Opportunity for a new Airpark?

Hi all,

I currently have my eye on a 800m Grass Strip outside controlled airspace, approved by council - but - 20 minutes from the CBD of a major regional town, and literally 5 minutes from the urban area, shops, etc..

I stumbled across it while looking at a business investment, essentially the airstrip is on the property but not essential to the business.

Now, I am interested in the business, but as an aviation fan (Never 'quite' finished my License, but love aviation and aircraft) I see an opportunity. I have looked at examples like Toogoolawah, Bluewater, Gatton etc...

It is literally a 800 x 20m single grass strip with about a 100m buffer on each side that could be used to provide areas for airside hangars for lease or similar.

One of my considerations is to try and offset the cost of the business which I am extremely interested in by either undertaking the development of the 'airpark', establishment of leases, necessary infrastructure etc... or by simply leasing the entire asset to an interested party.

Anybody interested? I am actually looking for a business partner(s) so please message me.

Yep North Queensland - 30 minutes from the Ocean. Happy to PM - I am still to make an offer on this business but not keen to get gazumped :)

30 minutes drive that is - about 8 minutes at 100 Knots :)

I appreciate your position. I reckon that we need these and guys like yourself to develop them. A bit too far north, wife wants closer to grandkids. Good luck

Cheers Geoff, hopefully I get some nibbles here.

Good luck, mate! It is so encouraging to hear of people like yourself, keen to open a new airstrip and maybe airpark, when so many existing are closing.

Cheers, Neil

Just don't make the mistake of having the hangars fronting the runway. If you can afford it, have taxiways running off the runway and have hangar, chalet sites etc. fronting onto those taxiways. Good luck.

Hi Mark,

That's great to hear and we need a lot more around our country; but before you go too far, have a meeting with your local council and discuss your plan.

There so many regulations (Local and State) you must adhere to that it's a giant mine field of red tape and brick walls; and it's very expensive red tape and very high brick walls !

Unfortunately, in Queensland it's very expensive.
