  1. Selection criteria for Zodiac 601XL 1. I like metal [non-current LAME Engines/Airframes] 2. Price/Engine Choices 3. Cabin width 44†4. Useful payload /Range 5. Cruise speed above 110kts 6. LSA 600kg MTOW and new wing design 7. 1000+ flying 8. Looks /Design of structures 9. Removable wings[only if needed for transport] 10. The most important the wife let me buy it. These are most of the reasons and I haven’t come across anything negative yet but its’ still early days Cheers T87;)
  2. Westcoast, Please have a look at this article Cheers T87 http://www.rotax-owner.com/support/ROAN%20fireSleeve%20info.pdf
  3. Working on it.Seems there may be hiccups with Zenith with tying things together so everything arrives at the same time. Cheers [for the complete airframe kit it is 10% min deposit then on dispatch from Zenith 90% 3 months later, freight payment is when it arrives in OZ.FWF kit pay when you order, thats' what needs to be sorted]
  4. Jabiru FWF $3729 incl GST extras cabin heat $560.00 + dual throttles $250.00 Total $4539 incl.GST + freight? Zenith cowls fit better, engine mount fits better.NO fiberglass work needed on air scoops etc. Save about 200-300 hrs building/fitting/mucking around time if you get the Zenith USA kit
  5. Just a thought. It would be cheaper to order the FWF kit with the Aircraft kit to save on shipping and port charges. The Zenith FWF for the Jab 3300 seems a better kit then the OZ one. Cost around $4000.00 USD including:Firewall Side Mount Hardware $15.00 Engine Side Mount Hardware $27.00 Engine Mount $695.00 9" Spinner Assembly Kit $185.00 Sensenich ZK Series Prop Bolts $36.00 Sensenich Propeller $845.00 Oil Cooler Kit - J Style Mount $329.00 Oil Recovery System $129.00 Fuel System Firewall Forward $59.00 Carb Heat Filter Box Zenith $299.00 Carb Heat Components less airbox $120.00 Prop Extension 63mm $196.00 Battery Box Assembly $39.00 Zenith CH601 Cowl System $695.00 Single Friction Lock Throttle System $99.00 Choke Cable Components $24.00 Component Total $3,768.00 Complete Kit (all of above as a package) $3,550.00 Dual Friction Throttle (optional) $199.00 Cabin Heat System Zenith (optional) $319.00
  6. Brasso has been used to buff/polish clear coats/gel coats/two part enamel paints etc with good effect as it only has a mild solvent and is not acidic but to be on the safe side always try it on a small part first. All the rage at the moment is polishing Cd's and iPods with Brasso. Cheers
  7. Brasso works very well on Plexiglas/perspex/Lexan etc.Keeping in mind that if you go too deep the optics will change. So just a light rub should do it using a soft material. Cheers T87
  8. I use Brasso as well with excellent results to remove the stains/light scratches and this is on our vintage C47s' [DC3].You can can cut with fine wet/dry any deeper scratches then polish with the Brasso.Best to do by hand as you don't want any heat generated during the process.Cheers T87 [tooth paste is also used on glass/windscreens but again minimize the heat especially if using power tools]
  9. With all the commotion of burnt valves etc on the 3300 might consider alternatives like the TMX O-200 Fixed Pitch (100 HP) 23"x 31"x 28" 215 Lbs. 100% New Parts $17,995.00 USD + freight+ GST
  10. No there is a OZ agent in Coolangatta Airport QLD, Australian Wings Academy who have been very helpfull and the price one pays is what is on the Zenith USA site. They have just completed building a 601xl demo, which will do the air shows in the near future [it went to the Cowra show].Cheers T87
  11. Thank you for your offer Flyer40 as I'm sure it would benefit both.Looking at the engine options I'll go with the Jab 3300 but I won't have to decide for a couple of years so there may be better option then. The only options I ordered were the Aileron Trim kit,Wing lockers,Wheel Fairings ,the Aileron piano wire hinges and two machine heads for the pneumatic rivet gun [as I already had one] Total $17,411.00 USD including crating of $535.00.The freight costs to OZ all up about $2400.00 ish AUD Cheers T87
  12. Just put my deposit down for a Zodiac 601xl. All things going to plan should arrive end of Feb or early March. Will need a Zenith 601xl section soon as there are a few more kits arriving next year for other keen builders. Cheers T87
  13. Hi Robert, Have a read of the following RAA post first http://www.auf.asn.au/operations/regulations.html#9555_12 as it should shed some light on your dilemma Cheers T87
  14. Weather permitting some Jaspers Brush members will be flying to Holbrook for the week end [3/4th Nov] and some will use this as part of their cross country training.Me being one so can't make it to Echuca Cheers T87
  15. Maybe a Incidents & Accidents section under GA or Aviation News wouldn't go astray and remove any issues. Cheers T87
  16. [it's a high-wing, all metal, it's quite roomy at 36 inches cabin width] That's a bloody tight fit. I think you may have meant 46" Cheers T87
  17. [ATTACH]4102.vB[/ATTACH] New Political Promises
  18. Welding 4130 FAQ [ATTACH]4076.vB[/ATTACH] Hopefully this should help, keeping in mind the weld in structures has to be a good one.Factory built A/C can only be welded by a Certified A/C welder. Cheers T87 FAQ4130N.pdf FAQ4130N.pdf FAQ4130N.pdf
  19. [Apologies if this has sounded a bit convoluted or technical ] Nothing of the sort, this is the type of info which I really enjoy reading as I'm approaching the day the TST will fly again and me in it hopefully at the controls. Cheers T87
  20. By reducing the AOI would mean coming in at a higher angle with respect to the boom and the possibility of the tail wheel making contact first? [considering 55knts approach speed]or would the approach speed need to be higher and come in flatter at the flair? Cheers
  21. Do you think putting out the hat to the thruster owners out there, would be of any benefit to you in getting this mod completed, with a lot less stress. As I would be willing to help Cheers.
  22. Just to recap what changes would need to be done to the front spar attach fitting to accomplish the reduction of the Wing Angle of Incidence ? Cheers
  23. On doing a bit more research on the corvair engine it seems they not all that durable compared with the purpose built aircraft engines [but that's to be expected as they are half the price]. If you want to do snap rolls or other maneuvers which subjects the crank to such loads watch out!!!!!! so it's back to the drawing board. The Jabiru 3300 or Rotax 912uls is starting to look good especially if you get caught out in heavy turbulence.Cheers
  24. Can Darren Bannfield import these engines + all the required bits? Cheers
  25. That's what was quoted by Sport Air on the Gold Coast for a complete panel already made up [with Dynon glass]. But you can choose different avionics or buy second hand instruments etc to save . cheers
