  1. hey darky I know you will get better advice than mine but what i did is: bought an olympus tough 8000 because i wanted a still camera thats waterproof and the video isnt to bad and i also bought one of those gorilla stands. video quality: gorilla stand: Gorilla Pod Original Camera TriPod Mini Camcorder Stand - eBay, Tripods Supports, Photography. (end time 03-May-10 06:15:09 AEST) this is a very basic setup that worked for me. overall cost about $550 with a waterproof tough camera. as far as sound goes im to useless to organise something like that but im sure it could be done somehow Jay
  2. what amazes me is the skill involved. your pulling very high g so when and then something goes very wrong and he had the sense to roll it level so quickly. i guess it goes to show why these pilots are some of the best in the world. he made it so he could walk away from this crash. hopefully he will be back on that horse in no time
  3. sorry slarti you are correct I was just doing a quick little demo. I know exactly what you mean as I fly in and out of YPJT and have to state all of that stuff plus QNH.
  4. hey darky hope the training is still going well. I have a bit of an idea that I got when looking at my VTC chart the other day. One thing you can do on the chart you use for transiting to and from the training area measure to a really noticeable area on the chart and use that as your reference point, Just like GAAP airports they can have a few reporting points. on your chart pick say 2 or 3 destinations that are 10nm out from the airfield and then everytime your coming in from the training area just make your call at that point: for example: "bunbury traffic this is _ _ _ 10 miles north east (and say where you are) now granted im only learning myself with 42 hours but I think it could work. if it sounds confusing darky pm me and ill try and explain it a little more. but essentially it is sort of a reporting position you have for GAAP aerodromes. you know its 10nm out from the airfield and everytime you come in if you go to that some place you will always be right. 5. i will try and make it down on sunday. its me and the missus 2 year ( not married) anniversary on the 18th and were going on a cruise the night before with free drinks for 4 hours so I will see how im feeling on sunday. if not in the morning then maybe after.
  6. im not a big on the aircraft type of person. but I wouldhave to say my favourite aircraft would be the Cessna corvalis 350. a beautiful sleek low wing aircraft that really looks the bizz and has some nice specs to go with it. Corvalis
  7. my personal preference when camping was always a little gas stove, but do to them not being safe at certain altitudes. I would have to go with my second favourite and one we used in high school many many times. a trusty trangia, love them to bits and very reliable, from memory its just metholated spirits you need and 1 litre will last many many cooking times. just my two cents worth. Jay
  8. I have only been playing with mine on the ground since getting it last week and ozi explorer yesterday but so far its amazed me. planned routes, set my own waypoints. its so easy and incredibly simple. once again thanks slarti. and anyone else toying with the idea of getting a gps for there plane try these before you try garmin (any model) you will not be dissapointed.
  9. thanks for that bit of info slarti, having wireless i opted to buy ozi on cd and will wait for it to rock up and then have a go at loading up and creating some of my own waypoints and if i get it sorted ill post them somewhere for other users. cheers for your help once again slarti
  10. hey slarti I received the unit today and it looks fantastic from the little mess around I have had with it. i thought I would post here instead of pm just in case anyone in the future has the same questions as me even though there probably very simple: 1) when looking at say the perth vtc when i scroll to where I want to go is it just a matter of holding down on that point and selecting track GPS. 2) I want to download oziexplorer, what I was wondering is can I load up the maps that are on the SD card to it or do I have to buy another set? Thankyou once again for setting up this unit. Jay
  11. hey there SERGIE, welcome to the forums and im sure you will have a ball here and get plenty of help. I recently got an Iphone and ill list the apps that i have: NAIPS: for weather and flight plan submission. about $10 Pilotwhizz: all sorts of conversions, heading calculator and weight and balance $0 free version Dial A Wis: has a hell of alot of contact numbers for airfields all over the place. $0 i think VFR communications: its for american air but its about 50 minutes of cleverly put together video with radio calls and a bit about airspace, good for students. and finally ATC 4.0: its a game but a great one. $10 well there the flying related apps i have on my iphone. just be warned that with NAIPS you will want a good mobile internet pack so you dont go over any limits.
  12. that little device looks pretty cool i might look into it. im currently using the training schools aircraft and none of them have cigaretted lighters. its something i will have a play around with it when i get it :) cheers for your help once again slarti.
  13. thanks for that slarti, it looks great, i had my first nav solo yesterday that went a little pear shaped but nothing that i couldnt fix, this unit will be a great back up to have when im licensed. what i was wondering is do you know what amps the batter draws??? i had a look at the website and couldnt see and noticed it only lasts around 2.5 hours, the reason I ask is from electus a supply company they have a multi votage solar panel for charging devices. cheers jay
  14. thanks ross and you got yourself a deal. let me know when and how you want payment and i will have it sorted by tomorrow hopefully at the latest. cheers jay
  15. hey slarti are you still doing the gps set ups for people? im very keen on getting a unit around the 5" size for flights around WA. getting close to PPL flight test and would love to have something as a back up with a selection of ALA's ready to go for when im licensed. If you are still doing this I am very keen on purchasing one from you. let us know either way. Thanks Jay
  16. im with slarti the video was a reenactment (possibly slightly over exagerated- but then again what story that has been told hundreds of times isnt? ) of what happened or close to what happened. but i think the story wouldnt be to far off the mark, as the History channel wouldnt want to tarnish there image with a fake story.
  17. hey keith congrats on solo. just wait till you get to do your first area solo and your actually flying around on your own its fantastic. im nearing the solo navex stage and I cant wait. keep up the good work :) Jay
  18. ah its not all that bad i clocked up 2.7 hours on sunday lol. its only heat after all, just keep your fluids up and you will be fine. invest in a camelpack. it takes a bit to get it feeling comfortable but you have up to 2 litres for your trip that is kept quite cool
  19. Hey congrats mike. glad to see it all went to plan, and i notice min has now started recommending the bob tait books a bit more.
