  1. It has end stops. But nothing in between.

So you have full fine at one end and full course at the other. In between there is no predefined stops. Just a button that adjusts it between full fine and full course.

So in cruse the pilot has to adjust the pitch to get the best RPM/pitch combo to get the best out of the flight. The two gauges needed for this are MP and more importantly RPM. With them on the right side and flat, it’s a PITA!!

  2. The prop does not have predefined stops. It’s electric with a button on the dash with lights to show full fine or full course.

To set the prop in the cruise I need to be able to see RPM and MP properly. Would be nice to have them right under my nose.

  3. So... Let's reopen this topic once again....

So I can't angle the instruments - Cool. But can I relocate them? Ideally the RPM and MP is what I would like right in front of me, and in fact, Evektor made this very change not long after my bird was manufactured. The MP and RPM guages are in front of the pilot, along with Air Speed, Vert, etc etc.

Now that would make perfect sense.

  4. Thanks Guys,

That's pretty much what I am going trial on my next flight. Get to the cruise, and then adjust the prop and throttle to get the RPM sitting at around the 5000rpm mark, and get the MP to around the 26 mark. Then do some experimenting to find the best result.

    Cheers

  5. I think we all go through similar stuff. I was the same in my Sporty. I would get my money's worth and zig zag my way down the entire strip! LOL! Even on take off. You get used to it after a while, but now I have developed a bad habit of cocking up the landings. I used to grease them in, now I just can't seem to get one smooth.

More practice required. Oh well.... means more flying required, and that's never a bad thing! ;)

  6. OK... So having a look through the manual (Rotax 912ULS) I have found the following image.

Now from flying around at cruise (around 5000rpm) my Manifold Pressure sits at around 23 to 25.

So according to this image, I could course the prop up to 27. Am I reading that right?

  7. I have the endorsement and I know how to use it. Take offs, landings etc etc.

What I want to know is how to get the "Best" out of it. Easy to say... course her up in the cruise. Fine for landing and takeoff etc etc. But I am looking for the finer details.

@Camel - I am in Yass, NSW. My prop is factory fitted woodcomp.

    @Downunder - Its a 912 - so yep. 100HP at 5800

  8. Hey all,

So my Sportstar has an inflight adjustable prop, and up to now have not had much need to move from full fine (no X country Endo) but now that I am about to start venturing out, I thought it best to start researching its appropriate use.

There is little to no info in the manual (It's factory fitted) and can't really find much online. I emailed Evektor some time ago, but no response either. :(

Any tips, hints, do and don'ts would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

  9. It beggars belief as to why you would put black tiles on a house in Australia. I purchased a fully enclosed trailer a while ago and it was a dark green colour. After about a week I realised it was getting VERY hot inside, and considering I was transporting some PA and instruments in it, I went about fixing the problem. Easy fix - I painted it white. Now, the temp inside is amazingly cooler than it was when it was green.

I don't understand the whole black roof thing!

  10. Like some of the others, I have a Sportstar and I love the bubble canopy and the view. Like the others, it can get hot on the ground and during taxi, but just open it a bit and you get some crazy airflow, so not that bad.

One thing I would recommend though is to get a UV Filtered version, or you will get horribly burnt.

  11. Angus Beef paid $10,000 for about three mentions on Burke's Backyard in prime time about twenty years ago. Does that give you any clues about how they could do it too. The content doesn't matter as long as the money is flowing. Remember John Laws, oh that's right he is still on, just no body listens to him any more!

Good point! Wouldn't it be great to see how much he paid the network to get that story on air? Then it's not really news is it! More a paid advert.

  12. I watched the segment too, and thought... hmmm... I wonder how many other agents for the likes of Evector or Bristel are watching and wondering how they can get their, more affordable RAA aircraft on prime time.

I honestly don't get it. It was pure advertising and contained no valuable information at all - and in fact - blatantly lied! The story made out that this aircraft is the only one in it's class at this price tag, and that, is misleading at best.
