  1. I have always been a bit of a dreamer and im always wanting to try new things. Getting a pilot license was on that list but towards the bottom as at the start of any new week i want to try something new. Anyway for my birthday my gf got me a flight in some nanchang fighter planes here at jandakot, (fciwa.com) so i went up and did it and the Pilot let me take control just to have a little fly and from that day i was completely hooked and went down and started the next weekend with my current school. I found the forum searching for a bit of information on the BAK exam and even though it wasnt what i was looking for im glad i found this forum :D
  2. now that is super impressive. some people just have fantastic imaginations and big brass uns to suggest an idea like that in the first place
  3. ah ok I wish i had that luxury but running a shop doesnt allow that lol. yeah i cant wait to start navs for the same reason just to get out and about and start seeing some sites. yeah i solo'd in KMB and like you it will always hold a special spot in my heart. I love the boomerang but like i said earlier i really dont have much experience in other planes but even so i still love it
  4. G'day Mike it certainly is a small world lol. I have only been up in the tomahawk twice and the warrior once. Im only ever there on sundays as its the only day i can get off work. But will keep an eye out for ya. how many hours have you done so far? and i bet you cant wait for your navs to start. i think im going to be starting mine around october or sometime around then.
  5. I totally agree, at Jandakot with up to 5-6 aircraft on circuits and in some cases 7 or 8 planes waiting to land on the duty runway it gets pretty chaotic so i love the radio for things like that i can go for a little circle before joining the mayhem that is landind at jandakot
  6. being very new to this flying thing with only 20 hours under my belt i think that radios should be mandatory IMHO. i have been taught to never rely on the radio and only use it as a last ditch resort to spot other planes. but i think overall every plane should have a radio IMHO
  7. Cheers Mad Dave I will definitely start looking into them today
  8. yeah i know what your saying but even on the tarmac there isnt much talking between pilots of different aircrafts. I have had a few lessons where the wait was 5-10 minutes at the holding point but like you said its what you get used to. And having done over 20 hours with min I will be sticking with it with minovation until completion :)
  9. Cheers for that Brett I thought i read that yesterday but i wasnt sure. I will have to look into acquiring some of those books for myself.
  10. yeah I will definitely try that I like Jandakot but because its always so busy there is to much of a proffessional attitude in my books and on the ground there isnt much banter or chatting going on lol. But thats just one persons opinion
  11. oh really? its a small world, I fly with min and i love it there. I have been told to take a trip down to the serpentine field apparently its good fun down there but i havent made it yet.
  12. hey there qwerty The school offers plenty of support but what i meant was there are no classes for a group of people to study. And as for the flying times it suits me perfectly as i can only allow myself about 3 hours a week of free time. I love the school the people and everything is fantastic and suits me to a T. I checked around with alot of schools before I chose this one. I have the Aviation Theory Centre BAK and FTM and they are good but a study group would be fantastic for me as I find it hard to retain information just from reading, but thankyou for your comments:thumb_up:
  13. @thruster87: sorry I cant be of much more help. surely it wouldnt be to hard to find out which of these nav's use windows running systems if it doesnt say it on the ebay page maybe contact the seller. as far as other running systems im sure there is another product that can apply to it. @slartibartfast: awesome I will check that thread out now.
  14. @Tomo: is that right? I would a thought they way it was designed and built it would have been an easy pass for them. But i have very little experience.Im hoping one day to take a trip to the manufacturing plant to have a look around. @Brett Campany: G'day fellow west aussie this forum looks awesome. im flying at Jandakot with minovation hows about yourself where do you fly from?
  15. yeah the lady who runs the flying school was i think the first person to recieve the boomerang and did a write up for flying australia. She loves it also and thinks it is one of the best trainers she has ever used. and if this is a sign of his work I will follow a little more closely from now on
  16. please excuse my ignorance if i am way off the mark here as i am pretty new to the aviation industry and extremely new to this forum. But are you interested in setting up a navigational item for flying???? if so i did read a post about a guy flying around australia and used a navman s150 and loaded it with some software that worked just fine as the navman already runs a windows based platform. here check it out for yourself. Middle Marker | adventures of a wanderlust pilot ... scroll down just a little bit till april 22nd
  17. hey there nev and thanks for the welcome. To be totally honest I have only flown to other planes and only for 1.2 hours each one was a piper PA 38 tomahawk and a piper PA28 Warrior so I dont have a great deal of knowledge for comparison. But overall and without much knowledge I must say it is a fantastic little plane and you can tell alot of thought and hardwork have gone into it. Its very strong and robust and handles crosswinds of up to 25 knots fairly easily. I love the damn thing if I could buy a 6 seater identical to it I would. Jay
  18. How is everyone doing that there in aviation land???? well I hope I just found this site today and I am glad of that. I have been learning to fly for about 8 months now and have slowly built up 20.2 hours of flying with 3 of them solo. well thats all for the moment but glad to be here.
  19. Hey there everyone, I just found this forum today and I am very happy that I did. I have been learning to fly for about 8 months now and have done 20.2 hours and of that 3 hours solo. I would love to fly more often but the school is very busy and only allows 1 hour or just over per week and its hard while paying off a mortgage. The reason I am posting is I am getting very close to sitting my BAK exam for GA and I was wondering if there was anyone else around who cared to have a chat about it. Ideally a few people getting together would be fantastic but I know what would be very rare. The flying school I am with doesnt have a theory program but we have good briefs before and after each flight. It would just be handy to chat to some people about the BAK before I attempt it.
