  1. My wife is not only into flying but she is more into it than I am. When I told her I had always wanted to get my pilots licence she said "me too"!!. Now five years later we both have our tickets and have built a Hangar/Chalet and a RV9a. But now she is nagging me to build a STOL with big tyres because she says it would be fun to be able to land anywhere!!
  2. I have some Hangar space available at Watts Bridge.

    Congratulations Rob, it's looking awesome!!!
  4. Congratulations.!!! Are you still smiling?
  5. When we got there it was Saturday 10.30 am so the charge may have been a weekend penalty rate??? Bob
  6. Maj, We got Avgas there a couple of years ago. There was a phone number on his little shed to ring the owner, he took our details then gave us the combination for the lock. There was an honesty tin there. As long as nobody has tried to rip him off it should be the same deal. Goondiwindi has a "so called" card Avgas bowser. At least that is what we found when we tried to get fuel there last year. None of our credit or fuel cards would work with it, so we called the number on the bowser and was told the cards do not work anymore and there was a $100 call out fee!!!!! We were told the cards did not work for quite some time, at $100 a time why would he want to fix it!!!! Bob

  9. As you know Kyle, Lynfield does not have a windsock. Robyn had worked it out by the water and some smoke that the wind was about 15*-20-* off her port bow, so she came in a little hot expecting to loose the wind below the trees. You could tell by her couple of floating bounces before settling that it was probably a little too hot as the wind was funnelling down the strip. But that was better than dropping it in if she had lost the wind. I'm proud that she tackled the Lynfield strip as there has been a lot of experienced pilots that have refused to land there! Bob Dennis RAA registered RV9a
  10. My wife Robyn has nearly finished her training for her pilots licence. Here is a short video of her solo cross country. The camera shut down before take off, she noticed this during the flight and restarted it but she didn't clip it all the way in. This allowed the camera to vibrate and cause some shimmering in the video. The private strip is a little over 1000' long and very narrow. This is not her training field but she had done some take off and landings at the CFI's private strip before. Watch her reaction after landing back at his field.
  11. WOWW!!!!!! Congratulations Yenn!! Well done! As others have said, where are the photo's??
  12. poteroo, I have to agree with you about the 9a as a trainer. It is fitted with a little Lycoming low compression 0-235. Her first solo take of was at Bradfield on 36. And the first part of the take off roll is up hill and sometimes it can be a little soft down there. But her second solo take off (after the instructor got out) was at Watts Bridge on 12. You will notice in the video she lifted off just before #2 taxi way and the distance from the piano keys to the #2 taxi way is 700 feet. She started the roll after the piano keys and was of before the #2 taxi way, so I would estimate her take off roll at about 600 feet. The Drift 170 camera has a wide angle lens which makes everyting look a lot further away, so it would look like she had traveled a lot further. There was about 80 litres of fuel on board and the prop fitted allows us to cruise (2400 rpm at altitude) at 120 knots IAS (about 135-140 kts TAS) and sipping 20 litres an hour. While that is not fast for a RV it is economical for RV!!!! We always use first flap setting (7*) for take off (unless we are on a long sealed airfield) and for a short field we use the second setting (15*).
  13. Sorry about the quality of the in cabin video. The plastic mount on the Drift 170 camera allows the camera to viabrate causing the shaking and waves. I solved the problem on the wing mount (the first solo) by modifying the wing mount to support the camera, but I haven't modified the cab mount because I wasn't expecting it to be a problem in out of the breeze. I remounted the in cabin mount on a more solid structure, thinking that would do the trick. Back to the drawing board.
  14. I see your location is Watts Bridge, so is mine but I can't place you??? Cheers Bob Dennis
  15. His name is Cliff Rudge and like Ianrat I purchased a couple of items off him about four rears ago. He did have a warehouse and a couple of containers of parts. He also told me he had a hanger at Roma and if I was ever stuck there or just wanted a cupa, to give him a ring and he would tell me where the key was. The other number I have for him is 07 55960000. Again this number is also about four years old.
  16. I forgot to mention. I bought a spare air filter from Aircraft Spruce when I bought some other stuff and all I do is swap the filters when I do the service, then wash and blow the dirty filter out when I remove it and it is ready for the swap at the next service.
  17. I don't know about the air filter but I get the oil filters when I get the oil for the 0-235 in our RV9a at Shell Archerfield.
  18. Friapuck, I know you are trying to use ULP as much as possible. But just in case you may be planning to use Avgas at Goondiwindi (as we were). The ERSA tells us it is a card fuel pump. It was, but it is not now!!! And I don't think he is in any hurry to get it fixed as he charges $100 call out fee!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were told by other pilots there it hasn't been working as a card machine for about 12 months!!!
  19. Congratulations Sabrina, well done! Go girl!!!!!
  20. The break in formular that Yenn stated is correct. I just looked up my engine log book and that was the procedure we followed as ours was a complete rebuild. I can remember flogging the hell out of the engine, but that formular was the procedure we went by.
  21. Same as poteroo for our Rv9a. Our low compression 0-235 on our latest trip (2600 nm) consumed one pint of oil. The motor now has 270 hrs Tach time and 240 hrs Hobbs time. We got heaps of conflicting instructions on how to break in a Lycoming. We finished up going with Lycomings manual and tied the aircraft down and flogging the sh!t out of it for an hour. This was done in several sessions on the same day so there was no waiting for oil temps to come up and it was full throttle untill cylinder head temps got over 400*, we then brought it back to a high idle for a couple of minuts to allow temps to drop and then shut it down to cool. Then apart from first flight flogged it for the first ten hours. I used the first ten hours to do full throttle climb and speed tests etc. Our breather hose always has a drip sitting on the end of it so I don't think that is excessive blow-by unless there is oil splatted around the breather hose.
  22. WOW!!! That's looking good..... you must be getting excited rgm!!!
