  1. Hello folks can any one confirm or deny a roumour that we can refuse a ramp check, if approached by the CASA inspector are we at liberty to tell them to go away, is this correct or do they have the legal authority to carry one out against your will.

You can refuse But be prepared to walk home. Not a good idea especially when all it takes is to carry a couple of up to date doccuments. A lot less of a hassel than going down the other path.

  2. And your MTOW is how much??These refer specifically to a VH registered aircraft which is where the regulations fall down. How is it that ag pilots can get away with a Gregory's street directory in a professional capacity and we have to carry more crap than can be carried on a shovel?

If you can prove that you plan to fly safely then the problem will not exist. If you want follow the rules then we do not have a licence (Certificate), do not require to carry a medical, do not require a maintenance release or a manifest of passengers so if you can get hold of the copy of the Flight Manual that is being used to prop up the passenger seat then you are legal for RAA[/quote

What are you guys going on about not carring this crap whats my MTOW . All you have to carry & show the inspector's is your licence, medical, flight manual, maintenance release that is all you are required to show them. Yes it is written for VH aircraft but doesnt RAA pilots have their licence & flight manual with them. http://192.69.222.91/attachments/ramp_check-1-pdf.21957/ Photocopy this link it is 1 page thats it, put it in your flight manual. Half way down the page there is a heading titled WHAT YOU NEED TO PRODUCE there are 5 items listed If you are an RAA pilot there are 2 items out of the 5 you will have.

    Not rocket science guys.

  3. So you use prekote then a undercoat and then a topcoat? so there is still a 3 coat system?....what about the PPG system only 2 coat system

Prekote is a liquid you use with scotch brite you then wash the part down with water dry then prime. If the aircraft is painted in HS it is only 2 coats, If it is painted in COB then it is 3

  4. Hi Mark, I'm interested in that comment about leaving out the middle undercoat. This leads to a few questions:1. Why did you decide to put the middle coat on in the first place?

    2. Is anything compromised by leaving off the middle coat?

    3. Overall, how much time would be saved by not applying the middle undercoat?

    4. How much weight would be saved if this middle undercoat was not sprayed on? (this one might be hard to estimate)

Im painting an RV 12 at the moment I do this for a living. I use a product called Prekote this preps the surface you dont need to etch primer if you use Prekote. The catch is you have 24 hours to prime once you have used the prekote. So you only prep what you can prime within that time. Even though I do this for a living Im very happy to help anyone out with free advice. 100_7662.JPG.76b716c664721c6ee81a0702a21016ac.JPG

All the above parts have been prekoted & ready for primer. Its not hard just time consuming Preperation.

  5. Yes. They have removed all my post's with the noise assessment and flood study 'evidence' aswel. And im blocked aswel. Its ok, im pretty sure the battle is over. Theres no new info on there, any one watching the page would have gotten the message. Now its time for stage 2. Im going to get our entire club to write to 'Joanna Gash' the mayor as per JBAAGs request.

Im going to make sure the FB saga is brought to the attention as point in case for the groups deception and lies. I encourage any one else who felt it dodgy to do the same.

The real clincha for many is the fact that the club is not for profit. We have no money and this group know that and are hoping that we cant afford to defend ourselves. They have alot of sydney money (weekend holiday farmers) and the tactic is to basically starve us out.

Pretty low really when you think about it..

    Motz

I wouldnt write to Joanna Gash I would go she her in person with all doccumentation & fellow aero club members.

  6. So an Australian company produces an aircraft for sale in Australia which must not be operated in temperatures above 38C ??.

I was at Bathurst last weekend at YBTH Saturday 39 degree heat Sunday 37. There were plenty of Jabiru aircraft doing circuits & flying around all day. Horses for courses some people like them some dont.

  7. This subject really gets a lot of different opinion's on who can & can't do what.Maybe this should be a workshop topic to be covered at NATFLY. In my position I know what I have to do & follow with the maintenance of my Experimental VH reg aircraft. All I need to know is if I purchase from the factory a new aircraft registered RAA can I as the owner do the maintenance on that aircraft, Im not talking about any modifications just maintenance in accordandance with the manufactures maintenance manual.

  8. If Tony has built a GA reg plane and done the maintenance course, I would think that he would be esponsible enough to work out what he should or should not do to a factory built plane. I don't know how much more he would need to do to become a level 2 maintainer. To use the maintenance release and CASA schedule 5 would be a good idea for RAAus owners. No need to comply with the letter of the law, just use it as a guide for maintenance.

Your on the ball there Yenn schedule 5 is a great guide line to follow & a good idea for all who do their own maintenance.

The SAAA MPC has nothing to do with actual hands on work but is about the responsibilities of the owner/builder/maintainer, and yes you can only maintain the aircraft you have built . CFI, I think we can , as L1's maintain our own ultralight regardless of the reg number, it's only when we invoke paying customers that the maintenance gets more serious, that's my understanding of the regsMet

You are right the MPC has nothing to do with hands on work its all about the REG's, but in completing this course it gives you the right to do the maintenance on that aircraft you built & issue the MR. Yes I am quite capable of doing a full annual which I have done on prevouis aircraft I have owned. Im glad i posted this question cause it has highlighted some misconceptions that need to be put into spec.

  10. I built my aircraft & its reg VH I did the Maintenance course through the SAAA to allow me to sign off & issue the new MR. If I purchase a factory built aircraft new from factory Reg RAA Can I still do the maintenance myself & issue the new MR.

I ask this question only because I have had different answers & different intereptation of what can & can't be done.

    Cheers Tony

  11. Hi Brett there is a web site that has been set up by Sonex builders in Australia the site address is sonexaus.wikispace.com.au they have a list of all builders in Oz & its a great site for info on the sonex. My next project that I want to build once I get permission of the old ball & chain.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

  12. First of all, you do not have to be involved with SAAA in any way to build and register a home built aircraft, secondly the reason we have the home built fraternity is so that people can have the joy ( frustration) of building and flying something they have created, and thirdly ,nearly everyone I've talked to laments the fact that we are completely over governed in this country, when I started on the RV6 I rang CASA to be sure that I could actually build my own aeroplane , guess what he said YES, how friggin awesome, I can do this at home ,build it, test fly it, and if it kills me then so be it , but I have been given the right to do something and take total responsibility for the out come . It seems to me that this is almost the last place I can think of where the guvmint will let you risk your own life and leave you alone to do ( perhaps yachting inter country) so please there is a lot of stuff wrong but please don't start to complain about a bit of freedom we still have

I didnt say you had to be involved with the SAAA .Nor is anyone complaining about the freedom we have. The whole purpose of this is so dont kill yourself & some other inocent party.

Not sure if you have finished building your RV as yet but if you do get an AP from CASA to issue your C of A it will cost you more through them than it will through the SAAA. Back to my original comment this is why the RAA should have structures like this not to add more regulations but to give assistance to builders.

  13. Not wishing to go on a complete tangent to your thread, but this is why I have always said that home built aircraft of any type (GA/RAA/UL) should be under the auspices of the SAAA, who already have a more than adequate inspection schedule and monitoring/accreditation processes. Even if you are not building to full blown "Amateur Built/Home Built" status, it would be wise for a builder to maybe contact SAAA and organise an inspection by people that have a more experienced and less biased set of eyes than the builder. My second comment would be to Gary Morgan - If he is responsible for the design and any subsequent modifications, then he should be able to get the airworthiness certificate withdrawn if it is deemed as an unacceptable modification. I hope from the inference of the other topic that this is what has happened.

The RAA should be doing what the SAAA is doing in regard to inspection. The SAAA also have TC technical Councilors within each Chapter the builder of an aircraft can get good sound advice on their build. Part of your C of A is you need a minumin of 3 TC reports. Gives you good peice of mind that your aircraft is built sound.

    Cheers

  14. I have decided to put a strip on the farm at home. As can been seen from the photo, the area is basically level , however as this paddock has been previously ploughed and then seeded and returned to pasture there is small hips and hollows down the selected site. I have considered running the grader down the strip to just take off the high spots, another thought would be to either plough over and over or rotory hoe then drag smooth with mesh or similar.Clearly I need the grass to grow back quickly and thick. Has anyone faced a similar situation and if so, what did you do and what was the end result??

Just looking at your picture first thought would to run a grader blade to level off as much as possible in doing that I would put a slight fall on both sides for water run off. See what grass grows back you might have to sow some grass seed in places, but from your picture it looks like you have a good growth happening in your soil.

    Cheers

  15. To All Interested RAAus Members,A response has been received today from SR as a result of sending an earlier email to him today about giving serious consideration to appoint an Adminstrator today due to the catastrophe that currently exists with regard to the grounding of aircraft.

He advised that Neville has notified him yesterday that "He informed me yesterday that the processes being used are improving & they are starting to make real progress with the backlog"

He further stated that an Administrator will not be appointed because the Board have started the process of recruiting a new General Manager.

It was made clear to SR that Michael Coates was advised by the RAAus office earler today that no new aircraft had as yet been registered.

Therefore one must ask themselves is that real progress or going backwards, & therefore since we little people are not privy to the same information that the Executive Board are it is apparent that we are on different pages.

Since the registration catastrophe is suposedly making real proghress , SR has been requested to post on the official RAAus website today the actual number of aircraft that have been the actually registered as at close of business today.096_tongue_in_cheek.gif.d94cd15a1277d7bcd941bb5f4b93139c.gif

The answer on the web site as of 10.40pm........NONE!
