  1. I have a 'Proudly Australian Made' air compressor - Peerless brand. They don't mention that it has a Chinese-sourced compressor.. Ran less than 20 hours before being unable to deliver more than around 35 psi. Went looking for the problem: the 1/4" UNC head bolts - marked as Grade 8 - pulled their threads at around 4 ft/lb. Cheese quality. Replaced them with reliable Grade 8s torqued to about 12t/lbs and immediately it went to 110 psi no problems. Have several thousand hours on it now with no problems.

Hope this is all my Toolex needs to bring it around! It has only riveted one airframe and now I can't get 40psi to spray paint.

  2. Of course, you have to sell to realize the capital gain.In the meantime, you have to appreciate the lifestyle and not worry too much about getting less than the minimum wage for a whole lot more work.

And both these aspects make it next to impossible for our young farmers to get a start, so they are lost to trades or the mines.

  3. I was watching him on Ozrunways coming home and saw him doing orbits over yours and reg's place..texted him and thats what he was doing....rubbing it in hahahahaha

Well the rub was extremely effective, I was working outside and got the full show, gave me plenty of time to be envious.

  4. Those PTT mounts look like the goods! Isn't it a pity ICP don't include a couple in the kit instead of each builder having to spend three quarters of an hour turning them on the lathe! Seems to me it would be very efficient to mould them like the rudder bar and throttle bar mounts.

  5. The extended baggage area was developed for here in OZ I believe Mike also the 4 tanks setup. This is what drove the development. Reg Brost from Aerokits here had a lot to do with it...even the new sliding seats they have in the new versions

He also designed the rudder extension that they have adopted in the tail dragger version, as I mentioned previously, we talked about it on the phone one night and about two days later when I turned up over there, he had the parts for the version 2.0 lying on the bench ready to install. His version had more stiffeners in the rear of the fin to support the extra load but when I bought the factory version for my kit it was much simpler, modifying only the top of the rudder.

  6. Have the Savs always used bucket seats? Just asking as the 701 "seats" are built into the fuselage (see attached pic - not mine) with some form of padding/fitted cushions over them.

My kit is a July 2013 issue and it still had near identical to yours, I can't remember if it was the next batch of kits or the batch after that the adjustable bucket seats were introduced. I assumed the new seats were this type, but looking more closely at the photo they don't have the cut out in the middle for the twin joysticks like the bucket seats do, so now I am thinking they are just an upmarket flat cushion for the old style seats like you have. They always did have a leather seat option at considerable increased cost, to make them more acceptable to European car drivers I guess.

Either way there would have to be some sort of internal frame to support that head rest or it would just flop down after a short time.

  7. The fabricated aluminium ones were a marvellous computer design and real fun to build but were always way too heavy, these look potentially a lot lighter, and maybe not so constrictive to a broader pilot than the little bucket seats. I am not is a rush to retrofit adjustable seats to mine, they seat the pilot higher in the cockpit and at 6'3" I need all the headroom I can have. The headset brushes on the cabin frame sometimes as it is.

  8. Why are you retrofitting it instead of building it along as you go? There is no substitute for having a bucket with about 400 clecoes and keep clecoing it up until everything fits then rivet it up. About three times it will be a bit hard to reach something and then you need a really compact hand rivet gun.

  9. I have read mention that sometimes the aileron pivots (in the fuselage) do not line up correctly with the ailerons. Is this a usual problem?

The pivot in a VG/XL is a bolted plate with a bolt welded in the middle which doesn't line up with the hangers on the wing. You have an S model which is much improved in this area of the design, so don't fret and get on with it.

  10. All works perfectly and it fits

The bad news is that the little plate with the four rivets and the bolt through the middle doesn't go there. It's bolt usually has to be moved any where up to half way out to one of the mounting rivet to line up with the flaperon pivot brackets on the wing when you get the wings on.

  11. Does anyone fit this. Apart from a cigarette lighter slash charger what else goes in it and is it relevant in 2016.Lyndon

I fitted it much to Reg's disgust. I plan to mount my USB ports and 12 volt outlet in it along with a phone mount to hold my phone on the charger.

  12. I would suggest there must be enough adjustment to center the stick and still get your set values.

As long as you are careful to set the arm centred in the torque tube before you drill the hole. You can only drill from above and you have to get the drill to come straight out the lower hole in the boss on the arm. Take care.
