Nah.Winsor68 - I was under the impression that UV light and radiation did as much, if not more, to decompose man-made materials, than oxygen and liquids such as water did.Yes, the dryness of space would certainly eliminate corrosion caused by water and oxygen - but the much stronger cosmic rays outside Earth would soon break down the organic molecules, the epoxy resins, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, nylon, and rubber, that comprises a very large percentage of the Tesla. -

I reckon they are dreaming.

I'm no scientist...but I would imagine that oxygen and liquid plays a major part in erosion and ageing on earth and that the materials would age better in the vacuum of space regardless of temperature. Of course if it is hit by space debris that may be different.Massive doses of cosmic radiation that we don't get on Earth due to the filtering effect of our atmosphere. Temperature variations that go to 127º C when facing the sun, while the shaded areas drop to -173º C.The metals in the vehicle will withstand these extreme impacts for quite a few decades, but the car is probably 40% thermoplastics and other rapidly-degradable materials, that won't last long when regularly impacted by radiation and those temperature extremes. You only have to examine any vehicle abandoned outside with no cover, to our weather on Earth, to note that it's badly damaged after only 12-15 years exposure to the elements.

Someone needs to pull the plug on this thread.

And in answer to your question... I reckon you chop the nose off...add a firewall and a motor...and go fly it?

That is so sad. Why, you turn it into an arty-farty, Sculpture by the Sea, of course! How many pilots does it take to turn a plane into a Sculpture by the Sea?I gather the arty aim is represent the glider running out of steam - the corkscrew in the fuselage must represent the rubber band unwinding - and the winds bending upwards must represent the tiredness in old, worn-out wings.
I guess its must beat corroding or disintegrating away on a big plinth outside the clubrooms. Maybe the sculpture will bring a bit of focus back onto recreational aviation.

What a mess this whole Ra-Aus thing is. It is incredible that so many people...including instructors...have no idea of the rules regarding their operations. Incredible and a very sure sign that things are still far from okay in my opinion.

Rockwell Commander folded it's nosegear on landing.

How lucky was he not to be killed.

Good one. Pun intended? The fact that the engine is cast-iron sure doesn't lend any weight to the idea that it was designed as an aircraft engine.- 1

No biggie really.

P.S. Did you say someone in your video was 165 years old???

I would rather hear the flying sounds than music. Which is a shame for me because the footage is great and I would have loved to watch it.

Sweet. I only just ordered my first FPV setup. Looks like a good cheap little airframe to mount it in.

Don...
Down at the bottom there is an option that says "upload a file"...I know it is confusing...I think it took me years to find it...you expect it to be up the top with the rest of the functions...use that to upload a file directly to the post...It gives you a choice between uploading as a thumbnail or fullsize. I recommend that later.
Where did I put that cliboard ?
