  1. Futura, as one of the group you refer to as the "select few with an axe to grind" I resent the implication that we are all negative. The only reason that the new club was started was because there was no other active club to join. Most of its members are only interested in trying to develope aviation in Goulburn. The "local aviators with the large hours" you refer to have been conspicuously absent when requests have been made for ideas to get aviation off the ground in Goulburn. The unsightly areas at the airport are the privately owned areas and the users have no say in how those areas are maintained. The local council is resposible for the lack of facilities, not the users. The New club has offered, and been refused, permission to mow the airfield regularly to save the council money. I will support any organisation that can help develop general aviation in Goulburn as long as it is not to the detriment of the local users. If you can help the local users retain the airfield and enjoy their flying, then more power to you.

  2. The 2 card system I use has a total of 4 outlet ports for monitors. 1 vga and 1 digital on each card. I have 2 monitors plugged into the first card and one plugged into the second card (It will take 2). I have not bridged the cards. The 2 cards are both nvidia cards and use the same driver. (cards were about $80 each - 512 MB and pci E. Microsoft flight sim x allows you to get a virtual cockpit view inside the main view screen. This can be moved to the left or right screen, resized and then adjusted to view either out the left or right windows. The screen setup is contained in windows setup and the nvidia controller from the card setup. I have the screen set so when I look left the left screen lets me look out the left window, the center screen allows me to look straight ahead and the right screen lets me look out the right window. I could add a small 4 th screen that I could tranfer the aircraft instrument view onto. but I need to get a larger power supply to drive that. It is possible to spread the one picture over three screens but you don't get the proper view you need to see where the aircraft is going.

I set this up because it annoyed me that I couldn't look out the side windows when I was flying the computer. I already had 2 of the monitors I needed as I have an observatory networked to the main computer. I bought the third one second hane from a local computer shop. There are a number of websites that show you how to set thyis up. (cant remember them off hand but can look them up if necessary.) It is not as difficult as I was lead to believe and looks really cool when flying the trike in FSX.

  3. Hi Redair,

I have an Xcom radio and have had no problems with it. I find it easy to use and , as with the Microair 760, it mounts in a very small area. I have no experience with the Microair but believe they are very much of a muchness performance wise. I have heard people say that the Xcom is a little easier to use in flight. I think both would pewrform admirably for you.

  4. Controlled airspace, plb's, pseudo GA aircraft etc may be all very well but I think people are forgetting that a lot of pilots are just happy to fly within the limits of their aircraft and their abilities. The reason we have a seperate organisation is to control the lower performance end of the market and look after the pilots that just want to fly for the pleasure of it. If pilots want to cross oceans or deserts, compete with 747's or do what larger and faster aircraft do, then go and get their ppl and leave us "normal people alone". I fly rag and tube, get a real kick out of a lazy flight on a fine afternoon and do not wish to compete with larger GA aircraft in either performance, passenger capacity or speed. (if I did I would get my PPL and buy an aircraft to suit). I carry a radio as I think they are essential, I do not carry a PLB. Do not try and make me a pseudo GA pilot as I don't want it.

  5. Hi Hitimes, dont let the weight put you off, I have a bit on myself and fly a rag and tube ultralight. No problems with flying. Get the ultralight cert, that way at least you can say you can fly and you never know what may be around the corner. Cross country endorsement will get you out of the circuit and bust the 25nm limit wide open. Things look a lot different from up there.

  6. In defence of Teraya, She taught me to fly. I dont have a problem with the size of the circuit she teaches. There is one pilot at Goulburn that hires Teraya's aircraft that seems to do an extended cross country in the circuit but Teraya has taught me standard circuits. The proof being that engine out tests are performed from anywhere in the circuit and a runway landing made safely. I have found Teraya to be fair, considerate and a very good teacher. I have never felt that she was extending things just for the money.

  7. Hi, I recently flew from Goulburn (2140' amsl) to Wollongong (0' - 100' amsl, I use a rotax 582 grey head with brolga prop. I was interested to note that the aircraft seemed to float furthur on landing and when taking off I noticed a signifigant increse in clinb out rate (500 - 600 ft/min at YGLB, and 650 - 750 ft/min ay YWOL. Is this normal? Seemed funny doing circuits at 1000' amsl instead of 3200' amsl.

  8. I run an xcom760 and the reports and performance I get are great. If installed correctly they are the equivalent of any of the others. However they are not in the $500 range. You might be better off with a hand held for that price or a 2nd hand one from the states.

  9. I think the registration problem was with the south african end. This sat at Goulburn for a long time on the grass and thenat end of one of the taxiways between the hangers (as slarti said). To get my xair out and onto the taxiway I had to treat the damn thing as an aluminium roadblock and weave my way around it (some people have no consideration). I had heard rumours it was disappearing overseas again. Good riddance.
