  1. Yeah a quick story about Kev, I went to get check out in his drifter while waiting to buy my thruster. We did the normal stuff like climbing decending all that jazz but it was the force landing that got my attention. He set me up above his mates field that had about 15 power lines running through it. Right! now what he asks! he then proceded to teach me how to deal with power lines and the safe way to find, aviod and go over or under them. All very legal as he has low level and ag endorsments (both RAA and GA) so I got more than my money's worth in the time I spent with him and that is why I have no problem telling you he is who I would recommend anyone to do training with. Adam. (Don't think he has a website but he has a add in the RAA mag) Walter flying school (I think!) Edit: He also has a tecnam and Sportstar (but do atleast try the drifter!)
  2. I secound Kev Walters school (Walters flying school or something like that) I have done some flying with him and he is blunt and to the point just they way it shoulod be, what you don't want it someone who is going to string you out and take all over your money! It some times comes off as rude but that is not what he is aiming at he is just not one to mix words. He is very experiance has lots of time on "real" ultralights such as drifters and all that early stuff. Plus he is an experianced GA pilot as well. Cabulture has some good schools but its not an easy airfield to fly in an out of as it is.... busy (looking for a better word!) Or if you really lucky hit up Tony (TOSG) as I heard he has his instructors rating back and is just biting at the bits to get back in the seat! (He is trying to cut back on flying as Kay is hitting him over all the aircraft projects he has sitting around the house!) but he is one very experianced instuctor. Note: Yes I am biased I know Tony and Kev through other means but they are EXPERIANCED! instuctors who have been around a long time and do it the right way! Adam.
  3. I'm usually pretty tired by the end of my week so I'm ultra strict on checklist use. Its on that last leg when you are already thinking about that first beer or what you have to do when you get home that you forget something simple... like fuel or gear and it bites you big time. So work out a system that works for you and then stick to it! Its a little early after only two navs but one will form and then just make sure you follow it each time (even if its only a 20 mile run to a mates place) Its when your half asleep and think your king of the world that aviation will come a prove you wrong! Adam.
  4. Gear Bolts not secured properly? A bolt failure? Lots of things but I can tell you it would be slightly upsetting for the owner!
  5. I'm sorry but to say our training is on par with the PPL isn't (in my opion) correct. Our training is good and safe but alot of that is because some of the schools are going beyond the RAA syllabus and actually teaching to the PPL standards. Its a completly different topic but I think thats another thing that the RAA need to look at very soon is the training syllabus but thats another thread!
  6. I'm going to jump in here and will probably get shot down for doing so. But as a Prof pilot flying all day everyday I, as most of the Ag guys do sometimes we get a bit lazy. What I will find myself doing is putting myself in a place where I know no one else will be (for myself 3 miles off shore ie out of alot of water) and using the radio as purely a secoundary means : purely listening watch with no calls made as I track up the coast. Now Ag guys usually fly between jobs at bellow 500' so there shouldn't be anyone else there they will have there radios on and if you made a call they will know you are there but you won't know about him. So he probably did know exactly where you where but because he would most likely have been in the air all day to save making an extra 20 radio calls a day (not saying its technically a good thing) he just kept off the air and used his situational awerness to stay out of your way. I don't know if this was the case on this day but I know it happens as I said its not perfect but sometimes it easier to let people get on with what they are doing and just stay out of there way. Adam
  7. Barefootpilot

    Sportstar

A few tecnams are the same you can mod the system to warm it up more and I know a couple of people who have but apparently Rotax are not really happy if you do it.
  8. Barefootpilot

    Sportstar

Yeah Dave's plane has always had very low oil temp, I flew it the day it arrived as yppf and I guess nothing has changed!
  9. So Tony thats where I got it from! I was always wondering why I did it but if I'm out there in the Thruster I'm alwasy mainting 2800' or 1300' and it has saved me already with a twin going straight over the top of me a couple of hundered feet above.
  10. I believe the guy who said that quote was an editor of a well know australian flying magazine. I will withdraw that if it is untrue but that was the caption underneath his name on channel 10. He's doing a great job at promoting aviation
  11. Turbo there is nothing saying at least 500' from cloud it is purely clear of cloud so you can have you tail sitting in it as long as your heads not. I'm not saying is smart but I am saying it legal. Jeppesen Reference is Vol 1 ATC AU-504.
  12. its clear of cloud bellow 3000' MSL or 1000' agl. Above 3000' its 1000' and 1500mtrs.
  13. I just had to say what an amazing day yesterday was I spent it at work going up and down the coast between Sydney Harbour and Newcastle Harbour and I must admit I haven't enjoyed work so much for a long time! (not that I complain!) Very few bumps even when it got hot in the afternoon and only 15 kts of wind you couldn't order anything better. I wasn't the only one getting his knee's in the breeze there was alot of RAA aircraft out and about from Warnervale and Summersby and I must comment they where doing a much better job than most of the GA guys on the radio and helping me find and miss them! Great Stuff lets hope the weather keeps it up! Adam.
  14. The last time we ended up out together Ross I don't think I would have minded sleeping just about anywhere by the end of the night! Although your the only person I have ever seen refused entry in the the Irish put in Airlie!
  15. It can't be 5 years Ian... that means I'm getting old!
  16. I would say it probably only just hit its head thats why it fell over so well. Or it could all be CGI stuff!
  17. I hadn't heard not good at least he walked away from it. Yeah that airpark is going to be an interesting strip!
  18. sorry the "pilot" did a great job!
  19. Very lucky he didn't spin in. not the perfect way to ditch!
  20. Whats better than a Mustang? 9 Mustangs! Ok not all of them in this photo but it was an awesome sight. (They also had 12 Spities flying as well)
  21. I always loved bringing a load of jumpers down. I've never had 17 people so scared in the aircraft before! You guys are happy to free fall and trust a bed sheet that you jammed into a backpack and you get nervous when you have to land in a plane! Eh jumpers if they didn't buy the beer I'd never hang out with them!
  22. Ha Ha sorry bout that! Ross (Maj Millard) and I go back a few years so you'll often find me reving him up a little. Aldinga is a very nice spot good luck with your training. Adam.
  23. Ross are you keep secrets from me??? Where is my invite?
  24. RE: Bankstown. Bankstown airport Corp don't want the aviation buisness that are already on the field let alone more so they won't be much help. We looked at trying to run some RPT flights from Bankstown and they are not in the slightest way interested as it meant they would have to do more work and would not make much more money from it. Its a sad state of affair old bankstown but thats what big buisness does to small GA. I wish everyone good luck with the RAA training. Oh BTW PPL students are allowed to fly through CTA without a CTA endorsment as long as its approved by the instructors and they have been trained for it so why should RAA be any different... oh that right because we are just a little organisation to be left out in the back waters!!!
