust spots, if in good nick tighten the wires by undoing an end and twist to shorten or lengthen, this is how you fine tune trim of air craft. Up on top of king post there should be slide adjusters on the landing wires to tension wing.
  7. The original builder machined a stainless washer marked with 0deg over one hole 1/2 over next 1 and 1 1/2 last hole, the washer looks like a slice of cheese if you get my meaning. I did not flock it as I see no reason to. The idea of just rotating the shim to alter the camber proved simple yet effective. One wonders why jab didn't come up with the idea
  8. Yes the legs were the same in every aspect, i only had to use flap disk on sides of legs to allow fitting of saddles (they were not squared). i added 1.1/2 deg negative camber and 1/2 to 1 deg toe in. Good idea about cutting legs, will do that next time at hangar and post photo if interested.
  9. Installed new under cart today, handles like new. I thought the sloppy x wind take offs and landings was due to my aging, But today the old girl proved it was in fact those flexing legs as she tracked true and predictable in x wind.
  10. Glad to hear that they are still available, are they exspensive? After a closer look today I found no cracks showing but have concluded that internally they have delaminated as I was able to deflect heal toe by hand about 10 mm... so my legs are not only flexing but twisting same time
  11. My old girl is a 1999 kit finished 2001. When looking front on to a/c you can see the bow just above axles to around three parts up the legs, both sides are identical with no sight of delamination. A thought was to wrap that area with Kevlar
  12. The landing gear on my sp/Lsa are getting a bit soft, even after lifting wing they no longer kick the wheels back under. Any ideas on how to stiffin them up? Or has any one got a set they wish to sell. I've not contacted jabiru as yet so I'm not even sure that they would be still available. I have replaced the u/c bolts a year or so back and no issues were found, hot days, age and at mtow appaers to be taking its toll. Thanks Russell
  13. The 30 knot westerly predicted by windyty is going to be a pain, swings north 35kt late Sunday. Not sure how many of us on the north coast nsw will be able to make it
  14. Unfortunately councils in nsw whom operate ALAs have been instructed by there insurer to put in place a ten million public liability requirement on all aircraft operating on there assets. Ra-Aus only had 5 million at the time, wisely they increased it to ten million when they learnt of councils requirement. A much cheaper premium was gained as a group, and not as individuals.
  15. three from casino, shame organizers postponed due to bad weather last year and re scheduled for later date, as that often turns out in disaster because many of us slaves whom have to work cant shuffle things about.
  16. Evans head does not require radio, the display line is set 210 meters from the crowd line and runs north south. The marshals are relied on to scan the skies for such an incursion. The CASA was there and spoke to pilot of said drifter, he's still flying!! I have more safety concerns with string departures mixing it with various performance air craft and intersection departures,,, there was another incident with the mustang joining mid x wind an finds an out bound air craft departing mid field straight at him. I find those moments more concerning and a radio would not have fixed the near dissarster over the crowd.
  17. My experience with them was Wayne fisher solution worked best. He fashioned a sock of type that slipped over the standard mike sock. It was a sold looking foam bicycle handle grip cut to size and a piece glued on one end so it looked like a mini stubbie cooler, a hole about 1/8-1/4 inch was formed and slid over with hole centred on mike and small zip tie used to fix in place, Then a loose piece of foam ( often sourced from a Simpson cloths dryer filter) was stuffed in the hole with a chunk of it protruding the new styled wind sock.
  18. I switch to area frequency long before my arrival at a flyin to gain situational awareness of pretty much what's happening and try to position for an un eventful arrival. If all is quite I must on the wrong frequency as it is a flyin you'd expect traffic. The drifter at great eastern flyin did in (my view) did not create a huge problem as air display pilot were advised on a discreet frequency of his presents and the display was halted. It was the public whom were not happy that the mustang cut short his display but no harm really done.
  19. Paying $9-40 landing fee to purchase 30-40 litres of avgas for my little bug squasher is painful. I would run mogas if it were more dependable. I've been told carrying jerry cans onto airfield and filling up to take home is not permitted, so I guess I have to keep paying my $9.40 for an aircraft with max 60 liter fuel capacity and a mtow similar to my lawn mower.
  20. My sp has differential brakes. They are heel operated, at first I was sceptical about the arrangement and planed to remove them after I purchased her. Not now as I have come used to them, directional control on touch down is where they excell. Only down side is no park brake..
  21. A point here also is that insurance companies will baulk at 19 cat and what's worse find ways out of paying claims, Don't let the CASA distroy RAAUS the way it did GA, if you feel annual inspection will benefit you then fine. Just do it, you shouldn't need it to be made compulsory. In my view we are under serious threat of over regulation and am sure that the RAAUS executive doing its best to protect our privileges..
  22. Yes the coroner was well aware of 19 rego privilege. His concern was that a person could modify that aircraft without regulation, in this case it was the 2 spectrum aviation long ponds that were joined to reassemble a canoe. It was argued that whilst the aircraft was spiralling could the mod have caused the aircraft become uncontrollable?
  23. Agreed, perhaps now that the CASA has finished the audit of Raaus administration it's now going to audit the Raaus fleet. Could be more pain on the way, another 6 months out of the air waiting for technicians to TSO 4000 or so alti meters etc..
