  1. Hey Guys, my 1st solo was done and dusted today and I'm now looking forward to spending more time on my own up there.
  2. Being your first trip like that you would have been a little nervous I would think, so you may not have enjoyed it as much as you will when you have more experience. But it must be a great feeling to have done it. Well done Watto. I'm looking forward to the day when I can head off to somewhere that I want to go.
  3. It sounds like you are "coming on well". Well done.
  4. Congratulations Brett I'm excited for you, well done.
  5. YAAHHOOOO.!!!!! Good one Brett..... Congratulations!!!!
  6. How did you go Brett? Were the conditions kind to you? Come on mate I've been hanging out for some news. i_dunno
  7. Hey Jimbo, I'm booked in for the next lesson wednesday but I might not be able to afford to go as we picked up that 0-235 Lycoming and the full instrumentation today. and bought that lease at Watts Bridge for the Hanger/Chalet that is advertised on this site, and unless I can get paid for a job by wednesday I wont be flying.
  8. Wow that's a nice looking aircraft. Good luck on your solo mate, I hope the conditions are kind for you on Monday and you are able to do it.
  9. Good on you Merk, as I only have a total 7.5 hrs up I know what you are feeling. But as each lesson comes and goes it seem to get easier but not less stressfull. Good luck with your lessons.
  10. Thanks Mike, It is a challenge but I believe I'm making progress and I'm looking forward to the day I can go flying for some enjoyment instead of having to spend 100% of the time concentrating.
  11. Inexperience. It's a tail dragger, he/she should have had the wheel/stick back in their guts holding the tail down the whole time it was on the ground. If it's tail wheel steer it allows steer ability plus the angle of attack on the wings gives more drag which equates to to a braking affect, plus if the elevator is holding the tail down it allows more efficient braking. You can see by the video the only time the elevator moved up to it's maximum travel was when the plane was doing a nose dive. (Now as I have only 7.5 hours up if I'm not 100% correct with my assessment here please let me know as I don't want to fail my exam.)
  12. Tell her congratulations from us. Not only did she get you both there and back safe, she also managed to restrain her pax. Well done she sounds like she is captain material.
  13. A blog of your adventures sounds great watto. How is your own strip going? Is it serviceable yet?
  14. I'm pleased there are others out there in the same boat as me. I have been concerned about the studies and the exams. But I am going ok otherwise, 7.5 hours up now and the instructor has told me the next lesson could be my day, here's hoping anyway. You and I are about in the same area of our training Brett, I have 7.5 hrs and my next lesson could be my solo and as like you, as long as the condition are favourable. 15. Good one Tomo well done. I'm training near Gatton (Bradfield). I've now got 6.4 hrs in a Drifter and as my first one was only three weeks ago I can still remember it well. Bob My Blog Retired Racer - spreading his wings!
  16. Congrat's Drizz well done Iv'e got 5.3 hours up now so I'm looking forward to that day myself Bob
  17. I've been involved in motor racing for a lot of years and the only personal accident insurance that covered you twenty four seven that included motor racing was Combined Insurance and have been around for years, years ago they used to be called Combined American Insurance and 65 yrs is the cut off age for them. If they will cover you for motor racing there is a good chance they will cover you for flying. Bob
  18. Congratulations Ryan well done at 15 you would be the youngest but I'm at the other end of the scale, I'm 67 and I took my first lesson last week and I have 2.7 hrs total at the moment and tomorrow (weather permitting) we will be doing stalls  Bob
  19. Thanks for the response guys, the reason I was asking is because as a kit builder I also wanted to assemble the engine (0-320 Lycoming) but it would not be "certified" if I assembled it.
  20. Iv'e heard that uncertified engined a/c cannot fly in or through controlled air space does anyone know if this is a fact and if any other restrictions apply as well?
  21. Tig is the quickest and if the right preparation in the right conditions are carefully adhered to you will get a good weld that won't suffer from fatigue. Pick a good warm summers day and close up all doors and windows so there is no breeze blowing through because the weld needs to cool slowly, and use oxy or a butane flame to pre-heat the tube a good foot each side of the join to be welded so that when you do the welding the cold tube near the weld won't draw the heat from the welded area so it can cool slowly. And as others have said it is then up to the operator to be able to be able to do a good weld. Bob
  22. A radio station in Australia ran a phone-in competition to find the most embarrassing moment in listener's lives. The final four were: 4th Place While in line at the bank one afternoon, my toddler decided to release some pent-up energy and started to run amuck. I was finally able to grab hold of her after receiving looks of disgust and annoyance from other patrons. I told her that if she didn't start behaving herself, right now, she would be punished. To my horror, she looked me in the eye and said in a voice just as threatening, 'If you don't let me go right now, I will tell Grandma I saw you kissing Daddy's willie last night.' After this enlightening exchange, the silence was deafening. Even the tellers stopped what they were doing. I mustered the last of my dignity and walked out of the bank, with my daughter in tow. The last thing I heard as the door closed behind me were screams of laughter. 3rd Place It was the day before my 18th birthday. I was living at home, but my parents had gone out for the evening, so I invited my girlfriend over for a romantic night alone. As we lay in bed after making love, we heard the telephone ringing downstairs. I suggested to my girlfriend that I give her a piggyback ride down to the phone. Since we didn't want to miss the call, we didn't have time to get dressed. When we got to the bottom of the stairs, the lights suddenly came on as a whole crowd of people yelled 'SURPRISE'. My entire family parents, grand parents, aunts, uncles, cousins as well as my friends, were standing there. My girlfriend and I were frozen on the spot in a state of shock and embarrassment for what seemed like an eternity. Since then, no one in my family has planned any surprise parties. 2nd Place A lady picked up several items at a discount store. When she finally Got up to the checkout, she learned that one of the items had no price tag. The checkout girl got on the public address system, which boomed out across the store for everyone to hear, 'Price check for Tampax supersize.' But it got worse. Someone at the rear of the store apparently misunderstood word 'Tampax' for 'Thumbtacks' , and replied in a business like tone, his voice booming over the same public address system: 'Do you want the kind you push in with your thumb or the kind one you belt in with a hammer. 1st Place. And the winner is . . .. This happened at a major Australian University, during a biology lecture. A professor was discussing the high glucose levels found in semen. A young woman raised her hand and asked, 'If I understand you correctly, you are saying there is as much glucose in male semen as in sugar?' The professor responded, yes, that's correct adding some statistical data. Raising her hand again, the girl asked, 'Then why doesn't it taste sweet?' After a stunned silence, the whole class burst out laughing. The poor girl turned bright red, and as she realised exactly what she had inadvertently said, she picked up her books, and without another word, walked out of the class. However, as she was heading for the door, the professor's reply was a classic. Totally straight faced, he answered her question. 'It doesn't taste sweet because the taste-buds for sweetness are on the tip of your tongue and not in the back of your throat'. __________________
