  1. Did you work out why it suddenly happened (at 250 hrs).Suddenly getting hot must have been result of something happening.

Nothing sudden, we monitored the situation and had a cut off if things got worse. To me the engine was sounding perfect, even when I did my BFR the instructor liked the sound, maybe too used to a 4 cylinder. About 3 cylinder heads were seaping oil after 25 hours and this was happening but there was a lot of oil the last 25 hourly.

  2. What happened at "250 hrs" please?

The engine ran hot and couldn't get much help from my lame. It wasn't till I found someone else that I got a solution but it was already on a downhill path.

He put a larger jet to richen the mixture, filed down the baffles a fraction to improve airflow and voila, the temps dropped 50C or more.

Unfortunately the heads are warped and leaking oil and I could get a rebuild but the estimate for that from Jabiru is quit high for a low hours engine. It's an early hydraulic lifter,

I ran the engine according to the POH and it is my first plane so a lot of learning in the process.

  3. You just put a vision in my head of a rotec in a Jabiru, what a sight. I got 250 hours out of my jab 6. That's why the last week has been interesting because I need a replacement and went to OzKosh with that in mind.

you come back to the same problem every time, The only replacements (as yet) are expensive ( $10K + more.) and/or unproven. The Jab 6 was/is? a nice R.A.A. engine. Cheap, powerful, (but with reliability problems for some) Probably the closest price/weight alternatives are all Auto Conversions. Honda Jazz . Suzuki Geo or Take-off BMW, or, if you have ground clearance and want an aviation engine? then ROTEC takes the biscuit. Maybe just hope that the "chinese" Jab works out well. (excuse sobbing sound)

  4. I'm at a loss. My 3300 only lasted 250 hours. I went to Ozkosh to see what's happening before I made the decision of which way to go. the Camit was looking preferable but wasn't 100% keen on converting my plane to a 24E.If I can believe Jabiru, I would wait till the new engine comes out but it's like Microsoft, this is the best product we've released but...

  5. Maybe it's just the jabiru I'm learning to fly in, but during runups there is only a tiny drop in rpm due to carb heat. Would this equate to significant power loss at full power?

I fly the j230 and doing an emergency landing with an instructor for a biannual I missed turning off the carb heat, I took off but the climb rate wasn't good and I caught it quickly. No significant danger but full power is different than run up power.

  6. I think Mudge is starting to get strict about wearing the card. There have been notices sent around. I haven't had one for a few years but decided to since Wagga is a nice stop from here and I go to Mudgee a lot. From memory, not many fences surrounding the entire perimeter of many airports.

  7. Circuits can be a challenge since there are some neighbours who complain a lot. Usually have to slip it in. I'm pulling power earlier in the circuit to get in these days. The J230 doesn't want to land some times. Turning base you really have to make sure you are coordinated.

As someone else said, not hard to get a cross wind and with all the trees and hangers, fun times.
