  1. Couldn't agree more. I know it may have been common knowledge around the circles but I had no idea about the Serpentine event a few weeks ago until a friendly forum member sent me a message the day before. Would be great if we could get this info out, and if nothing else do some hangar flying or let locals know we have a spare seat etc. I know this happened to me with regard to the spare seat and I really enjoyed the opportunity to meet a local fellow aviatior and all round good bloke! Be great to get more of this happening. I'll make sure I'm part of it.
  2. As per my post in other thread....I'm in!
  3. Parkway I'm keen as to help in any way I can woth this. I'm a (relatively young) family man and I enjoy flying for fun, and I'm keen to meet other aviatiors in Perth. I'll search for the Facebook pages and get on board. Cheers Mike
  4. Well I'll add my 2 cents to the CASA and AVID ASIC thing, I just did my medical and BFR for PPL and I don't have a valid ID and I've received my new Part 61 license, sure I've had one in the past but it expired many years ago. And I'll also add, got told by instructor don't hold your breath for the paperwork from casa but obviously with logbook and old license endorsed I'm good to fly, but about 10 days later pleasantly surprised to find the new license in my letterbox from CASA!
  5. Hi and Welcome Henry Good to see another sand groper joing our ranks ;) Weather sure has been average! Hopefully the heavens align soon so we can get a does of flying in! Cheers Mike
  6. Yeah myself and my oldest (shes 4 but loves planes) are heading there in a bit. Weathers cleaning so hopefully a few make it in. Yeah cloud dancer seems great I'm sure some others will comment I fly with the Aero Club so have no direct experience with them.
  7. I'll add to the no universal method statement I've just moved from Piper (low wing) to Cessna (high wing) and wow what a difference in the flair. The picture looked kind of the same but I thought I needed to hit the gym for the Cessna the amount of back pressure on the yoke to hold it off was in my Piper mind herculean. Suffice to say my first few landings were very firm!
  8. To go back to the OPs post I don't understand why they don't maintain dual frequencies in manned tower hours, seems to just add confusion maybe someone away sick? I've encountered it twice at Jandakot and it was congested and tedious.
  9. Hey Kev Welcome to the forum. Yes there are a few of us Perth based aviators on the forum though we are a little thin on the ground. There's some great schools around these days..I've kinda done the same and had a break from flying and also had my time in the Warrior (and tomahawk!) Might be a bit late notice for you but serpentine airfield are having their fly in day today, I'd say the weather will hamper most of us flying in but should still be a BBQ etc on. Where are you hoping to fly from or are you still looking into schools?
  10. Agreed lovetofly Heard yesterday there was confirmed loss of oil pressure followed by forced landing as previously stated, confirmed by relative of pilot. Engine was running and producing low power when he shut down hoping to make the paddock
  11. I will also add...your aspirations to hold an RAA Recreational Certificate are certainly not over, you don't need to hold class 2/any medical (my understanding) only PPL and beyond so to speak needs class 2/1
  12. Hi I can say I've not experienced a head injury but I have experienced a "please provide more tests" letter from CASA, my experience was kind of simple...speak to CASA and or your Dame and be honest...CASA helped me every step of the way, sure they were slow to respond and my tests were black and white so to speak (increased BMI and high blood pressure) but gave them a few phone calls and got good information and assistance. Make sure your comfortable with your DAME and make sure they understand your situation
  13. Local farmer that assisted said he got covered in "gas" but dragged them out to get away from any fire...so assume it had some "gas" in the tanks...fingers crossed
  14. Well my last flight came completely by surprise and was courtesy of a very nice bloke namely Zodiac from this forum! Zodiac and I met for the first time in person as we jumped in the cockpit! I received a call Saturday morning saying I'm going flying and I have a spare seat would you like to come! Of course I did and we had a really nice fly from Jandakot up the coast to Hillarys and back to Jandakot via Powerhouse. Was a beautiful morning of flying with some great views...was good to have some time to take a look out the window for once and not have to focus too much on aviation I must say! Thanks Zodiac! 15. Parkway if nothing else maybe a class 2 medical is a good step...worth finding out if you can hold one. Then start RPL/PPL as you decide. I've had no dealings but I believe clouddancer at YPJT can sort you out with both from RAA (I fly from Royal Aero Club) Good to see some more active WA aviators on the forum too!
  16. Im certainly under no illusions that my path with CASA is complete I figure I have months of tests ahead of me at best. And I'm not saying at all I don't support the idea of a reduced medical requirement...I'm just asking if this is going to make the skies less safe than they are now? Nothing more nothing less
  17. I've just re-read the report mentioned in the OPs letter - UK CAA CAP 1397 APR16 And to be honest I still think my point is valid - and please don't think I'm saying this because I'm super fit and pass a class 2 with ease....I don't...my class 2 picked up hypertension a few weeks ago which has meant a long list of further testing that's still not over, but has this stopped a potential ticking time bomb of a pilot from flying...absolutely...did I know I was a ticking time bomb before the medical...no way. I feel the statistics are so low and there has been few in flight incapacitations due to a medical condition because the system we have as annoying and drawn out and slow and expensive it is keeps pilots likely to be incapacitated out of the cockpit. Surely that makes some sense. Has anyone got the statistics on how many medical incapacitation events/accidents have occurred in RAA with the lower medical standard? Don't see this as an RAA bashing I hope to be an RAA pilot myself in the coming weeks just an observation.
  18. Surely though consideration must be given to the fact that the current medical testing prevents accidents because it stops those at risk from flying. If medicals weren't needed would the accident rate in GA increase? Looking only at RAA, Gliders and other non medical/basic medical required is there a higher proportion of medical related accidents?
  19. Yeah if I crashed the big ones as often as I crashed RC then I'd be a CASA frequent customer! The ATSB would love me!
  20. Thanks Ultra I have heard a bit about Bindoon certainly on my radar so to speak to visit. I tried RC for a bit to try and get some of the itch to fly under control but I made too man holes in the ground! Mike
  21. Yeah that's it mate just drive in start unpacking the camper and be like wow those planes are close must be an airport near by....whoops! I do a pretty good surprised face!
  22. Great vid Dinga...looks like a top spot! Was hoping to get up there this weekend but the weather isnt looking all that great for camping Its certainly top priority for us now though...just gotta break it to my wife that its not only a good camping spot....she hasnt been told about the runways/hangars/aircraft yet!
  23. Well done couldn't have said it better myself Can't we all just have fun and go flying irrespective of how we do it and under which license...
  24. Welcome S.J Hunter Good to see another west aussie on here. Safe flying Mike
  25. Yeah Facthunter I agree re the social aspect...it's not always easy and different personalities don't always gel...it's just figure I'm surely not the only mid 30s guy with a wife and kids that loves flying and doing stuff with my family and have a desire to maybe in some way combine these. My oldest daughter likes hanging out at the Aeroclub with a coloring book and watching the planes with Dad but I'd like it to be more and the attraction of the White Gum Valley farm and camping looks like a good way to do that, if there can be some fellow family oriented pilots/budding pilots out there with kids. I'm certainly keen to also maximise my time in the air so RAA is still on my list of must do's
