  1. jabiru flywheel now uses nordlock spring washers to maintain clamping force instead of Loctite

yet to be convinced this is a fix, an improvement maybe

Another CAMit improvement to the Jab engine Rod didn't want to take up. A Nordlock washer is cheaper! I suspect.

  2. Can we please get back to the thread CAMit Closing. I am not interested in the political reasons why. More interested in what can be done to help those that have bought a CAMit engine and now have something that is no longer supported. Those who purchased helped to support a local buisiness unlike the main user of the engine who has gone offshore due price.

  3. I can only say - as a supporter of Jabiru - that certain parts of that message are hypocrisy of the first order. The second paragraph is Trump-esque in its disconnection with the truth.. If one is classically Chinese, one would say that there is a special Hell being prepared for its author.

Agree Oscar. Orders to CAMit only went one way this year. Can anyone confirm that the aircraft moulds have left Bundy?

  4. I emailed an expression of interest a few days ago and they have already made contact with me.

Yes me to. Email back within about 30 minutes of registering an interest.

Website being created so more to come soon.

  5. As soon as Camit started producing and selling their "own" engines it was bound to end in tears. Imagine if you were a manufacturer and your main supplier started selling a version of "your" product? You would look to cut them off ASAP. Even if it does spite your face for a bit..T'was inevitable in my opinion .

Dont agree. Ask Jab why they started developing their own engine giving less and less orders to Camit - their engine supplier for many years. Camit had to try and stay in buisness.

  6. Employees are having to claim their entitlements through the Fed Gov system as per the Qld Nickle (Palmer) employees fiasco in Townsville. Forms handed out to the 22 Camit employees by the Accountants as I am informed. comment was also made that some of the plant equip was getting tired!

  7. Sad time for Ian, his family, employees and of course any creditors. I think this engine had all the hallmarks of being the best currently out there. Ian is indisputably very knowledgeable in this field, it's a serious loss to the whole industry.

Meanwhile not a single person at CASA has lost even a dollar of their generous pay.

I dont believe CASA had alot to do with this. They were doing their job in my opinion.

The problem was Jabiru believing there was nothing wrong with the current engine/s. Camit trying to improve the product and succeding. Jabiru wanting no part if it and moving to another supplier probably cheaper but appears some time before being released. Camit getting minimal orders from Jab for the 3300 and Camits 3300 still getting a name for itself in the field. Costs mount up and now we have the outcome we shouldnt of had. Loose loose all round.

  8. I would be concerned that with all this shananigans going on and if it continues that the umpire ( CASA) will blow his whistle and make a call that none of us recreational pilots will like. In most instances the umps decision is final and hard to overturn. Also, there are not enough members or potential members in this country to have more than one coheasive, effective and financial association under which to fly and even that entity will struggle due to numbers.

    What shenanigans?

  9. Lets say absolute min 50K per month wages for the production of apparently aprox 10 engines per month, before any other costs, worse if they don't own the factory, the math doesn't add up just on that before you bother with details..

Last few weeks, wages approx 30k per week. 2.5 - 3.0 engines per week plus a few parts for Jabiru.

Little or no parts production by the plant machinists for past month due stock on the shelves awaiting sales/assy. I am told plant was offered to Jabiru some time back but rejected.

  10. Mark: nobody knows whether CAMit is in receivership, or has shut down while still solvent, to regroup. Also, the details of the IP agreement are unknown. Too soon to make prognostications.

Allegedly Handed over to accountants so looks like Receivership.

  11. So I wonder where that leaves the Bathawk?Pity it looks like such a fun little plane but I certainly would not buy one with a Jabiru engine.

Not sure about the Bathawk, what about all the aircraft with the Jab 3300 installed? Camit supplied parts for that model. Heads and cranks etc.

  12. They might not be able to discriminate between people based on a service they offer but they are not prevented from refusing to be in the business of providing a particular service at all. You can't sue a shop if they refuse to stock Dick Smith Foods. People wouldn't be able to sue if they refuse to manage 95-10, unless CASA insisted as part of some deed.

Col, hopefully there will be no 95-10 or any of the other orders currently in existence. Have one order allowing any aircraft up to say 600kg MTOW. Have the designer / builder set the weight within the 0-600kg. That's how it's done in UK, Canada, NZ etc. Drop the requirement for factory built for training. NZ and other countries can build an aircraft from a kit and use that aircraft for training.

  13. Jabiru are still testing their new 2200 engine. How far from being sold I am not sure. I have not heard that they are doing any work on a 3300 version. This could be a problem IF they are relying on CMIT for a supply of parts.

  14. How can they register aircraft VH? That's done by CASA and not something under the regulations they can pass out to another company to manage. Something doesn't smell right here, some factual information released by the company would be good or CASA?

Gliders are registered VH. Administered by the GFA incl issuing Pilot Licence/Certificates. E&LAAA would come under the same system. This is how it operates in UK, Canada, USA and NZ etc.

  15. I agree entirely about the backward step but disagree about hanging our heads in shame. I am confident that a significant part of this problem came from the Jariru engine debacle since that's where a lot of Camits income came from. I think many of this group ( myself included) wrote letters, made representations and did what we could to try to have casa see sense and change their ruling. I think of that we can be quite proud.I'm sure there were multiple factors which have led to this outcome but those of which we as a group have had any ability to change were handled in a way we don't need to hang our heads.

I think the problems started when Rod started working on using foreign bits and pieces in his engine and wouldn't work with Ian to improve the existing Jab engine (Rod believed the engine was fine and that it was the way it was maintained causing the failures). Ian had ideas and worked to successfully improve the engines reliability and then started to sell the engine as a CAE badged unit.

I am told that there are about a 100 changes in the CAE from the Jab. Little things like loctite here or a washer there. Even the last few engines assembled by Camit for Jab were still mostly to the Jab Specifications. They would not or could not add the CAMIT changes.

I don't know how Jab are going to be able to supply parts for their existing engines that CAMIT have been making up until now. How long before Jab releases their new engine and what happens to those engines out there now when parts are required? Time will tell.

  16. If true that's a big problem for everyone, no parts or new engines from either companyThis rumour has done the rounds a few weeks ago, from US.

I did see latest Jab engine on display with cast block and new barrels and heads, done just a few hrs.

A Camit employee advises they were all layed off today.

  17. So if these are VH aircraft, thus registered with CASA and you need a RPL...issued by CASA, what is it exactly this company is offering to oversee?

It may be that CASA are going to allow a sub 600kg class and have organisations like E&LAAA issue a Pilot Certificate. This follows along the lines of NZ. Upgrade to a RPL and those pilots would have access to aircraft up to 1500kg MTOW. Seems like a good idea to me.

  18. I have a feeling that this new group will succeed. If the aircraft are VH registered as appears to be the case then I am sure controlled airspace access will be available subject to transponder requirements etc.

I know there are regular meetings between CASA Sport Aviation section and the NZ CAA. Controlled airspace is avbl to NZ Pilot Cert Holders. There are two organisations running side by side in NZ with a much smaller aviation sector numbers wise than here in Aus so I am sure another well run organisation could exist. We will see.
