  1. They now install Isuzu V6's and Chevrolet (I think) V8's .
  2. I'm sure there are lots of people operating them outside the manufacturers recommendations, I was simply pointing out the terms of that particular recommendation.
  3. Actually the temperature in Austria varies enormously over the year (I lived there for 3 years). It can be -20C in the depths of winter and +45C in the height of summer. Maybe the Austrians just make their stuff tougher because of the extreme temperature swing ?
  4. Still needs an external air source, the Polarn works the same way but has the airr pump built in. .
  5. But I think the question is, "Is it obligatory or recommended ?"
  6. Boingk, you need specialist equipment fitted to the aircraft (sprung hook and cable release) so for a one-off, it would be complicated and expensive. In France we do loads of banner towing in the summer and there are plenty of training courses for it. You can tow with a microlight, there are people using skyrangers and savannahs to do it. If you have good short takeoff performance, then you don't need to do the aerial pickup manoeuvre which is difficult and not without it's dangers. What most here do is the following: Position the aircraft at the threshold of a private strip and shut down. Attach the rope to the hook and lay the rope and banner out in front of and to the left of the aircraft. Climb in, start up and repeat engine checks etc. Perform a short field takeoff, get airborne before the banner starts to lift. Climb at Vx until the banner starts to drag. Level off to slower angle of climb with the banner. The rope is normally about 100m long, so you can go almost 200m before the banner starts to lift. With the right aircraft it's fairly straightforward, but needs some planning and preparation. Hope that helps. .
  7. So an Australian company produces an aircraft for sale in Australia which must not be operated in temperatures above 38C ?? .
  8. I used to be apathetic, but nowadays I can't be bothered. Can I join RA-Aus ?? .
  9. That's not a realistic definition of a TBO though, is it ? Surely the TBO for any engine should be the number of hours at which a highish percentage are still running correctly (say 80%) not a time that only a minority get to. I know that in reality the TBO is "recommended" by the manufacturer, so in fact it's no more than an educated guess...... .
  10. So Mr Thobaven, It would appear that a refusal to provide a board member with the details of the insurance cover which apply to him or her, is based upon a prior assumption that the board member will make public that information. Unless there is some hard evidence to suggest that the board member will actually do that, then any refusal seems to be unfounded. .
  11. I wonder how long the FAA will allow them to operate to ETOPS-330 if those sort of incidents continue ? .
  12. "Disclosure of material that could be used to harm RA-Aus is never advisable" That amounts to a tacit admission that there is indeed something in the documents Jim's requesting that could do harm to those running RA-Aus ???
  13. And Mr Runciman is still signing himself as President........ .
  14. Does that mean that you are prepared to judge a whole sport by the statements of one or two of it's participants ? Personally, I love the idea of gyros and will be cross-training this year to add them to my licence. .
  15. And there's an article on it in this weeks Flyer newsletter. http://www.flyer.co.uk/aviation-news/newsfeed.php?artnum=1397
  16. Is it only me who finds it unbelievable that the RAA does not know the exact number of financial members ????
  17. So could you theoretically fit a turbine or even one or more mini-jets ?
  18. Russ, one other question, what are the engine limitations for gyros in Oz ? .
  19. Not really Nev, we were talking about autogyros which, as you know, are held up by magic, just like the fabled bumble-bee.
  20. Hi bones, thanks very much for SHOUTING your reply, heard the words so much more clearly that time. As you might notice, I am not in RAA yet (check my location) I also am ignorant of the driver licencing medical requirements in Australia. So, when I saw "heavy transport" I thought it meant air transport.
  21. Do you mean they need a class 1 medical ?? If so, that's a bit OTT.......
  22. My suggestion to get a notarised copy sworn on oath is to avoid the basic defense that a print-out of an email could have been altered. That removes one possible hurdle.
  23. It seems to me that the answers given to the first few questions may help those members present to decide on resolutions they may wish to propose later in the meeting
  24. Pete, would it not be prudent to first ask the board to confirm or deny the sequence of events which led to the situation ? 1. Did SR send an email resigning as President ? 2. Did SR send an emal resigning as Nth QLD representative. ? 3. If 2 is correct, then why did (certain members of?) the board feel they had the authority to reinstate a regional representative who had resigned, without reference to the electors of Nth QLD ? If it is clear to the board members that they risk a vote of no confidence by sticking to the story without accepting that they may have breached the constitution and/or overstepped their authority, they may break ranks and leave certain members to sink or swim on their own...... The other question which occurs to me is what efforts have been made to communicate the situation to the RAA members of Nth QLD who may not be aware that they no longer have an elected representative omn the board ? Maybe if more of them were aware they might get the pitchforks and torches out themselves. P.S. If one of those who recieved the original email was courageous enough to print it out and go swear on oath that it is a true and unedited copy of the original, they could do the members a great service and also effectively nullify the first two questions above.
