  1. im in the same boat as you. i work mon-fri and the only pilot shop in wa is closed on saturdays so i know what you mean. take a day and find two shops that have either one and compare is the only advice i can give you. that is if you are unsuccessful in finding a shop that stocks both. Me im waiting till september when im off to sydney to pop into a pilot shop and check out the lightspeed and bose. I will more than likely go with the lightspeed simply for the already setup bluetooth system. But i will only purchase after trying them both on my head. good luck Jay
  2. Hey dark from what i have read the battery life is around 40-60 hours. thats from owners and not from sales pitches. and its something that you dont have to have turned on at all let alone all the time. And I would highly recommend purchasing one of ebay if you can, make sure you check there feedback and aim for something around the 200+ sales and a feedback of at least 99.5% also ask them if they can mark it as a gift and you will be fine on import tax. good luck and let us know how you get on if you go this way Jay
  3. been slugged %70 of the time. its something to consider. if you blow your budget completely on the headset and then get hit with it its pretty annoying.
  4. if a proper contract is written you will be 100% fine. but make sure it is written correctly. hence the suggestion of getting a lawyer even if you have to pay for it to write up something. along the lines of what percentage is to be paid for hangarage, overhauls and upgrades. Then it can be broken down into sections according to how many hours you fly each. for example you cant make the other person pay 50% of overhauls if you fly for 75 hours and he only flies for 25 hours. Jay
  5. G'day AJ85WA i see your flying out of jandakot I to am aswell as another member that i know of mike. Best thing would be to pop into some flying schools and have a chat and ask if they can put a notice up on there boards stating your interest in a partnership of plane ownership. I suggest if you do be prepared to pay for a lawyers time to write out a contract signed by you and who ever else is interested. That way if something comes up your covered and there can be no question about what should happen. Jay
  6. hey dark, just remember when buying from usa and spending over 1000 AU you will be slugged with an import tax. I dont think its that expensive though. someone here might know what it is but i think maybe 10-15%. so if you do order from USA some zulu's just remember that so you have a few dollars left over for the import tax. unless you can kindly ask the shop your purchasing them from to state they are gifts like many ebay sellers do. I to am looking into some Zulu's and im going to sydney in september so i want to try a few headsets on before i purchase them. good luck though Jay
  7. Hey Flying dog, thanks heaps for the files. there all working and look fantastic. Just gotta wait for my new copy of excell to arrive so i can actually enter information into them. once again cheers for that jay
  8. I to had no luck, it says there is unreadable files that cant be found. What program did you use to zip it flying dog??? I have tried winzip and now PKzip which i have found has worked for every other file that could be downloaded
  9. another thing to think about is once you have got your license and if you think about a long trip is are you going to be able to stand earphones for the length of time you will be wearing them. I did consider that sort of headset but I thought about it and decided not to. me personally i cant wear headphones for more than an hour without them becoming uncomfortable and I have tried all sorts of headphones with my ipod. Thats why personally im saving up for a set of lightspeed's or bose's. I can wear headsets easily enough but don't like the clamping pressure either thats why I am looking into these headsets, but that is only my opinion. But if unlike me you can wear headphones for long periods of time they might be your best option.
  10. the other thing to look at was a set of these plugs that are actually moulded to your ears. Im trying to find them again because im not sure if or where there done in aus. But what they do is fill your ear with some expanding gel that expands and hardens. This way it takes the exact shape of your ear. I imagine if any are going to cut out noise these would be the best. I will try and find some more info on them and post it for your unless someone else already knows about them Jay
  11. I to looked at these headsets and from what i gathered there mainly for the more expensive planes that have much less prop noise in the cockpit. If your looking at a lightweight headset the Lightspeed Zulu's or the Bose X's are the way to go but there both quite pricey.
  12. I was informed by my instructor at Jandakot to make your downwind call and thats it while doing circuits. And then repeat calls from tower (clear touch and go, clear full stop etc) or coming in from the training area report 6 miles out, then 3 miles out and repeat instructions on how to join. Which are all procedures stated in the Jandakot visual pilot guide. and thats all the calls for arrivals i make
  13. thats a good point Dark and a very commendable approach. only do what you feel comfortable to do. I spoke to my instructor about it and she said all to often students dont go flying for all sorts of reasons, some of which arent a problem. Me i felt fine so thats why i went ahead with it. im only 24 myself and hope i never stop flying.
  14. Hey there again Dark Sarcasm dont let your flying time pass you by. take every chance you can to fly. I was recently just getting over the flu and then a cold. A bit of vicks vapor rub under my nose and in 5 minutes the eustachian tube was clear and could fly just fine. Easy test is get your insctructor to do a circuit and see how you feel. I was fine. good luck and keep it going
  15. hey there DarkSarcasm. I have myself only recently learnt to fly. and yes i have been taught to check the fuel levels manually with the dipstick prior to every flight i do. for the sake of 1 minute it could save your life. Also check the tanks for water from the inspection point before every flight and i do it after every flight, and also if there is a test point nearest the engine. my pre flights usually take about 5-10 minutes as i move slowly around the aircraft. also when you have a cold speak to your instructor about it as they may still take you up. I recently went up did a circuit to check that pressure build up wasnt going to be a problem and i was fine. we then went to the training area and practised engine failures good luck and keep it up
  16. thanks slartibartfast. i just found that site about 5 minutes ago. So i will havea good read of it. :) jay
  17. back to the topic at hand. I started my pilot license about 8 months ago. im hoping to achieve a PPL within the next 6 months. I never even knew about the RAAus side of things until I found this forum. But since I am already half way through my PPL im not going to stop. What is the deal with going from GA with a PPL to the RA side of things? is there a site I can check out, I have searched a little bit but to no luck.
  18. i personally think there insanely ugly but at the same time I think there a fantastic idea. chuck it in the back of the plane and you have the ultimate transport. I would like to see some australian company try and make one and improve its looks a little bit
  19. far out that was simply fantastic. some people just have to much time on there hands haha
  20. welcome to the forum Lightning Man. you will find all of the people on here very nice and helpful. I recently joined up and i am glad i did. good luck on getting back into flying Jay
