  1. I saw that you posted a D-Motor clip on this forum so I thought that you may have had one installed.

Yeah I have a 2200A in my Xair. I posted that video of the D motor as I was searching the net. Another possible alternative again just needs more flight hours to prove its concept.

  2. Interesting; was the 'smart' person actually asking questions or just in the main telling Ian what his (the person's) opinion was? Questions are good when genuine information is being sought; pretty useless waste of time when they are just a way of forcing one's opinion down everybody's throat. There's plenty of the latter goes on with Jabiru engines..

He was just plan rude he would talk over Ian, Wouldn't allow Ian to finish answering his question. Question are an essential part of these gatherings but you don't have to be down right rude about. I went back to Camit display a couple of times during the course of the day my opinion I think Ian has a good product it just needs time in the air to prove its reliability.

  3. They were there, hi-vis waistcoats and all, but there were very few planes to ramp check or even say hello to.

There were a lot of people wearing Hi Vis vests. Yes plane numbers were down for what ever reasons I had a good time meet a lot of people from all corners of the country, Had a good look around Temora's township thanks to the courtesy bus. I enjoyed myself. Beats the hell out of going to work!

  4. They had a stand at NATFLY the engine on display was a very neat & well built engine. Couple of noticeable changes they run a alternator, the base of the barrels are thicker. The was always a crowd at the stand every day I was there & the chap that ran the stand was well informed with his product & even being bombarded by one blokes smart arse questions. My personal opinion I think its a lot stronger engine than the one Jabiru is selling. But the only way to prove it is flight time to see how it will hold.

  5. Thanks eightyknots great read.Metalman I realise there are huge advantages to a 912 but I have two issues. The difference in price means the difference between flying sooner or waiting a lot longer to purchase and secondly it might be a sick fetish:sorry: but I love 2 strokes.

BLA82 If your at Temora for Natfly over Easter I plan on flying my Xair Hanuman there your welcome to have a look over it.

  6. Sorry to hear what has happened to you. I know insurance isn't the cheapest thing around but having that public liability is peace of mind. The SAAA work in conjunction with QBE insurance for its members for cheaper policies. Does RAA Aus have anything on offer to its members? If not might be something the members could put to the board at the next AGM.

  7. Having done some research and spoken to a client familiar with the X -air it seem to me that the construction is very similar although the Skyranger appears to be a simpler construction. It is certainly stronger in the undercarriage and generally appears more robust. The biggest point of difference to me is the fact that the X-air will only take a maximum 80 hp whereas the Skyranger is happy to accept 100 hp (much more robust) giving an extra 10 knots extra in cruise. Most 100 hp Skyrangers cruise at around 90 knots, I believe the X-air would struggle at 80 knots cruise with 80 hp.As to the strength of the straight tube and bolted construction, I have seen the results of three accidents involving Skyrangers (none the fault of the Aircraft) where you would expect some serious injuries to the occupants. In all three cases the occupants escaped with only very minor injuries and some bruising. Two of these aircraft are flying again at minimal expense.

I believe there are also supply issues with X-Air at present.

As the Australian agent for Skyranger and Nynja I am not unbiased but I am trying to be objective.

    Greg.

Hi Greg I own a Xair I just correct you mine does cruise at 80 knots no problem. 8o hp engine is all that the xair will fit. They now are fitting the rotax 912. Xair have been brought out & are in the proces of moving factories hence the delay in supply at the moment. I have flown a Skyranger & both aircraft fly very similar, I nearly brought a Skyranger back in 2004 off Jean Cloude' what made me choose the Xair over the Skyranger firstly $$$ Xair was cheaper & what was included in the Xair Kit was an optional extra in the Skyranger kit. 2nd was the fuel tank setup, which I believe has been changed now. Both excellent aircraft the build is very similar. I think if you are in the market to buy you have to fly both aircraft & work out what suits your needs best no matter what kit you purchase you will end up with a excellent aircraft.

    Hope this helps.

  8. Also the 912 is heavier and needs a radiator and oil tank and despite what you say they do stop and they have been known to break crankshafts and sprague clutches I also have a H with a jab in it and I'm very happy with it light quiet and good on fuel.

I have a Hanuman with a Jab engine. I cruise at 80 knots 2800-2850 rpm 16 lt hour. Mine is VH registered I have to have an instrument 8 ever 2 years so I know the ASI is calibrated correctly. Great plane to fly excellent price & running costs if your on a tight budget.

  9. Has anybody had experience with using Pearl in their paint ? and does the pearl go in the base coat or in the top coat ?The effect I am after is to take a mauve/ lilac from a solid colour where it joins up against a striking color, then fade it as it gets further away .

Something like the light color purple that Toyota used in their Starlets. If you looked directly at them you would see the purple, but by looking at them from an angle they appeared to be a lighter shade of purple then disappearing into silver once you looked along them .

Hi Ron the pearl does not go in the base. You lay your base color down let it flash off then lay your pearl allow that to flash off then your clear. What you need to do first though is spray at least 3 small color cards label them 1,2,3 on the first card you put 3 coats of base 2 coates of pearl, 2nd card put 3 coats of base 3 coates of pearl, 3rd card 3 coats of base 4 coates of pearl then on them all put a coat of clear on. by doing this you will be able to work out how much pearl you need to get the effect your after it will say you time & material when it comes to putting it on the job.

If you need any more info Im happy to help out.

  10. Hey XAIR, you may have misunderstood what I was trying to say here.As an RAA pilot, you do not have to carry a medical unless you are an instructor or are required to for medical reasons. RAA aircraft are not issued with Maintenance Releases which is why we need to have those little stickers displayed saying that people fly in these aircraft at their own risk.

If you are checked at a fly in such as Natfly then it would be fairly reasonable of the inspector to assume that you have flown from somewhere else to attend and they are really asking if you have done sufficient flight planning according to the rules to safely conduct the flight. My reference to what the MTOW was tongue in cheek as it has always been a standing joke that the aircraft is not ready to fly unless the paperwork equals the take off weight - a joke so lets keep it that way hey!!!

I applaud your attitude but it is fully within the inspectors right to ask if you have done a weight and balance or other planning which is not in your list

I knew what you were saying as I also fly RAA as well as GA.
