  1. Another design is being worked on is a 13.5m self launch ( there is a new 13.5m class) The problem with the SF27m we have is that for us with bad backs the tail end is far to heavy to lift, and it is a pull start, I have started in the air, but the Hirth motor has a starting process to get it going, and it takes time . I have the fuse moulds from one I made a few years ago some small changes will be made, the main new design to the fuse is a steel frame fitted inside the glass shell for the wing /retract wheels and motor. It will have the main wheel just art of the wing spar with a nose wheel so it will almost balance on the main wheel, like a K7 . The main problem is designing a wing that will perform ,and making it so it is simple for a home builder. Wing loading must be around 30kg m The wing will be a glass spar, foam ribs , the skin can be layed up on a sheet of metal and then just bonded . the ribs can be made like a model aircraft 12mm foam cut and bolted to a templet each end, and cut to shape , much like a sapphire wing. By the time we get the motor glided finished I hope to have the new design alsost complete , It will be finished this winter, in about a month we will catch on work at hand and have a few guys full time on it . I am hoping GFA will accept my paper work on design , They have a better out look on safety and design then RAA and SAAA For $4.00 I can do a hole days flying puts a lot more fun into it .
  2. Once you get over about 108 kts you should mass balance, many of the imports go to so much trouble so save weight, the last thing they will do is add lead to the aircraft. many of there wing top skin show buckling in level flight, showing the design and low strength and stiffness, which will have a short lift span, some of the import hand books are stating a 10 year life, I was looking at buying a LSA glider but its 10 yrs is up and only 30hrs TT ?????????
  3. I find gliding the most instering form of flying working out what the air is doing, I started out h/g went gliding back to h/g when I got married, u/l and gliding. I now have a sf 27self launch but is heavy in the back end, so now I am building a Touring motor glider 17m two seat , and next will be a 12m self launch which will be very easy to lift the rear end ( my back is not as good as it used to be) but will have a wing load of 28kg sq m, will be easy on fuel and will do lots of hrs. I have been to 15k in h/g and gliders and flights of 8 hrs+ and climbs that you would not believe, the air is an every intersting challenge.
  4. The 3 aircraft are still waiting for a new home, the Cougar and the blue Sierra both have a 3.3 120 hp jab , for 65k it could be yours, the white Sierra 200 has a 2.2 jab and about 20hrs 48k . We also have a special on a Sierra kit, base fuse built, and wing spars built, for only 18,500 k ring me 02 65539920
  5. Get your facts right CASA in one sentence and RAA in another?? There are NO groundings
  6. Lofty can you tell me where, and what colour the cheetah was. the so called LAME that built one Sierra built his tail wrong and other things and no advice should be taken from him, If the guy got a letter why would it come from CASA, it would come from RAA. Many people think they know how to do things ,very few know.
  7. Our new Sierra will be VH rego and have the new Lyc. 233 engine. this also will allow a higher MTOW to 700kg the undercarriage will be 100mm higher for the larger prop this also will fit the Cougar, the nose leg will 11/2"dia. A transponder and a few new toys will be fitted. We are now an agent for the 233 motor.
  8. As a first touring motor glider being built under GFA I am providing the test flight program and info that others already have in place, this will go to GFA to look at while we build, and hope to have it all approved by the time it is finished. I have used some LSA and some SAAA test programes to see hope we go. It will be good to get the most out of gliding and touring, as I live on the coast one needs to just get inland a little to get good soaring. with my SF 27m you have to get airborne before the sea brease kocks out the lift by 11-12 am.
  9. At last GFA inspected the glider yesterday, and now we can start on closing up, the motor is mounted and will be working on it full time to make some quick progress.
  10. Hi Josh, I tried to ring you about your problem today,is the peddle sponge or does it go hard when pressure is applied? when bleding from the bottom to the top, you need to tap the peddle to get the air out of the cylinder, we worked on a break for 6 weeks to get it right because of air in the cyl.
  11. Hi there Tim, The MTOW will be raised to 950kg this is 50kg for the 0320 motor and 100kg for fuel in the wing tanks + the header 100Lt tank, C of G with 2 x 90kg in the front and 160kg in the back seat will require 1/3 fuel in the front tank to keep in the c/g range . On our web site is photos of our latest Cougar with some up dates. with the 3.3 Jabiru motor at 600kg it will cruise at 125kts, so with the 0320 150hp ( they seem to have the same fuel burn)you will have 140-150 kts cruise depending on load.
  12. When I was flying C/L stunt the lines ( soldered) only lasted about 25 flights and started to bind , I used fishing line trace, and just cleaned them with thinners , much easier to find and lasted for years.
  13. Hi Pete, I dont know how , but if you could E mail me ,could you do it Thanks
  14. I have been told that level 2 are next in line, watch out
  15. I have heard that level 2 are the next in line, and a lot will be wiped out.
  16. The fuse fuel tank is 100ltr, wing tanks will allow 100kg of fuel, The UL motor is still being tested in the 6cyl, where the 0-320 is a proven legend, the 3.3 jab can cruise at 130kts but better on fuel at 120-125kts ,so the 0-320 will be closer to 140kts cruise, for the RAA the 233 Lyc is a good alrounder.
  17. 1 Our cougar had about 100hrs TT Matco brakes, electric flaps. 2 Sierra 100 6cly jab about 180 hrs TT dual controls, matco brakes, electric flaps, elect trim, tint canopy. 3 Sierra 200 motor and 90% of airframe 20hrs TT it has it all matco brakes, electric adjustable rudder peddles L/H and manual R/H side, tint canopy, elect flaps. 2.2 Jabiru motor .was a 24- rego but will be sold as a 19- We are looking for offers for these aircraft as they must go. ring 02 65539920 or 0418253466. for photos please E mail us.
  18. The cougar now at 800kg MTOW will be adding another 150kg to 950kg MTOW this will allow a 0 320 lyc and 100kg of fuel into the wings. 140kts cruise good range and 4 good size people.and will still de rig into a trailor. VH of course.
  19. Snow you will need to change to 19- by getting a final inspection and all that goes with a new rego home built. The Jab motor cert. is now out of RAA hands and I am told it is now a CASA matter, dont know where this will go , But I think Rod will have the paper work . I hope for all the 24 Jabs out there . Just the lack of getting info from RAA and answers, The changes in medicals , for a lot of people the SAAA is looking very good,
  20. LSA after spending 2 years on our Sierra 200 having the first approval cancaled for some reason RAA wont tell us of replie to and E mails or post. we tried to go LSA and I think we are 90% there .I had a guy that has an appointment with CASA come to the hangar to look at the aircraft. There is no way this guy is going to pass anything. and to finish off he said my aircraft will never pass LSA with the Jabiru motor . So I wonder where this will end up ? This now i believe is in CASA hands who are looking at the Jab motor. I got a bit rude with a well know CASA guy and told them that no aircraft will fly in Aussie soon the way things are going.
  21. all our aircraft can be nose or tail wheel just turn around the main frame all our aircraft de rig in 5-10 min, easy for doing it each day, we did it for 20 yrs every saturday. If using a VW I would use 4 cyl not a 2 cyl but could be used , they dont have much power.
  22. If you are interested please ring the workshop, We are bussy with LSA stuff at present and some delays in getting them ready, but also there has been no/ little intrest in them so far,
  23. I had a guy follow me watching the tail and it was the tab that was moving not the tail doesent need balancing under 105kts
  24. I fitted a servo tab, dont know if it is still on it , if it is may be more spring tenson is needed, as i did have a little vibration in the early flying, and incressed the tension and it fixed it
  25. Good to see you have plane to go flying , the plane when i built it had a dual ing. i had fitted and an elect. fuel pump, the prop needs a lot more pitch to get the most out of it .many changes have been made over the years, but the wing rigging with the rear spring loaded drag spar , and pip pin was for quick rigging as we have to rig it every day .Hope you have a good time with it
