  1. 582 tbo I have heard of many people getting more hours than the 300 out of them. However a few guys I know run a Drifter No1 engine blew up at 330 hours no2 engine blew up at 350 hrs.To me if the makers say a rebuild or replacement at a certain time then that is what happens (remember its a syndicate aircraft) As regards BMW motors bieng no good then we will just wait and see. Dave
  2. Xair Costs Hi Guys I bought a 1/6 share in an Xair did some training in it then about 50 hrs.Great aircraft stol good manners not too fast though. The killer with the two stroke is the three hundred hour TBO $7000 for a new donk (still use old radiators etc) ouch we are putting a BMW motor in it should make it much more usable better range maybe a touch faster. Cheers Dave
  3. Just be advised Darky that Pommies love rules and regulations and that there is allways someone with a peaked hat whose job it is to say No (unless you are related to the royal family) Dave

  5. My VSI reads 200 fpm descent when it is level (ie even taxi ing along level ground) I find this annoying is this fixable or do I need a new one. Its a bit of a major job to get it out of the dashboard. Dave
  6. Savannah Not ugly Rachel functional and practical Dave
  7. Minimun Trikes Give Andrew Buchan a call at Sywell airfield. You may get a better price as a personal import.Or at these prices it would be cheaper to go over and buy one. Dave
  8. I am looking to do a two day PMI course.Have enquired on the internet but so far no one offers the course on its own only as a component part of a much larger sylabus (which i do not want)Any advice/pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks Dave
  9. GPs Thanks Nev had come to that conclusion and am looking closely at the Garmin 500. dave
  10. I am thinking of upgrading my GPS.I like the look of the lowrance and am reliably informed that they are easy to operate.Am ringing around to check price and availability.Any comments would be appreciated. Dave
  11. Savannah Hi Rachel Which one did you buy ? let me know how you get on send a picture. David F from cessnock 4178:clap: Good choice
  12. Allegro Dont like to say it but I wouldnt touch one with a barge pole.Keep looking buy something that will make you happy. Dave
  13. Welding Chrome Moly Tube Shouldnt it really be welded with oxy acetylene ? 3150 deg c with a fairly slow weld progress campared to a TIG (much hotter at 6000 + much quicker) Wider throat thickness and post weld heat treatment (due to slower weld progress ) reduces the risc of cracking. What do you recon guys ? Dave
  14. He certainley did very well.I was not able to go to Red Bull but I eagerly bought a news paper this morning to read about it. A daily Telegraph , but not a word just the usual 45 pages about various rugby league players not doing the right thing costing too much etc who had a sore toe got drunk etc. I think that our gutter press ought to wake up to themselves and realise that there is more to life than chasing a spherical object around a paddock or beating someone to a pulp in a canvas lined ring. Give credit where its due. Dave
  15. Savannah Not the most attractive aircraft around but you cant see it while you are flying.Have a go in everything you can before you commit. Dave
  16. Savannah Hi Rob I am based at Cessnock and have a VG you are welcome to have a look. Not sure what I am doing over the Anzac weekend may be going out to Middlebrook Station with the Scone mob.My advice would be to definately have a go in one before you commit to a plastic parrot ( I am not a jab fan ) I was going to buy a Gazelle but then had afly in a Savannah at Narromine four years ago liked it and bought one. Handling is very similar to a Gazelle they have more room 100 horses and 150 litre fuel gets along at 85 kt and gets in or out of anywhere. Also they seem to be holding their value well. Good luck Dave
  17. Accesories Thanks heaps I will be ordering a new door latch kit as well. Dave
  18. I am going to natfly but I dont plan on having a drink untill its dark then I cant fly anyway as it is dark and we can only fly VFR .So I cant be breaking the rules if I am camping airside with the keys in my pocket throttle lock on to prevent the Temora Alkieda from stealing my pride and joy and maybe crashing it into a silo between here and there.(seems to be getting a bit silly) Dave
  19. I have noticed that the fuel tank filler caps do not seal properly and can leak when it is rough weather.I read somewhere in a thread that the standard rubber was too thin and that someone had replaced them. What type and thickness of rubber should I use for this? Any help much appreciated. Dave
  20. Rego Stickers I recon that CASA is throwing its weight around and that the RAA head office guys are the meat in the sandwich. They must be seen to be managing the problem effectively hence the directive. If we get a new fat controller at CASA the situation will change. Just my 2 bobs worth Dave
  21. Rego Sticker I dont really care but are they going to send me the certificate holder or do I have to send off for it? Are we going to get bounced if we dont have one for not complying with an an ? Dave
  22. getting older My mate Steve sent me one He said you know when you are getting older I was watching a porno last night and thought gee that bed looks comfortable.
  23. Savannah Hi Milton I have a Savannah a 100 hp vg model I have done around 150 hours in it and am very happy with my choice. They are easy to fly cruise is not fast at 85 kt but if you get the long range tanks you can go all day and then some. You can get in and out of any strip They have one of the best payloads around with an empty weight of around 275 kg that gives 269 kg . You can fit a decent amount of camping gear on the back shelf. And they have proper wheel bearings decent tyres etc and a Rotax motor !!! To conclude a nice capable aircraft at a reasonable price plus good spare parts back up from Cam in Brisbane. Dave
  24. Hi Maj You have to keep an eye on these minority religious groups the next thing will be no flying on a Saturday. However they are extremely well organized ,well funded and very well connected. If you had asked around Cooranbong five to ten years ago will they subdivide the airfield and sell off the flying school the answer would have been a resounding No. Most people think that it is just the housing but if you delve into it the zoning allows for a hospital or other health based business. This is not widely known even in the local SDA community (Those who lost jobs with the flying school were SDA) So in years to come I would expect to see medium density housing, nursing homes, and maybe a training hospital all of which will generate a tidy (tax free ) income stream for what is supposed to be a not for profit organization. Dave
  25. Cooranbong Airfield Yes you should check the status of all the airfields en route. However the money hungry B******ds that own the strip did not need to put tank traps along both runways and even the taxiways. Its been closed three years now and they have done nothing got caught out by the GFC and falling land values. They could put a housing estate anywhere but no they had to close the airfield (sore point I live 1 k from it) Dave
