  1. Seems to be some confusion with the T.V stations. One claims it took off and had engine failure and managed to fly to a nearby paddock. The other claims the aircraft skidded off the end of the runway without getting airborne (and magically jumped fences without engine running). It would not hurt the T.V stations to at least briefly check story details. At least they did not call this a single seater, metal framed aircraft, a Jabiru like they did down Bairnsdale VIC earlier this year..... Also surprised it was not coated with the generic "Cessna" label too..
  2. Welcome aboard Dan... Also welcome back to the flying...........
  3. Compulsion, Jabiru told me I could have it as a option, This is also available when ordering a new Jabiru. I ordered a single stick, my LAME has fitted it to my Jabiru. My Jabiru J160 is 24 registered. The Single stick gives the illusion of more space. Only possible negatives more difficult to hold stick while working the brakes while taxing around when windy. Also only space for one push to talk button, limitation if used for training. I bought the following items from Jabiru spares back in Aug 2011 and purchased what the LAME thought we would need. The prices are from last year and exclude GST Jabiru part numbers: Qty 1 x 310508N Tube handle pivot long $28.29 Qty 1 x CPM3A003N Foam grip $3.85 Qty 2 x 3000A94 Washer UHMWPE 1x3/8x1mm $3.41 for two Qty 1 x 3000C84 Spacer control pivot $5.30 Reuse one of the cap and PTT buttons from the double stick. I hope this helps JWW
  4. Jetjr, What brand/ model of LED did you find that is suitable for fitting into the standard Jabiru NVFR fitting?
  5. Thanks to everyone who replied to my original post. Many options to consider now, and I will go off and get some pricing. Thanks again. JWW
  6. Hi JabSP6, I had looked at the standard Jabiru option, but as Frank Marriot pointed out they are really just 12V downlights. Also they are 50W each and according to Jabiru ,only one at a time can be lit, if you have two fitted. Would be nice to use the two landing lights together if you are caught out at Dusk, for the cost of purchase and install. JWW
  7. (Brilian_air) Brian, can you post a photo so I can see what your setup looks like? JWW
  8. Eighty Knots, thank you for the video link. I have already purchase the "Crazed pilot" version of LED strobe/landing but not keen on these. The LED case is not very durable and they are not weather/water proof. Later I found there is an ebay seller selling similar product for fraction of the price. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Set-Car-22-LED-Flashing-Emergency-Strobe-Flash-Light-/400309664109?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d3450b96d Water proof lighting is required, Sometimes we need to fly through a light shower or wash the plane without damaging the lighting/strobe systems. The Aeroleds look good, I will have a better look at their site.
  9. Hi folks, I own a J160 and have a question for actual Jabiru J160, J170 owners, Not Jabiru bashers. Im looking around for landing lights to have fitted that does not require cutting large holes in leading edges of wings. To keep power consumption down I was thinking about LED versions, as I have standard generator. Im looking around for value for money ,not $1000's of dollars just because they will be attached to a aircraft. Is there a decent set of landing lights with wig-wag that can be fitted to a "24" registered that wont effect certification? Does someone out there have some fitted so I can see how the look fitted?
  10. Welcome aboard Phillip, I had looked into buying and building a 50% kit from the Zenith dealer in Bendigo VIC. I did not have a garage so I gave in and bought a factory Jabiru j160. What state/region do you fly around?
  11. Thanks for the tip Linda, i will check antenna stub on Tuesday.
  12. This Jab is in Victoria with me now.. i have wheel spats on and flying school name removed.
  13. Blueline, My jabiru has microair radio that seems to work ok, but get static noise through the intercom while transponder is on . This can be worked out by turning the intercom volume up and down with the transponder running. Do you get static noise while transponder is on through the intercom in your Jabiru?
  14. HeleneCillie, Nice video, was the camera attached the wheel spat of leg for the under-rear view footage?
  15. Blueline, I own a J160 myself and curious. Was the original radio a "Micro air"? Also what transmit problem did you have?
  16. Mark, consider using a profile picture.... also introduce yourself in the "just landed" section
  17. Now that is a good invention......make life soooo simple!
  18. Welcome Jack, I learned to fly at Tooradin, It may take a little longer to learn due to constant crosswind. The crosswind become reassuring after awhile and I find landing straight into wind harder. In your profile aircraft is J170, What aircraft are you having lessons with, J160/ J170. The J160 floats less on hot days. Ron
  19. Hi Linda, I have been planning to visit Baccus Marsh and Ballarat. Did you and Brian build the j160, or was it purchased assembled? I Keep my Jabiru close to me at Riddles Creek Airfield YRID. I have had my Jabiru about ten months, engine has about 140 hours on it. In this time i still can not work out how much oil to put in. My aircraft mech has calibrated oil stick. If I put oil any where near the crosshatch section on oil stick it gets blown into the breather bottle. Does your J160 have a comfortable place to fill the oil up to? Ron
  20. Gareth, Like Guernsey replied, the best place to look for information is the Jabiru forum. Bear in mind a lot of people have very different thoughts, try to get views from people that actually own a Jabiru. After owning a aircraft for 10 months now, I realise I only need a two seater as friends and family stop coming out flying with me as the novelty has worn off and always seem too busy. These days I really only fly around by myself, and perhaps should of bought a J170 due to the 600Kg max take off weight instead of 540Kg. The Jabiru I have J160, is considered the sort of the middle size one of the range, each model size flies different so I can not comment on the J430. It’s also a good idea to arrange to fly a J430 way before purchase to allow comparison between other brands of aircraft. You have to consider the more seats and larger the aircraft the more it will cost to purchase and maintain. On the forums there are people who swear by ROTAX engines, and look down on the Jabiru's engine (holden vs ford sort of thing). The aircraft mechanic I use tells me the Jabiru composite airframe is nice and simple and keeps ongoing maintenance costs down. JWW
  21. Admin, I will message you directly to figure out..
  22. JWW thanks for the welcome, I have been flying longer than i first thought. Neil I have moved from Pakenham to over here after training at the Tooradin flying School in March 2008. A lot of my training was with Eugene, then Ian, I took up flying to cure my fear of flying. I do still fly over to Tooradin from time to time to meet up with my Mum who lives near the airport. Admin, it was the same user name, i could not log in so I created a new profile using the same username as before.....
  23. Hi folks, I have just landed again, due to my profile disappearing. I own and fly a Jabiru J160 and live in north west suburbs of Melbourne. Have been flying for nearly three years and learnt to fly in the friendly crosswinds at Tooradin Vic.
  24. Jabiru owner and rec pilot
