Home Hanger and Strip.

I'd really like to see photos and some brief stats of your private strip and hanger set up.

Here's my grass strip.....600m x 22m. Wheat crop either side.

Sussing out prices for a hanger... Damn expensive too!!!

Buy a good one - I've helped clean up the mess (more then once) when the hanger gets blown over.

Re the pic; Nice strip, nice day, limp sock ...:rotary:

On another topic, how was the feedback from the fly-in at Hopetoun now it's down the track a bit-we had a ball and were glad we went.

Ben,

Your strip looks great.

I am fortunate in that my plane lives at the mate's farm eleven minutes from my home.

He had an existing hanger and built another for my plane and one other. (see photos - soon to be flashed and painted. Was fun to build out of stuff we both had lying around. Some new materials but mainly used.)

Airstrip is a five acre irrigation bay - flat as and north south. Will take some up to date aerial shots and post them.

Did I mention I was pretty lucky?

Mark

I've got my own shed on my own land, but I'm using the local council (Taree) strip, because it's right next door!

Shed cost a lot more than it should 'cause I asked for a few little mods. 036_faint.gif.544c913aae3989c0f13fd9d3b82e4e2c.gif

I've got access to the main 'hard' strip as well, but I have to taxi to the other side of the airport to get on it. (There's no lazy icon) ;)

This is how we did it Ben Standard car garage $3500;) by the time we finish $5000 :thumb_up:works well for us 010_chuffed.gif.c2575b31dcd1e7cce10574d86ccb2d9d.gif

Great set up.... I have just got two quotes. I think I'll have to go smaller because a 15x13x3.8 is $36,000 plus slab and I have to put it up.... Or $44,000 if they do it.

I like yours... What are the specs on the garage and who did it?

We built a 40x30ft for less than $8k not long ago plus slab. You should be able to work out how to put it up yourself......031_loopy.gif.e6c12871a67563904dadc7a0d20945bf.gif and save a couple of $$$. You need to do a lot of ringing around to shed manufacturers to not get ripped off.

Now this may sound a little silly and perhaps a bit over the top, BUT

In the old days (really old days) people would come together and have a "Barn Raisin'" you know, built a barn or whatever in a day with plenty of food and refreshments (usually served after to ensure the building was built straight).

As you have a perfectly good strip, 011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif said participants (Hanger Helpers) could Fly In and - up she goes. ;) Naturally you don't want too many but I'm sure you could sort it out.

(You could also employ some of your local friends, but that cuts us out of the fun)

Just another idea.

regards

Cheap sheds and hangars

Heya Ben

Keep an eye on eBay under "sheds".

It's amazing what people sell, cheap, in the way of sheds.

Recently, saw a 60x25METER shed, for $100,000...massive!

Smaller ones suitable as a farm shed or hangar are always coming up

Looks like pylon 500 has the area ratio between the 'shed' and the house about right, 2.5 to 1 or greater is best.

Actually, I've left room for another hangar for when my collection grows. 024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif

It looks nothing like that now that the wheat has turned. Looks like a wasteland. I'll get another photo soon.

Thats a beautiful strip Bendorn. I'm planning to start constructing my strip soon but have to get development approval first, including writing a Statement of Environmental Effects, and I'll also discuss the proposal with my neighbours. My strip will be about 400m long and not perfectly flat, with distance between side fences being 40m. I'll post a photo of how it is now, and plan to set up a blog site later to show progress.

My hangar is already mostly built and is currently serving as our temporary home until we build the house after Christmas. It's 10m x 26m with an 11m opening and I designed it to be big enough to hold two aircraft, plus have a separate workshop. The workshop section is where we are living and the rest is serving as a machinery shed. I am yet to lay concrete in that section, plus it is open at the front so needs a 7.5m section closed off and the 11m section needs hangar doors.

Eating the elephant one bite at a time.
