  2. If you look back and see a dozen a/c following, then you will be the one paying the biggest bill.
  3. Like my boat, the next plane I buy will be cheap [<$10k.] I can sink the uninsured boat or total the a/c and be laughing all the way home. A $35k plane costs about $2000 a year to insure so if after 10 years use it is totaled, you only lost $15k. If you are a careful operator, all of the above will probably never happen
  4. The possibly ambiguious thing about these calls for me is the who you are bit. Over the last years I identified myself as "Sapphire" or "Varieze". Not everybody knows what those two a/c look like. The term "helecopter, ultralight, sports a/c, light twin etc" would be better

  6. This is where you sit if you've been naughty The electric glider uses lithium batteries that cost about $5000 for the small one and $10000 for the big one. Wonder how long they last?
  7. Or one of these to also satisfy the boating urge! I got lots of urges to satisfy. I like playing around with planes, boats, cars and sometimes I like just playing around.

The sort of vibration you get in flight would be the same as trailering over a rough road eg. continual high frequency vibration from the engine and the continual lower frequency vibration from turbulance. However continued trailering on rough road would just add to your maintenance bill. If you do most of the travel on normal paved roads at a sensible speed, I can't see a significant problem.
  9. Sure Dazza, and you dont have to get one with electic brakes as the plane will be much lighter than any boat it ever carried. Here in WA new regulations require if trailer weight and boat weight are more than 750 kg you need electric brakes. Though I see lots of big trailered boats still going around without e brakes
  10. I have a boat trailer that I thought of ripping off the rollers and laying a floor to make an a/c trailer. It had a 20 foot boat on it which I sold alone for $600 as is. The whole thing I bought for $250. Lots of boat trailers around with unfinished project boats on top going for a song. Gliders are trailered around a lot and they are built to minimum weight. Can't see any bouncing that would be worse than an normal stalled landing.l However fold up wings cant be towed at normal highway speed unless protected [enclosed]
  11. I plan to get a plane with fold up wings to trailer around requiring no hanger. If it doesn't have fold up wings, a hack saw and some door hinges will solve the problem
  12. Never seen a NACA number for anything I'v flown. Probably in the bottom of some engineers briefcase. Saw one plane riddled with vortex genereators-the more the better. A sledge hammer on the wing may get similar result. Can't down load any more photos-too large suddenly
  13. That's the only plane I have right now Tomo. However, since taking up sailing I've notice similarities. On a sailboat the wing is roughly vertical and becomes the engine as well-interesting metamorphosis. Here are some interesting planes from Oshkosh. The second one is a jet powered Sonex, forth one is an electric powered Long-eze, and fifth one a Rutan designed single seat Quickie which goes fast on low power. .
  14. My plane has served me well for quite a while. Operates on the smell of an oily rag, can be hangered in my shed, requires no insurance.

  17. Had a better read. Don't know how close in reality a gps elb will bring recuers but being able to signal them with an efficient light as they approach is an advantage, especially if you are hanging from a tree, the ledge of a cliff or some unaccessable area. If the rescue helecopter has to land far away you can signal the ensueing foot search.
  18. I think it's a great adventure and wish HIM all the best. However, I do write the rules for my own survival. Don't want to sound like a party poop, but everybody has their own level of risk. To me the level of risk in some cases does not justify the result.
  19. They can check the numbers as many times as they like, the only thing Iam jumping out of is my bed.
  20. Probably on that flight someone ventured to the back of the a/c. The c of g was so far back, that simple action caused the a/c to be uncontrolable. How is the spaceship flying, rocketman?
  21. It's a line of sight device and you have to point it at your rescuer hopefully without blinding him or them. Plenty of that going on in non rescue situations.

  23. As I understand it, when the cropduster was converted, probably the front hopper, pumps, fittings etc were taken out and the c of g moved way back. At that stage we are dealing with a new unknown a/c and have to do a weight an balance and add ballast where required. Now the a/c is given a new c of a. This was not done. The pilot would have applied the c of g tables in his manual thinking they still correctly applied to his a/c. The only way I can see the pilot responsible is if he was required to check that the a/c had a certificate of airworthyness after the modification. The air safety authority certainly didn't because at the time they didn't require it. That lack of legislation caused the accident. Then the head of air safety denied any fault because existing legislation did not reqire the a/c to be checked, and whose fault is that? Listening to him was like Richard Nixon explaining away watergate-
