  1. I examined the cockpit at Bankstown. It was a two bob coin that did the trick. Check your pockets, boys and girls!
  2. The Giles in my hangar had a composite monocoque fuselage.
  3. I like the Zvesda SKS-94 escape system. Weighing 18kg, it is far from inexpensive, but, it will get you out quickly and at low level. Designed for the job and fitted to some Sukhoi radial engined aerobatic aircraft.
  4. Poor bugger might have been over-flying it. Even these new super planes have limits.
  5. To realise how silly we are, in being USA's lap dog, consider: 1) Australia vs Japan 2) Australia vs Indonesia. USA claims to have all three countries as it's allies. Therefore, why would USA defend us against another of it's allies? So many possibilities, such as: We are under attack. In desperation, we accept China's offer to base modern fighters and missile defences on our soil, while USA is paralysed with indecision. Post conflict, we feel secure in our new military alliance with our new best buddy....China. Best buddies aren't needed if a nation accepts the cost of being ever vigilant and prepared. We could easily build all our defense equipment 'in house' but the bulk of our population and political class do not accept the premise of being strong and independent in our defense thinking and planning. We could build a much better aircraft than the F35. Even building a copy/update F111 airframe as a fast, long legged and high flying munitions truck would be pretty useful and survivable. High and fast tends to defeat stealth. Maybe licence build a chosen Sukhoi model. Surely we could design and build a tough battlefield aircraft, in the A10 mold. Too expensive? Nah. No more costly than what we are proposing to waste on the mission incapable F35.

  7. Lots of military initial and pitch mixing it with civvy rectangles and RPT straight ins at Forest Hill recently. Excellent sport! OCTA

  9. Strict Liability is a disgrace. For those who don't know, it means you can't go to court with a view to getting a better result or being found "not guilty". You ARE guilty because they say you are. You WILL be fined the prescribed penalty units, or gaoled, no "if"s or "but"s. And good luck appealing to the Kangaroo Court, er, Administrative Appeals tribunal.

  11. When the main wheels touch the stick will be well back ( I trust). So.....FREEZE!!! Do nothing. It will roll along and lower the nose wheel all by itself.....when it is good and ready.

  13. Huh? The top of a stall turn is flown at about zero angle of attack if you do it properly, as opposed to "air show style". In fact, you are as far away from a stall as it is possible to be, during the yaw at the top.

  15. Good on you for putting this up, johncarlo. Something is very wrong/lacking with your theory knowledge and training, because your actions, as described, were ridiculous! The concern for you is that this harmless incident is likely symptomatic of something deeper. Happily, it is just a matter of discovery and correction. It might pay to do some dual with a different instructor at a different school. A fresh pair of eyes on your flying would likely be of real benefit. We are all more prone to having a bingle if our theory knowledge is weak/superficial. It couldn't hurt to download something like the FAA Airplane Flying Handbook. Reading this in your spare time would help to deepen your knowledge of flying, generally. Best of luck. Fred
  16. Ha ha LOL. So funny. Well done, NIbja380. Best wind up this week!
  17. This aircraft is not of the E2, J2, J3 or PA18 blood line, in any way, David. We are talking about something with round spar, ultralight type wings, that is superficially styled to look a bit like a traditional Cub.
  18. 85kts @ 4800 rpm with GT prop. Taken from my photo which also shows 4,500 AMSL with nil climb/descend and hands off stick. One up, 80 litre fuel load. I would post photo but this site can't handle the data.
  19. Our experience with the Bravo and other Tecnams, is that the GT Tonini wooden prop, kills both cruise and take-off performance. Three composite blades, with in flight pitch control, makes for a frightening improvement. Frightening? Well....when you have to tell the handling pilot to slow down for structural reasons.....
  20. I ferried this aircraft "Athol" via Blackall to Wagga for it's new owner on 9th July. Bad luck, fellas.
  21. And for some all-aussie context, lets go to Forest Hill RAAF Base, Wagga. The year is 1953. A local private pilot takes off in one of Eric Condon's Tigers. At about two hundred feet on climb out, without warning, a tremendous impact. The wings dissolve and the fuselage is savagely slashed, right behind the pilot's seat! Tiger and pilot plunge to earth. He has been taken out by a flight of Hawker Sea Furies that are supposed to be transiting from Uranquinty to Nowra, at altitude. The flight leader decided on an impromptu beat up of Forest Hill. It cost him his life. His Sea Fury bellied in near the Murrumbidgee but he had been fatally wounded in the impact with the Tiger. Meanwhile, the club pilot, somewhat bloodied, dragged himself from the wreckage and was soon back in the air.
  22. I agree. For the record, not a "one off". An A6 Intruder butted heads with a fully loaded Ag-Cat. Grumman vs Grumman. A6 crew punched out and the jet cratered. The ag pilot rode her down........and survived !! ...pretty sore, though.
  23. "Fit and Proper" is a star chamber concept used by CASA against selected enemies and victims. "Bringing RAAus into disrepute" is the similar concept RAAus Managers have used against enemies, recalcitrants and victims.
  24. Odds are that this impost is about RAAus running off the rails to become a Registered Training Organisation. Prepare for increased compliance BS. Prepare to open the wallet. Prepare for less emphasis on core aviation knowledge and skill but more emphasis on wearing the fluro vest. Why? Because ground based, over-paid, aviation hating, Cert. iv compliant "trainers" will be telling us how to suck eggs. Welcome to the RAAus 2020 "VISION".
