  1. What is she doing to me??? I just seen this and the video posts. Sorry about the quality of the first flight video. Robyn doing the video on the ground was shaking like a leaf and the little Drift camera in the back of the cockpit obviously didn't want to be a passenger on a first flight as it was shaking worse We had the RV ready for it's first flight when our house and my workshop went under in the January 11 Qld floods. It sat for three months (while we cleaned up the flood mess) before I got a chance to take it for it's first flight. And the rough running was stale fuel gumming up the TBI. Being it's first flight I didn't notice that it was down a little on take off power and it wasn't until I was in the air that it started to run rough (possibly as the RPM's came up).
  2. Hey, that sounds good. Will have to check the calendar.
  3. It was good to meet you Ryan. That's a good looking aircraft your flying. I have a soft spot for the Sportstars and that one is one of the nicest I have seen. How was the wind when you got back to Redcliff? It would have been a gusty x wind I would imagine.
  4. Back in March last year when we registered our RV9a as a two seat. In the formular that RAA used to work out our MTOW. They used 80 kg for each seat.
  5. If you find nothing else Ryan, come for a coffey and chat at Watts Bridge with Robyn and me. Take the #2 taxiway off 21/30, we're down the end on the right hand side in the Chalet/Hangar area. ACEC on the meter box and a yellow RAA registered RV9a in the open hangar. This offer is open to anyone on most weekends (if we are not flying). Cheers
  6. Thanks Guy's. It seems this is the airfield everyone recomends.
  7. Hi Richard, we are just looking into the feasibility of doing a Brisbane Darwin, down the WA coast to Broome and then across the centre back to Brisbane. Depending on how things work out, we may only do Bris-Darwin-Bris. You may not have seen my other post for any suggestions for an airfield near Darwin for a RAA pilot. Any suggestions for that one? Somewhere a hire car could be arranged.
  8. I have not done any research yet, but I thought I would throw it out here to see what people recommend. We would need somewhere where we could arrange a hire car and get fuel.
  9. They are a nice little aircraft. My brother is building one and Kevin Osborne at our local airfield Watts Bridge now has his in the air. Here is a link to the article (with photo's) of his beatifull little aircrafts first flight made by Kev Walters. http://www.wattsbridge.com.au/files/news_bvsac/bvsac1206_june2012.pdf
  10. Bill, you could try asking here. http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/RVs_in_Aus/ And here is a good forum where you may be able to get onto a RV3 project at a very good price that has been started, but the builder lost the interest to carry on building. http://www.vansairforce.com/community/index.php Bob Dennis RV9a (registered RAA)
  11. My wife says I know my place and that is the right seat. Bob & Robyn
  12. Like Dave, JimG and Wayne etc, I was trained by Kev. Lesson four I think it is "circuits", was my first taste of EFATO, and you were told to put it down in a paddock . And just about every take off after that you could expect to have the throttle shut down on you ANYTIME. Kev's training was put into practice for me on the FIRST FLIGHT of our self built RV9a. On climb out the engine started to go off. It seemed to be deteriorating quickly to the point where I was expecting it to expire anytime. Turning back was not given a thought, I was too busy checking paddocks that I believed I could get into as well as trying to rectify the problem and coax the aircraft to a higher altitude. I can tell you, it was a very wide shallow turn onto downwind, while I was still checking paddocks that I could get into. It wasn't till late downwind that I considered the airfield that I had just left as an option. Bob Dennis
  13. Well done Scott, it looks great! Congratulations!
  14. A beautifull aircraft you have there Kyle, well done!
  15. I did a reserch on this subject before painting our RV9a. Here is an extract from a post on another forum on our reasoning for our paint choice. And a photo is in this thread on this site (scroll down the page a bit) http://www.recreationalflying.com/threads/rv9a-registered-raa.26984/ To come up with a paint job for our 9a (now called "Slipstream Runner") has been a continuing headache. For you guy's that have done this before, you'll know what I mean. You keep changing designs, colors etc etc. Color; After tossing around various colors, I decided to go with safety, something that could "be seen". So I got onto the forums and did a research on the best to be seen colors. Some say a dark color is the best to be seen, "you can always see a black a/c". While another stated "we have a bright yellow a/c in our club, and you can always see it in the circuit". While some others agreed a polished aluminium a/c glints in the sun like a mirror flashing at you. So I went with all three. Bright yellow, a dark metallic gray (looks like black from some angles and brown from other angles and only with the reflection of the sun does it look like metallic grey). And polished aluminium. And Robyn did her usual thing and did some nice graphics with some signwriting and put them on. The design; Ok, The idea of the design was #1, Keep the weight down. #2 Because most of the weight saving in the aircraft to register it RAA, was under the cowl and in the cab. Looking after the C of G I wanted paint up the front and in the natural area (wings etc) and very little (if any) on the tail. Ok I had to put some on the tail for a visual balance. But there is none on the elevators and only the minimum elsewhere.
  16. [We've just had a new Aero Refuellers Avgas bowser installed (finally!!!!) which accepts Aero Refullers carnets and credit cards.] Hi Jen Great news. That will be a lot better than having to pay $20 call-out fee for the truck to drive 150 mtrs (we dropped in on the way back from Vic in Jan). But it was worth it for your warm welcome smile (sorry you had to walk back because the truck decided it didn't want to move).
  17. Thanks Frank, It is clear and can read it easily.
  18. I'm confused here Mike. I see by your earlier post your 9a is based at Bundaberg, but your location is Kununurra. My previous statement was for NT and the top of WA. We want to do it this year, but if all the planets do not align for this year, then it will be next year. And that distance from Brissy, was by car. But you probably know where Watts is :))
  19. Sounds good Mike. Watts Bridge, which is about a hour and a half north west of Brisbane. At this stage we're hoping to get up your way about September.
  20. Ok, we've finally got our 9a ("Slipstream Runner") painted. Tell me what you think. Yep??? As soon as I can work out what the problem is, I'll fix it.
