1. I join with everybody in condolences and sadness for the loss of life and severe injury to the aircraft's occupants.I hope that the accident investigation looks beyond the circumstances of the accident to also looking at occupant safety issues that may have contributed to the severity of the accident result.

I believe that this is something that warrants concern, given that the designer of the Bristell is also the designer of two of the three worst aircraft for accident safety in this report: http://www.jabiru.net.au/images/The Aviation Consumer - LSA Accidents.pdf - the CAW Sport Cruiser and the Evektor. Also the designer of the Piper Sports, that Piper removed from sale after very few were delivered to the market.

Oscar, It was a Piper Sport that was involved in the fatal accident (training) near Bundy a few years back.

It has been reported that that aircraft was most likely in a flat spin.

  2. I agree with KRviator re room to move in the -9 and the fuel capacity. I do max 3.5 hr legs in our -9A. In the -4, half that as you can't move about at all. I am only 8' 10" and 70kg.

The other factor to consider is the very small tailwheel on the rougher strips you may encounter out and beyond. I asume you have flown the RV-4 hence your interest in the type.

    Mike.

  3. Have you seen the alternative service provider list - can't say it increases my desire to pay the government for a useless service.

Aviation ID Australia advise that the list of persons approved to carry out ID checks will be updated. E.g. The Bundy Airport manager will be approved for applicants in this area. It will be similar at other Aerodromes.

    Mike.....

  4. Thanks Mike, I left a message on his phone a few days ago too (30/5), but he hasn't got back to me yet. I figured if anyone could understand my predicament it'd be Darren. I am starting to feel like a leper! 053_no.gif.1b075e917db98e3e6efb5417cfec8882.gif

My RV9A was built in Canada. Was imported in 2008 and no problems getting her on the Aus Register.

Steve Dines did the paperwork but he was in good health then.

    Cheers Mike

  5. Yes, you're quite right ave8rr. See my post "ULF-2". Mods, can you please change the title of this thread to ULF-2? I can't :(Ave8rr, do you have any knowledge of the ULF-2? Looks very nice in specs, vids, pix, etc.

Hi Bruce, No knowledge of the ULF-2. Looks like a great project though using materials (wood) that can be sourced here in Aus.

    Cheers Mike

  6. Does anyone have experience of this motor glider? Or know of any being built in Oz?It looks like a fun plane, and there are very few wood & fabric motor glider plans available.

I'm getting the urge to build again, & the ULF is on my shortlist. Though I'd probably substitute an MZ201 for the converted Citroen Visa called up in the plans.

    Bruce

    Shouldn't Thread Title read ULF-2?

  7. It was mentioned round the coffee table at the airstrip this morning that it was Jabiru who bought Camit plant and equipment at the clearing auction. Having been out of the country for six weeks recently, have I missed something or does someone have an authoritive rebuttal? Massively curious.

Jabiru bought only a few bits and pieces through the auction process. No machining equipment.

  8. Aside from an unknown structural issue, what do think might be learned from this event that isn't already common knowledge?

All we really know is that he departed for a local solo flight.

    Could be structural.

    Could be Medical.

Could have be carrying out manouvres at less than a safe height.

It's now in the hands of the investigating team.

  9. The Adelaide Soaring club at Gawler have just got a new Jabiru with the new engine. It will be interesting to see how it goes.Over the last 15 years, there have been thousands of hours run up here in Jabirus with very few engine problems. I don't mean for this to sound like an advert, but other engines ( Subaru, Revmaster, Rotax) have also had problems and they are not used in training like the Jabiru.

I'm hopeful that the new Jab engine will prove to be very reliable, so I can buy one when the time comes.

I assume the new Jab engine now has CASA Certification to be able to be used for training?

  10. According to Channel 7 morning news, this is the aircraft involved, a Sonerai IIL. The photo is from a "Sold" advert on Aviation Trader. That colour will make it hard to spot in tiger country.

Is it confirmed that this is the aircraft? This aircraft was only sold down in Tassie a week or so back.

There is another green mid wing Sonerai in the area.
