Medical Still has not come through - I think I made a mistake!

Asthmatic, so it normally takes time, but taking longer than normal this time around.

I was looking through the online application for an hints as to why it may be delayed and I noticed a small but potentially critical mistake that I made listing drugs. I had a knee op and listed that I had used Endone. Had a start and end date (about 5 days), but noticed that I have ticked the "ongoing" box also... I shall call CASA tomorrow to clarify, but I hope its not a problem.

Annoying part is that the operation I had is only just within their 4 year time frame of reporting, and I had DAME clearance to recommence flying.

Meh, getting stressed over nothing. Turns out it is related to the asthma and they want some sort of audit done on it when I do my next medical. Apparently it was assessed yesterday and have been cleared

Welcome to the "Marked Men" Club. From now on you will have to bear the burden of proof that any prior medical condition that you have mentioned will not impinge, in the slightest way, on the safe conduct of any operation of an aircraft.

Who knows? You dodgy knee could lock up and prevent you from operating the rudder or toe brake pedal. As for asthma! The merest whiff of some pollutant in the air could shut down your whole respiratory system without warning.

We can't have a medical disaster zone let loose in Australia's safe skies.

I got the letter. I now have a condition attached to my medical:

Conditions

Your medical certificate carries the following condition:

 Must carry short acting bronchodilator

I have been an asthmatic for 40 years, I don't go anywhere with out a short acting bronchodilator (ie. Ventolin). So this is of little consequence to me.

Then the Audit part:

Special Requirements – for your NEXT certificate

When your medical certificate becomes due for renewal, in addition to the usual renewal

medical examination and age-related tests, please provide:

1) a report about your asthma from your Treating Doctor / General Practitioner / DAME /

Respiratory Specialist with respect to:

 Clinical status

o progress

o reliever use

o preventer therapy

o exacerbations (precipitating factors / frequency / severity / steroid use /

hospitalisation)

 Investigations conducted

o Spirometry pre and post bronchodilator – please provide report

 Management

o treatment

o side-effects

o monitoring /peak flow diary

 Follow-up plan

Once again, having had this condition my whole life my asthma is well managed and I have a pretty solid treatment plan, so this is nothing. I could have easily had my treating doctor flick them a report had they asked.

I have changed DAME's this time. I picked a DAME that was closer to home as opposed to the last bloke who I used to see in the CBD. The last bloke was pretty thorough, and he made me do the pre/post reliever Spirometry. He opinion was that he knew what casa was like and if he did the test then I would not have to go and do a follow up with a specialist. Guess he was right, should have insisted the new DAME do the same. Live and learn.

A common misconception that has even been stated in CASA presentations. The reality is that there is a long list of conditions that disqualify you for a RAMPC, but you can still get a class 2.

But your main problem is that CASA Audit on your class 2 immediately disqualifies you from RAMPC.

Goes to show that CASA have still got you by the proverbials.......it never ceases to amaze me that CASA can railroad anyone out of the industry with constant and unceasing additional medical test demands on anyone who dare mention a slight medical issue of no consequence to their DAME or CASA avmed themselves

That was the whole idiocy of the RampC klusterf**k. This new one proposed if it is truly based just on the std Austroads medical then its no problem. You just need to "fly on a 12 month conditional" after tests or whatever from your local doctor ...sort of like a engine :). If you are allowed to drive a B double you should be allowed to fly a plane. But then again who knows until we actually see some real paperwork on it
