  1. I got to combine my love for flying and film making with this documentary about Ultralights that I directed while attending the Vancouver Film School back in 1990. It was shot on their Video 8 equipment, and looks like it too! :) But it did get me my first video job making a promo video for the Beaver Ultralight, which you can see here: --- Watch Now!

  3. Bob built this EZ Rizer in 1980 and made the first flight on Jan 1, 1981 witnessed by John Story and Bob Jones in Krum, Texas. It is more fun per flying hour than anything I know of at 1 gallon/hour. --- Watch Now!
  4. This was only our third trip to this particular island. We had eight nights planned here before heading to the other islands. We wanted to do some things that were more exciting than we had previously. And this ultralight flight fit the bill!We originally contacted another company -- which is highly praised in a famous travel guide for this island -- that does this same type of tour. However strangely enough, the owner called us back on my cellphone the day before our scheduled flight to say that he had to cancel the reservation. He apologized and said it was "just one of those things".Although disappointed, we were not going to let this stop us.We had seen an advertisement in "101 Things to Do" -- Kaua'i edition -- and decided to contact them. They had openings and we booked a 60-minute flight. For insurance and FAA purposes, it is called a training flight. You are actually taught the basics of ultralight flying and it is up to you on just how much you want to learn (I actually got to control the craft several times while in flight). On the day of our flight, we were talked into a more expensive 90-minute flight that spent more time down inside and around Kalalau Valley. We jumped at it! And, yes, it was a very smart decision because we really found it interesting. At $270 per person, it was a little steep, but it was well worth it.Our flight started at Port Allen Airport. We flew over Waimea Town and then over Waimea Canyon. We got a bird's-eye view of the famous Waimea Canyon Lookout -- a very neat perspective. We went out over the water near Honopu Valley for a glorious view of N? Pali and then came back inland deep into Kalalau Valley. Then it was back out along N? Pali Coast. We skirted the coastline to Polihale, buzzed 20 feet off the deck of Barking Sands Beach, and then skirted the coast back to the airport. This was a 90-minute flight that I will never forget!I took over 100 photos while on the flight. I have used most of them in this video, which has the stills in motion and set to classical music.Ref:We flew with Aero Trek Hawai'i (formerly Ultralight Adventures Kaua'i). The website is: www.ultralightkauai.com.To see higher resolution stills used in this video, go here: http://bluecollar.myphotoalbum.com/albums.phpNote: We plan on doing this again during humpback season because we feel that the aerial view of the whales would be very intriguing. --- Watch Now!

  8. Scratch Built!. Not finding a realistic one for sale, I made my own... www.micro-flight.comI started making RC trikes back in the 80s. when I could not find one that was up to my standards. I wanted more precision in control, than the typical delta Rogallo wing, weight shift ones allow, and typical also of most 2 channel delta wing toys. So I designed my own "precision flight control system", by studying Falcons and Condors. I was able to make it so light that thew whole ultralight trike model is only 6-7 ounces! including NiCad/NIMH battery, this was back in 2002, when I first made the model public in RC GROUPS.In 2006 I used Lithium Ion cells and Today I fly the same model with Lipols. This model is very realistic in flight and control is perfect!, as can be seen in the video. For added realism, I've added a working pilot.THhis model is such a pleasure to fly and so easy with the MIA Condor Control System that I developed. --- Watch Now!

  22. There was a study done in the US some years ago into visibility of colours on motorcycles to see what the best colours were to avoid a collision and the results were as follows, in the daylight of course Best=Orange(who would use that colour I don't know:laugh:) Average=White, blue, green and different fluro colours WORST=Yellow. Apparently there the way the human eyes looks around and naturally sees the colours that occur in nature ie green trees, blue skies etc is the same way it sees yellow so we naturally don't see it stand out against other colours unless focused on it. The only situation where yellow was clearly spotted was against a white background ie Clouds and Fog
