  1. WOW that engine price sounds good. Who would you get it from ?
  2. I'll need to sell the Thruster TST first to make room in the garage. Thank you for your offer. Everytime I do the sums on the Zodiac XL the costs keep going up = QB $30,000, Jab 3300 $18,800, FWF kit $5000, Prop $1000, Avionics $15000,Misc $2000 Total $71,800. Budget $50,000 Cheers
  3. The engine setup is the where you could save big dollars. The Smart car Turbo Diesel sounds interesting and if it really does put out 82hp and the price is right!!!!!! maybe worth a look. One thing I would like to know is how easy or hard is it, to remove and re-install the wings? for ease of trailering. Cheers
  4. What options did you go with ? Which engine will you use? Which instruments are you thinking of putting in it ? Cheers
  5. Does this mean that Sport Air on the Gold Coast now has NO stock left because of you buggers getting in early [as they only had 3 in stock]. It will be interesting to see if the AUD reaches parity with the USD by Christmas. This would mean a Zodiac XL for only $18200.00 delivered for the std kit and $26500.00 for the QB kit delivered plus any options.Jabiru 3300 + f/f kit $22,800.00 as of today +$5,000 for instruments. So for under $50,000.00 a lot of A/C. Think I might get one Cheers
  6. Just went out today to do my 90 day check + 3 landings [hadn't flown since Nov 2006 ] and it did put a smile on my face. Anyhow got talking with a couple of fellow tall/wide pilots about which a/c they may build and two of them said the Brumby. But at $43,000 AUD it seems a bit expensive compared to the Zodiac XL quick build kit at $30,000 AUD [or std complete kit at $24,000] and $30,000 + for engine and instruments for either on top.
  7. Anyone have thoughts on which kit they would want to buy and why? the Zenith Zodiac XL or the up and coming Ausie Brumby Cheers
  8. Howdy, In commercial aviation electrical cable ends are crimped rather then soldered to minimize fatigue cracking again for the long haul. Your kit seems to be coming along nicely. Cheers
  9. Howdy, Using adhesives on Alclad may cause problems due to corrosion if they contain chemicals which react with water to form acids etc or as an example silicon sealants may release acetic acid when curing. So for the long haul do check the suitability of all adhesives prior to use. Cheers

    TOSG Bulletin

Thanks for that Tony [he also did mention he puts in stiffer batterns to keep the skins nice and tight. He also had a set of lift struts which he wanted about $1000.00 for the pair] A very interesting chap. Cheers

    TOSG Bulletin

I as well look eagerly to the bulletin. Cheers [spoke to a another Tony in Leeton who seems to know a bit about Thrusters as well.He said he had modified the wing angle of incidence so as to make the a/c behave better on landing and something about the wing washout couldn't quite understand what he had done.He said his Thrusters would cruise at 80-85knts]
  12. I'm thinking of coming in the Connie [super constellation] or the c47 will see how it pans out.So please save a spot as well. Cheers
  13. I invite fellow Forum members to enjoy some unusual airport codes: Perm, Russia (PEE) Pocos de Caldas, Brazil (POO) Butler, Missouri (BUM) Sioux City, Iowa (SUX) Samcheok, Korea (SUK) Fukuoka, Japan (FUK) Dickinson, North Dakota (DIK) Sembach, Germany (SEX) La Esperanza, Honduras (LEZ) And that’s not even getting into the politically incorrect ones: Jacksonville Naval Air Station, Florida; Nikunau, Kiribati; Fagurholsmyri, Iceland; Punta Renes, Costa Rica; Kalakaket, Alaska; Woodgreen, Australia; and Aboisso, Cote D’Ivoire. 18. This is the pic of the setup and so far so good but only done a few hours to date Cheers Should mention I've changed to a 5/8th axle[High tensile bolts].To do this you need drill/grind the leaf spring very slowly or with coolant.

    pod fixing

On my TST I used Aviation ADEL 815W24 clamps to hold the pod at the front A frame.I find these to be better then the jubilee clamps.Cheers

In the aviation industry there are many requirements and good practices. The fire sleeve installation is but an example of Rotax Owners Assistance Network at the following site http://www.rotax-owner.com/support/ROAN%20fireSleeve%20info.pdf. Also of interest: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) AC No.20-7N, General Aviation Inspection Aids Summary, recommends, "all flexible flammable fluid carrying hoses in the engine compartment be replaced at engine overhaul or every five years which ever occurs first". Cheers Alan

Hi, Please be aware of the following requirement/good idea [Fire sleeve ends must be "end dipped" to prevent fuel or oil from wicking into the fibers. The end dip is p/n 5027 from Stratoflex or AE13702-003 by Aeroquip The fire sleeve must cover all the hose and more than 2/3 of the fitting. None of the rubber hose can be exposed. For push-on fittings the clamp on the hose must be flat to allow the firesleeve to cover the end of the hose. A gear, pinch or screw clamp is not suitable. "AQP Socketless" hose from Aeroquip (automotive high performance division) does not require or allow a clamp. As suitable flat clamps are hard to find you may have to use a crimped or "field attachable" multi-piece fitting. The clamp on the outside of the firesleeve must be steel or stainless steel, no plastic allowed. Clamps of this type are available from: Oekter http://www.oetiker.com Band-it http://www.band-it-idex.com The firewall must be sealed and all opening to the cockpit (rubber/non-steel grommets for the wires and control cables) must be protected with stainless steel covers to prevent fire passage into the cockpit. The hose end fittings should be steel or stainless steel. ] Cheers
