G'day Tomo, My RV9A is a typical example of an aircraft sitting in the hangar not being used. I still pay the insurance and maintenance regardless. We own the hangar but still pay a ground lease to the local council.
I would say the annual fixed costs are around $2400 for insurance, $1700 for hangar lease and about $1200 for an annual. The aircraft does get a fly every two or three months but only by a couple of pilots I know who have to go out of there way to do it. If it is good enough for them to travel then it is good enough for me to put the fuel in to have the aircraft flown rather than just sit! It is far cheaper for me to pay for some fuel than fly back from Kununurra every two or three months just to take the aircraft for a fly.
Regardless of what Mazda has been going on about re your post I think it was not unreasonable to put the question out there as there must be plenty of aircraft just sitting around in hangars due to situations such as ours.

I notice that the RA AUS website has had no updates lately. August members market is not on line. The aircraft register has not been updated since Jan 11. I spoke with the admin staff at RA AUS and they say that the web site is being upgraded at an off site location and that no amendments to the current site are being made. Has any member in the know got any date as to when the new/revised web site will be online?

Welcome Timold, I think there are alot of people waiting to see Bruce's (Scotty) aircraft flying in the next few weeks.
Will be good to have some actual numbers to post for prospective buyers of this "clean" wing model.

Started the final assembly with the tail fitted and the screens and skylight in ready for the wings to go on next week. It's getting closer/quote]Scotty, I see VH-CVH in the background of the photos you posted. I see she has had the newer undrcarriage installed since earlier photos on the AAK web site.

The aerodrome I look after is designated a Security Controlled Airport. We have many jet services (F100's) a week but all these flights are Charter flights with the exception of a RPT flight through on Fridays. The staff only have to hold and display an ASIC for the period of this flight. From CASA websiteNOTE: Some airports are classed as security controlled but do not have RPT operations. An ASIC is not required at these airports.Essendon and Moorabbin airports have an area for RPT operations that is designated as security controlled and an ASIC is required. The remainder of the airport is not security controlled and an ASIC is not required. If you have any queries regarding whether or not an ASIC is required at a particular airport, or in a specific area of a particular airport, you should contact the airport direct or contact the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.
ASIC is not required at Archerfield

Hi Win68,What is the deal with ASIC's that have an airport name on them rather than AUS? Surely an ASIC is an ASIC...?An ASIC with the aerodrome location on it e.g GYL is for those staff who require the ASIC to work at that aerodrome ONLY and it is NOT valid any where else as there is no requirement for that person to hold an AUS ASIC. I don't know if the back ground security checks are as strong as that for an AUS issue.

This has been the case at some aerodromes however, OTS (Office of Transport Security) now require the codes be changed every six months.code is usually marked somewhere on the airside side on or near the gate....CTAF freq is the code at a few 'secured' airports I've been to.......:thumb_up:We have been pinged recently on this at the aerodrome I run here in the Kimberley.

One aerodrome I used to frequently operate from which had landing fees also had a number of RAA registered aircraft operating. One day when discussing landing fees one of the pilots stated that he never pays landing fees quoting that RA aus aircraft dont pay fees as there is no way of Avdata or aerodrome operator getting the owners addresses unquote. These same folk used to discuss the closure of aerodromes. I wonder if fees were payed by ALL then aerodromes may be viable to the operators of these aerodromes!I'm just stirring the pot. What's the point of an online forum if you can't do that?Even if Avdata switched to taking photos instead of using radio they still could not charge a single RA-Aus aircraft a landing fee. I don't work for Avdata - well apart from filling in the paperwork to get aircraft out of landing fees for aerodromes we've never even heard of inline with what frank says above.I remember reading some two or three years back in the RA aus mag an article by a previous ops manager that if he ever received an account for fees from an aerodrome operator or AVDATA then he would add from memoary 10% to the account and pass it on to the registered owner. I wonder if this has ever happened.

The findings by the Coroner of the Sting accident near Goulburn back in 2007 had the following to say at the end of his report.Personally I find it bizarre and ridiculous that I can take any VH aircraft rego and find out the owner and where they live... or which airport they likely keep their aircraft at. I think the question definitely should be why? Not why this info is not available to the general public on Ra-Aus aircraft and owners.I make the following recommendations, the Minister for Transport, with copies to RA AUS and to CASA, and ask for advice from each within six months as to their implementation.
1. That RA Aus be funded through CASA sufficiently to ensure annual inspection of Pilot and Aircraft Log Book Records, and to supervise regular servicing and maintenance of all recreational aircraft with two Levels required for maintenance, Level 1 being confined to low level maintenance by owners, and an annual, or 100 hours, whichever is the earlier, Level 2 service and inspection by suitably qualified independent mechanics. Further, that the current ‘Policy and Accreditation of Persons Suitable to Conduct Maintenance on Recreational Aircraft’ be reviewed by RA Aus with a view to restricting the type of work that may be carried out at Level 1.
2. That RA Aus have power to ensure that Condition Reports are correctly prepared and presented by an independent LAME prior to any sale of any aircraft.
3. That RA Aus establish a public register (including the records) of all recreational aviation aircraft (ultralight) importations and sales in Australia, and accept the obligation to ensure appropriate registration based on a certificate of airworthiness.
4. That RA Aus have the power to impose sanctions including fines and loss of licence for non-adherence to its requirements.
I note in para 3 above that the coroner recommends a public register be implemented within six months. I wonder what advice he received from both organisations.

Hey Tomo, I live in Kununuura and there are no aircraft available to hire here that I have been able to locate in the past three + years. A few private aircraft but the owners do not hire them out. My aircraft is currently over in our hangar in Bundy.

Hi, I was with this aircraft (VH-SFG) in Kununurra two weekends back and it has the V6 engine with belt drive PSRU. They were even carrying a spare reduction belt in Ron Fields (SFG owner's) J230. Dont always believe what is on regosearch.com. Even the CASA rego search gets it wrong. I have a friend with a Vans RV6A shown as a RV6!Ave8rr,This website has different things to say...http://www.regosearch.com/aircraft/au/SFG
"No. Engines: 1
Manufacturer: TEXTRON LYCOMING
Type: Piston
Model: IO-360
Fuel: Gasoline"

The engine is a Isuzu 3.5L V6 converted for aircraft use. This engine is fitted with a cog belt drive PSRU. Latter versions have a fully cast gear PSRU. http://www.supermarineaircraft.com/V6%20Engine.htm

G'day Andrew
I will also be home from Kununurra for the weekend of the airshow. Might be a good idea to have a meeting place and time on the Saturday.
I dont know the layout of the show as yet but my hangar may be available. It (hangar fronts 07/25). The main static display area is usually in front of the hangar on the eastern portion of the grass vector.

This proposal follows on from what UK, Canada, USA and more recently NZ have introduced.
The licence is the same as a Full PPL but has limitations on the number of passengers ( NZ is 1) the MTOW of the aircraft and the operating of an aircraft of a lesser performance. Basically it allows a PPL (or higher licence) to be issued with a RPL when the holder can no longer hold a class 2 medical. This allows the holder to still operate an aircraft that they may have owned or flown for years e.g. C150/172 or PA28 series aircraft etc.
If this licence is ever created here in Aus then it will be a PPL with down graded medical and the restrictions that go with that.
Here is a link to the NZ Brief as published in the NZ flight Safety Mag when the licence was created a few years back. http://www.caa.govt.nz/GA/Sport_&_Rec/RPL_SepOct07_Vector.pdf There is more on the NZCAA Web site for those who may be interested.

I havn't received my magazine as yet but then Australian Post will have it up here in the NW in about 10-15 days going on past experience. I am dissapointed to see it reported on this thread that there has been a name change. Was this ever discussed amongst the membership and / or mentioned at Natfly? As for the content, I will come to a conclusion on that after said magazine is received and digested.

Sorry Ian, When I read External: 3G (WCDMA/TDSCDMA/EVDO)It should as you would use a Telstra dongle modem plugged into one of the USB ports when you need access to "live" data (providing there are no issues with Android and I will include that in my tests to find out)Also forgot to mention that the case of the units also have a keyboard in them which you can take out when flying or put in for home or on the go making it a EFB come lite Laptop:
in the specs above I assumed it (unit) took a Sim card and that it supported some of the phone frequencies.
I was probably ahead of the brain!
Cheers

G'day Ian, I see the unit supports 3g what about the Nextg (Telstra) system as this by far has the best coverage across Aus?They do mate...you just plug it into a cig lighter plug in your aircraft if you have one and many people are installing these as a power outlet...my car has a box plugged into the cig lighter that has 2 lighter plugs and 2 usb plugsCheers

I wonder what the cost/feasibility is off importing a Bantam from New Zealand... there are a lot for sale "over there"...
W68, A 20' container is around $2500.00 to Brissy plus wharf fees, Customs, Quarantine and GST etc.
You could probably get two Bantams in a 20 footer though. Google the NZ manufacturer Micro aviation.

As I understand it, "Contractors" have to have their own insurance, pay their own tax super etc.
